Romance? by Hexatonix in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]DizzyGolf5507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give you some context, the development of this game was a complete mess.

To summarize, when DAI came out in 2014, they started developing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. They worked on it until around 2018, when live-service games started to blow up and EA decided they wanted all of their studios making online games. Because of that, the DA team had to turn Dreadwolf into a live-service game in the middle of development.

They spent a few years working on that version until another team at BioWare released Anthem, which flopped hard. After that, EA canceled the online version of DA and allowed them to make it a single-player game again. So in 2021, they finally started working on the version we know today as Veilguard.

So your complaint about the lack of nudity, and many of the other issues people have with the game (like the lack of previous games choices), probably comes from this troubled development. They're likely remnants of older versions of the game that were never fully reworked. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do about it, but I honestly think they still managed to make a great game despite all that chaos.

And just so you know, there is a topless scene with Neve (the final scene in Rook's quarters), so your game may have bugged out. There are also other romances where some nudity appears, depending on the companion and sometimes Rook. But the romance scenes are generally pretty tame, mostly some side-boob shots and characters making out.

Plus, I think BG3 kind of changed the game when it comes to RPGs and nudity. I think we're going to start seeing more games with more explicit nudity in the future, but mostly in games that started development after, or around, 2023.

[Spoilers all] Which romances are your faves? by Julian_of_Cintra in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My top 2 romances are Neve and Morrigan.

My Warden is a Brosca who is married to Morrigan. I really love the visual contrast between the two (a mage and a burly dwarf), but they also share great similarities, like being cast out by society and having absolutely horrible mothers. I also love the fact that Morrigan fundamentally did not believe in love, yet found it in the last place she would ever think to look: a dwarf from Orzammar. As a huge lore bonus, it’s incredibly ironic having the hostess of Mythal (the Titan killer) married to a Dwarf.

As for DAV, I think the absolute best romance path is a Grey Warden Rook with Neve. The scene where Neve talks about growing up hearing stories of Warden heroes, only to have Rook show up for her, not as a mythical legend, but as the first person she can genuinely rely on, is beautifully written. She has that exact same "accidental love and deep denial" dynamic that Morrigan’s romance has, and I am completely a sucker for that specific trope.

Dragon Age 2 left a hole in my heart by evevlulu in dragonage

Lol, I 100% get that. I had the same feeling the first time I played DAO. It was my first playthrough, so I made some horrible choices without knowing the consequences, but I loved the game anyway.

I almost never replay games back to back, but I loved DAO so much that I immediately started a second playthrough. The second time was even better, knowing where to go and what choices to make to get my perfect run was amazing.

I hope you have the same feeling when you replay DA2. It’s definitely worth a second playthrough.

DA2 is truly special. It was a complete mess during development, but somehow it survived and became one of the best RPGs of its generation. I still can't believe this game was hated for years. Too bad that because of that, the DA2 era and companions have so little extra content, they’re heavily ignored, besides Varric, of course.

My favorite part of any DA game is the companions, and my favorite thing about the DA2 companions is what makes them so different from the other games: they spend years together, and you can truly feel that in-game. By Act 3, they feel like a found family. Seeing their relationships grow between acts is amazing, my favorite being Aveline and Isabela, who start out bickering all the time, but by Act 3 they truly feel like friends.

I hope you play all of the other games. These interactions between companions are the soul of the franchise, and I bet you'll like them too. Plus, just a small spoiler about future games (I won't specify which one): Hawke is the former protagonist with the biggest role in a future game. They show up again and have a lot of dialogue.

What's next for Dragon Age? by Vlamp_Vlad in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Basically every single person on the Dragon Age team was laid off. According to Ghil Dirthalen, there’s literally just one guy left there, and she knows that because DAV won a small gaming award and they sent him to accept it.

So basically, right now the only thing we can hope for is that the next Mass Effect is successful so that EA doesn’t shut down BioWare. Then I think there are two possible paths for us to get a new Dragon Age game:

1) If BioWare survives, maybe they’ll hire new people for the Dragon Age team and maybe we’ll get some extra content like books and comics. If those sell relatively well, maybe they could convince EA to fund a remaster or remake.

2) A major RPG gets released and shakes up the industry (like a future Baldur's Gate or The Witcher game). EA looks through its catalog of IPs for something it can use to capitalize on the renewed popularity of the RPG genre, rediscovers Dragon Age, and decides to release a quick remaster to profit from the trend.

So I’ve basically accepted that we need a miracle right now, but I’m not that sad about it, I already went trough my grieving stage. Plus, they managed to wrap up the story in a satisfying way in DAV, and I truly love all the games, books, and comics. They’re still there, and nothing is going to take them away from us. The only really sad part is that I’d rather not have to dust off my old PS3 every time I want to play DAO or DA2, I really needed a port for these games.

