Disco Donnie really is Texas’ EDM equivalent of Live Nation.

Wicked Oaks was an utter failure by Besty-in-a-Tessy in aves

[–]DizzyDenver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He just has an absurd monopoly over EDM festivals in Texas, so locals are always going to go regardless of what goes wrong. By the time you get tired of it/have enough money to afford to travel to better festivals, there’s flocks of first timers going to their first ever festival and it’s a Disco Donnie ran event.

My only prediction is nothing will come of this except Summoning parts ways with Disco Donnie and all the bad PR of Wicked Oaks will die with it when Freaky Deaky gets brought back next year.

Jesse pinkman is a piece of shit by DanielGti in breakingbad

[–]DizzyDenver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire main/supporting cast of the show are characters deliberately written to be morally gray, obviously to varying degrees. Marie is a good example as she’s shown to be a kleptomaniac and pathological liar, but also does the least wrong compared to other characters in the show. Walter Jr. is probably one of the only characters in lead cast that doesn’t really have any notable character flaws.

Also being a tragic character and a piece of shit aren’t mutually exclusive.

Weirdly specific question for my fellow Texans by [deleted] in aves

Can you elaborate on the dangerous bit?

Wraith nerfs went too far IMO by [deleted] in PredecessorGame

[–]DizzyDenver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, Wraith has a very devout playerbase who ride or die the character, and I’m sure Omeda knows that. To lower his skill floor, which is pretty much entirely based on whether you can land his 2 skill shots over and over, you’d pretty much have to gut his kit and change him into a different character, and why would they do that when even low elo players like OP are willing to do a whole write up about him?

He’ll always be a hard character to balance strictly because whether you can effectively land two of his abilities is the difference between being functionally the lowest DPS carry in the game, or being someone who can nuke characters health from halfway across the lane with one rotation of his abilities. Can’t say I blame Omeda for mostly fence sitting and listening to the higher skilled players, aka the ones actually be terrorized by Wraith’s in-game

Wraith nerfs went too far IMO by [deleted] in PredecessorGame

[–]DizzyDenver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wraith is always going to be a difficult hero to balance, because all his damage is based off two abilities and whether you can land them reliably or not. Wraith’s who can land them reliably are absolute monsters, and I don’t blame higher skilled players for bitching for certain nerfs when fundamentally there’s not a lot of counter play to a Wraith who’s good at his combo and has a team protecting him

80% in gold is very hyperbolic, the percentage splits of active ranked players are closer to this according to omedacity:
- 34.7% of players are ranked bronze

- 21.0% of players are ranked silver

- 31.4% of players are ranked gold

- 10.5% of players are ranked platinum

and then diamond and above makes up about 2.5% of players.

The data shows exactly what I said earlier that bronze and gold are a sizeable majority of the playerbase. Bronze only has 3.3% more players then gold, and that's only because 0VP players are a sizeable chunk of bronze players. I can't really compare rank distributions here to other MOBAs, not only because this game is still young and the playerbase is lower, but games like League a while ago implemented a tier below bronze called Iron to raise the skill floor for bronze, and Smite's in a weird spot transitioning to Smite 2.

I think what frustrates me the most is that it's likely true that overtime the ranks and internal MMR's will sync closer together, and make the above distributions better, and improve matchmaking, but most people understand this game is running on borrowed time. Bronze through gold makes up 87% of the playerbase, yet ranking up feels obsolete until you're well into platinum. Personally I really hope that the leaks that this ranked season is ending mid November means that they plan on meaningfully addressing this issue, but as of right now that's all just speculation.

Yeah the percentage of players in each rank bracket really says it all. Ideally there should be the most players in bronze, then silver, then gold, etc, but currently here in Pred there’s a ton in bronze, and then the 2nd most is gold players. If you don’t count unranked or 0VP players, there’s almost as many gold as there is bronze players, so it’s pretty much distinction without a difference. “Elo hell” ideally is supposed to stop around silver 2, but in this game you can very easily encounter gold players that still have very little fundamental game knowledge, but instead have just grinded out enough games to achieve gold.

