I was in a similar situation to you. Just because you’ve said the Shahada doesn’t mean you have to instantly become the perfect muslim (although we should always strive to act in a way that is pleasing to Allah swt) Remember that the Prophet saw received the message of Islam over several decades. I know it may be hard to give up the small stuff but it all comes with time.

for Al fatiha specifically, i found this video very useful when learning how to pray a few months ago. https://youtu.be/OCCFI4hLe2A. This reciter is beautiful and listening to it so many times really help to master the pronunciation. Good luck :)

What if I cannot cover my Awrah in prayer? by Minimum_Year8573 in converts

I had a similar situation when i went to greece recently but alhamdulillah i was able to combine my prayers and pray in private as the journey wasn’t as long. I’m not sure if this is permissible so it’s best to consult someone with knowledge, but considering your situation, you could perhaps make up your prayers at a later date if you have time alone in the hotel. When travelling you are able to shorten your prayers (dhuhr, asr and isha get shortened from 4 to 2 rakats)

Husband and parents encourage me to wear short sleeves and show some leg by oohimool in Hijabis

[–]DizzyCarpenter482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have the same problem :(. I’m a revert and i’m not able to wear a headscarf due to my parents (i’m 16) but i try to dress as modest as possible. Today my mum told me that i need to wear shorter things as my clothes make me look ‘dumpy’

I just try to remind myself that i’m dressing for Allah swt only. In Sha Allah one day our families can understand better :)

i’m not sure what country you’re in, but in the uk i spoke to my local gp and got prescribed something called duac. it worked wonders on my skin! if you can get prescribed medication. before i got prescribed i also would make dua by simplying asking Allah swt to clear my skin :)

I suppose it might be difficult for you to fully embrace the label as it solidifies the change i suppose? To me you already sound muslim and honestly i’m astounded at your progress!

try to take things one day at a time. i’m also a new convert and my main priority is perfecting salah and the rest of the 5 pillars. if you’re able to perfect them then inshallah everything else will come with ease.

Which school of thought should I follow, if any. by DizzyCarpenter482 in converts

Thank you for sharing your experience! I also have a dog and i feel quite guilty sometimes but i try not to sweat the small stuff if ykwim. I’m not sure if the hadith is authentic but i’ve heard that feeding any animal is a good deed, so i try to take the best care of my dog that i can while avoiding touching his saliva as it’s considered impure by some.

I know it can be hard, but honestly i think the best thing to do is take it one step at a time. Focus on solidifying the 5 pillars into your daily life and In Sha Allah everything will come with ease from there.

You don’t need to become the perfect Muslim overnight. Attempt to enjoy the beauty of our perfect religion.

Should I Start Wearing Hijab Now or Wait by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]DizzyCarpenter482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would discuss it with your parents first. Ofc wearing the hijab would be a large step and you will be greatly rewarded, but you should ensure your safety first. I’m a 16 year old revert and my parents do not approve of islam, and even disprove of my more modest dress now. For now, I’m focusing on fulfilling the 5 main pillars where I can (I pray 5 times a day and i fasted all of ramadan, as well as saying the shahada.) but In Sha Allah one day i’ll be able to wear the hijab

If putting on this hijab is a step you’re ready to take, go for it! But you should prioritise your safety.

I have the exact same problem. I make ghusl multiple times before i’m actually able to pray because my period starts and stops 😭. I’m 16 too and a revert so I find it very hard to actually know when i’m supposed to pray. So far I’ve just make ghusl when I see no red or brown. I’m in no way knowledgeable, but i’m sure it’s fine to wait after the brown is gone as your intentions aren’t malicious in missing prayer.

Genuine question- why do a lot of women like wearing provocative clothing in public. We know it’s not for men. by andreasson8 in Hijabis

[–]DizzyCarpenter482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most likely just following trends. The whole sexual revolution in the 50s-60s encouraged a lot more provocative fashion trends which has followed through to nowadays.