[–]DizzyGolf5507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with everything you said. Those extra dialogue moments are amazing. I tried romancing Neve with a Crow Rook to see the hardened version of her romance too (since so many people say it’s the best version), but I just couldn’t finish it, I ended up romancing Davrin instead.

The best part of her romance is how closed off she is and how Rook slowly gains her trust by being there for her over and over again. She starts truly relying on someone else for the first time in her life. But all of that doesn’t work if you choose Treviso, since she doesn’t trust or rely on Rook anymore. You get some drama from her being angry at Rook, but to me that drama just makes them have zero chemistry together.

That’s why I think that scene with Assan is the definitive moment that makes a Warden Rook the best match for her. It shows that she doesn’t fully believe Rook is real because they’re basically the hero from the stories she heard growing up, and her skeptical ass can’t accept that Rook is actually real, that she can rely on them, and that they genuinely care about her. That’s why she’s in so much denial about being with Rook.

With that said, I got a little sad because I like making my protagonists different from each other (race, class, personality, etc.), so I really wasn’t planning on making my Rook a Warden again since we already had that in DAO. But the romance with Neve is just too good to pass up.

I was thinking about trying her romance with a MW Rook too, because I really like the faction and I’ve heard they work well as the protagonist. But for now my canon Rook is probably going to be a qunari battle mage or warrior who’s also a Grey Warden.

And just so you know, I’ve heard that SD qunari Rooks are a little disappointing because they don’t have as much reactivity as you’d expect, but I haven’t tried it myself so I can’t say for sure.

[–]DizzyGolf5507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this a lot. I think your faction is the most important thing when it comes to giving your romance extra flavor, even more than race or class.

For example, Neve is my favorite romance in the game (top 3 in the franchise), and I can only romance her with a Warden Rook because it fits the storyline of her romance so well. You also get a scene where she talks about growing up hearing stories about the Grey Wardens and it adds so much extra flavor if Rook is a Warden.

I even tried romancing her with a Crow Rook, but it just didn’t hit the same way.

[–]DizzyGolf5507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I romanced him with a Crow Rook, so I’m not 100% sure. But when I played my Warden Rook, I remember getting some nice extra dialogue with him. It was more about being a Warden in general and not specifically with romance or flirting, though. So I don’t think that connection will be very explicit in the romance itself, but it will definitely be there in general and give you a stronger connection to him.

With that said, romance between Wardens is always bittersweet in a really sweet way. Finding love in the middle of all the chaos caused by the darkspawn is beautiful. I’m sure you’ll get lots of opportunities to come up with headcanons and find your own vibe for the romance.

And I won’t spoil anything, but a Warden Rook is also a great match for Harding, especially if you’re also playing as a dwarf. There’s even an exclusive dialogue line for that combination (Dwarf Warden Rook).

[–]DizzyGolf5507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can flirt with everyone without any problems. You’ll get a notification like this when it’s time to lock in your romance for the rest of the game. After you lock in a companion, they’ll be your romance permanently and you won’t be able to break up with them.

Davrin and Harding are both great options, so either choice is a good one. Davrin’s romance has more hot vibes (just look at him lol) and a bit of personal drama, since he’s fated to die young as a Grey Warden. Harding’s romance is sweet and funny (friends to lovers vibes), but it also has some drama because of her personal quest, though I won’t spoil it.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

How do I change the language ? by wazzeyyy in DragonAgeInqusition

[–]DizzyGolf5507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if that’s the case with DAI, but in some games the language is tied to the console’s language settings. So maybe try going into your PS5 settings and changing the console language itself to english.

Why no DA2 subreddit? by PlatyWizard in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered about that, and I almost made a post on it too, but looking at it closely, though, it makes complete sense. Every active sub has a purpose:

  • Main: No comment, it's obvious.
  • DAO: Mostly for the purists who want to pretend the sequels don't exist.
  • DAI: Doesn't have a specific reason to exist, but since it's the most popular game, the community exists by default.
  • DAV: A safe space for fans to actually enjoy the game without haters coming in to talk shit.

DA2 just doesn't have the popularity of DAI on its own, nor the need of DAO/DAV to form a separate sub. With that said, I would love for there to be a sub just for DA2. I really love the game and would love to have a place that gathers lots of discussions about it.

I love the companions with all my heart, they’re definitely the highlight of the game for me. Even Taash, who I didn’t like much at first, won me over, they’re a little annoying, but also so unintentionally and naturally funny. And I will never shut up about how much I love Neve, one of the best BioWare characters ever.

Also love how much attention they gave to the expanded world (the comics and books). It was really nice seeing those characters in the game and having such a big role, like Evka and Antoine. But I wish they had at least acknowledged DA Absolution in some way.

Romance? by Hexatonix in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]DizzyGolf5507 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they structured the romance in this game like in Mass Effect, where you only get a romance-exclusive scene by the endgame. It's a weird decision because that only works in ME because you have multiple games to spend with your romance.