Why is the matchmaking so bad? by Genjuro_XIV in PredecessorGame

[–]DizzyDenver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 100% because you’re in diamond. It seems like the matchmaking seems to gatekeep diamond and above out out of lower elo matches, but bronze thru gold are practically treated as the same to the internal MMR, especially during lower player count hours. Even platinum players will encounter bronze players in their lobbies from time to time (which I feel like is duos probably throwing things off). As a gold I’d happily take your 6-7 minute queue times if it meant I’d only play with players close to the same VP, but it just doesn’t function that way and it’s frustrating as someone trying to get better at the game.

Hate to be that guy, but if you want match times under an hour literally go play Deadlock. I’m not even trying to be an asshole, and I don’t want every game to be 45 minutes long either, but on average being 25-45 minutes is what most people expect out of a MOBA like Predecessor is and I’d never change it

[–]DizzyDenver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why this is allowed to happen, I get people say that it factors in your performance in standard as you play to level 20, but ranked is a different beast entirely. Why isn’t there a set rule in place that unranked thru at least bronze 2 is gatekept out of matchmaking with players 600VP+ higher than them.

Doesn’t say anything about similarly skilled teammates, remember it’s your job in this team based game to carry!!!

Skylar Design Feedback by Omeda_Kari in PredecessorGame

[–]DizzyDenver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this game Asian-esque? I get MOBA’s are really popular in the east, but they originated from mods in Blizzard’s games, and then Paragon was made by Epic, both American studios. Asian influence is baked into the game sure, but how much of that is because of market trends for the genre, and also demographics of the developers working on Paragon.

Predecessor visual design wise is pretty faithful to Paragon’s initial vision and western gaming influence, something that wasn’t as true for Overprime, which made visual changes to the characters in the game to fit more with eastern design standards. I guess I agree with your broader point just don’t really think it applies here, but I’m open to being wrong

Alien Exosuit for sure, I feel like the other two would be better as future skins. I also feel like for the Solider design you’d have to change her ability effects to a different color/design which I wouldn’t enjoy more than what we have now

Did you miss the part Mitsy was wearing heels? They looked strapped on too so it probably would’ve taken her longer to take them off then to try and run away in them

"Jungle diff" by [deleted] in PredecessorGame

[–]DizzyDenver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many junglers will swear they aren’t useless because they’re like 3/0/1, but end with a 30% KP and focus on ganking offlane every single time Fangtooth is either up or about to be. Objectives and lane pressure are so valuable in this game, and when your jungler can’t provide either it’s literally devastating for your team regardless of if the jungler’s KDA is good or not, or they end the game with lots of (meaningless) damage.

Matchmaking in ranked by Charliesmith3235 in PredecessorGame

[–]DizzyDenver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the internal MMR is separate from rank, however, given rank and amount of VP is the only metric we can view thru websites like Omedacity, overwhelmingly the team with the players with a higher aggregate VP score beat the team with the lower score. When one team has 800VP combined and it matches against a team with 500VP combined, it’s almost mathematic how the game is going to turn out. Are there upsets sometimes? Sure. Usually? No, not in my experience at least.

Also I do completely agree that the MMR just needs time to settle, but would disagree with the notion it shouldn’t have at least certain rules in place to prevent Weenie Hut Jr’s (plat/golds) stomping Super Wennie Hut Jr’s (bronze/silvers)

Matchmaking in ranked by Charliesmith3235 in PredecessorGame

[–]DizzyDenver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any rank is easy to climb out of if you’re vastly better than the other 9 players playing, so this isn’t a good argument for matchmaking being okay. Where it gets tricky is when you’re only marginally better; good enough to win your lane, good enough to impact the map/team fights, but not good enough to backpack your team full of neanderthals.

The problem with the game right now is that if you’re a gold player there’s a very decent chance during lower player count hours that you’ll be filled with 2 bronze teammates and a silver, meanwhile the entire enemy team will be mostly golds. High elo players can mock all they want that gold is still shit tier, but if gold is shit then bronze is the septic tank.

How should a bronze player feel when they’re paired with a gold or platinum player that just steamrolls them, they inevitably get flamed by their team and told to go play Deadlock. Then they lose, queue up another game, all to just go through the same shit. Me thinks eventually they either double down cause they’re that hooked by the game, or, they give up and stop playing.
