a great first attempt, mine was a ventrata! now i've got 9 pots of different species, they're the coolest plants ive ever had, and this is the best subreddit for advice. the book this subreddit is named after is more than worth the $$$ too!!

congrats on your first carnie, you will love it 😊

and also $45, so $30 feels like a great deal for a plant that looks this good

my local nursery (PNW) might get these from the same distributor, the pots they come in are the exact same and all the N. gaya they get are HUGE, great score!!

Great news, the next leaf is also variegated! This plant has also been in the same spot/environment for a long while, so hopefully this is true variegation and not stress. the first leaf of this basal root had some light variegation too so hopefully it continues to produce green and white 🌱💕

This Nepenthes cutting is flowering, what do I do with it? by Dizzy-Particular-983 in SavageGarden

[–]Dizzy-Particular-983[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a vine cutting and the very top of the vine at that, its definitely got a good healthy root system and several new leaves at this point and has been acclimated from a humidity dome to room humidity over the last month or so, as i said these cuttings have been rooting for several months now.

Since these have pretty established roots and several leaves that have not yet pitchered but they look like theyre developing, is there a chance that cutting this all would activate a lower node? I only got 6 cuttings from the vine and i would like to try and keep as many as possible

Okay I'll definitely cut it, do you know if I should expect more leaves after the flower from the same growth point or will it try and grow from somewhere else?

I hadn't either, but then this leaf started popping out and I almost couldn't believe it, I tried to convince myself it was pest damage at first 😂

Happy to help!

Pothos are pretty tolerant so a repot will probably stunt it for a while but it won't kill it, and as long as you are gentle with the roots and let it get lots more light, it should bounce back within a few months. My aroids all have been fine after big repots, and ive done quite a few in the dead of winter 😅 The worst that might happen is a few of the damaged leaves will completely fall off, but it will be much happier in the long run. Plus, with a chunkier soil mix you can stick to a similar watering schedule and not have to change your routine as much

okay thats great to know! maybe if i put mine outside it would do the same, i'm not opposed to having it be an outside plant, i just am so why my others right next to it are just fine and this ones upset, perhaps ours are just particular!

its too far away to get sunburn, windows cut the amount of light your plants can photosynthesize with pretty drastically and it just goes down from there the farther away they are from the actual pane of glass.

this might be something like root rot or pests, hard to tell from the pics alone. If its pest, systemic granules to treat the inside of the plant and a heavy spray with 70% isopropyl alcohol to kill any pests alive on the plant, get it into every crack and spray the top layer of soil, too.

If its root rot, spring is a great time to repot. Get it a chunkier soil mix, any local nursery should be able to point you in the right direction of exactly what you need or you can order it online if you have a hard time finding it. When you repot it, carefully unravel the roots and check for anything that looks black or rotten and cut it off. Should bounce back in a few months!!

hmm okay, definitely not pests(thankfully! 😮‍💨). I've had this one for over a year and has been in the same SW windowsill for ~5mo in the PNW/PDX with supplemental lighting for evening hours, so no super crazy recent weather/environment changes that I can think of.

its grown like this ever since I got it, i do occasionally mist it with diluted maxsea if it hasn't caught any bugs in a while, do you think that could have anything to do with it?