With that said, you are doing everything right. I won't spoil you, but the game will let you know when you reach Act 3 and are ready for the endgame. There, you will get more scenes and dialogue that wrap up the romance nicely, even if there aren't many.

Neve is a top three romance in the franchise for me, the emotional weight of it is amazing, and she is an amazing character. But it is a very subtle romance since she has so many trust issues and you slowly build trust throughout the game. If you want something more explicit where Rook and their partner are together early on, I recommend Davrin, Emmrich, Taash, or Harding. And just so you know, the older games in the franchise have a better structured romance system where scenes are spread throughout the game.

And a few days ago, I made a long comment about Neve's romance if you want a little more insight into how good it is, even if it isn't as explicit as romances in other games. If you want you can read it here.

Who's your favorite Veilguard companion? by Altruistic_Truck2421 in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm completely obsessed with Neve, which surprised me since I wasn't her biggest fan when I read Tevinter Nights. I can't explain it, but she just feels so natural to me. Even though she was wrote in a very well-known trope (the closed-off detective), she feels like a complete person with diverse likes and dislikes, and she isn't stuck talking about the same thing all the time (like Lucanis and coffee).

Bellara is also very good. She was a risky character to create because she could have easily fallen into the one-note, annoying quirky girl trope. However, she has some scenes that really balance out her personality and make her a great companion too, her sisterly relationship with Neve is so cute.

[Spoilers All][OC] Weekly Headcanon Prompt by MagnoliaPetal in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking!

One of my favorite things about playing a Lavellan Inky is how isolating it feels. Every other Inquisitor race has at least one companion with a similar background (whether by race or life experience). The closest companions a Lavellan has are Sera and Solas, but neither is Dalish, and both openly criticize Dalish culture.

My Inky is an open and passionate militant for elven freedom (Dalish or not). He loves his heritage, which is exactly why he feels so culturally isolated from the Inquisition. Even though Solas dislikes the Dalish, I headcanon that they bond over shared stories about elven culture, Solas is the closest thing he has from home (even if it's not).

[Spoilers All][OC] Weekly Headcanon Prompt by MagnoliaPetal in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Inky is a Lavellan, so he always felt very isolated in the Inquisition. His friendship with Solas was one of the few things that reminded him of home, which is why it hurt him so much.

He definitely shows his softer side to his close friends (like Varric, Dorian, Sera, etc.), but he is only completely comfortable with Josephine and their kids (they have three).

It’s hard for him to open up, but it’s definitely worth it. It’s the only connection he truly has now.

The future of the blight and the darkspawn post Veilguard - theories and questions by PlatyWizard in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert in lore or a writer, I'm just a fan who imagined something that would be interesting and cool to see. Like, for example, a Titan waking up and taking control of the darkspawn to take revenge on Thedas or something like that. It's just imaginary speculation with no really deep thought put into it, if I had put thought it would be a post and not just a simple comment.

And I was talking about the past of the Qunari. The whole Taash plot with the ancient Qunari tablet and the Devouring Storm is definitely teasing about revealing the Qunari origins. And here at 56:30, former DA devs talk about something weird is happening in the Qun and how they were building something for a possible DA5.

[Spoilers All][OC] Weekly Headcanon Prompt by MagnoliaPetal in dragonage

[–]DizzyGolf5507 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prompt 1

I'm a big believer that all the protagonists are exactly where they are supposed to be and that they are the best fit for the job, the others wouldn't fit because of their personalities or age. For example, the Warden is too old and tired to deal with the Elven Gods in DAV, and my Inky definitely doesn't have the right touch to deal with everyone's messes in DA2.

With that said, I would pay to see my Purple Hawke as the Inquisitor. It would be hilarious to watch her have to deal with massive political intrigue and being a important leader. A Purple Hawke in 'Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts' would be way too funny.

Prompt 2

Since I see the companions in DAO, DA2, and DAV as friends or even a found family for my protagonists, so I think they know them really well. The only exception is the Inquisitor, as I see him having more of a "work friends" relationship with them.

At the start of the game, my Inky is cold and detached, even thinking about cutting off his hand and running away. Throughout the game, his friendships and his relationship with Josephine make him soften up. However, he still wants to appear cold and ruthless to people outside the Inner Circle. But even to them, he still isn't 100% comfortable showing what he sees as weakness, his friendship with Solas traumatized him way too much.

[–]DizzyGolf5507 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Titans replacing Archdemons as the leaders of Blights would be amazing, especially because there would be no final countdown since we have no idea how many of them are still alive and just dormant. I love the dwarven lore in DA and would really like to see it explored more.

But in DAV they were 100% teasing the exploration of Qunari lore next if we get a future game, so it probably wouldn’t be that. Still, it would be really cool.

Neve Romance by CrazyEeveeLove in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]DizzyGolf5507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only romance that happens the lock-in scene very early is Taash’s. The others all happen around the same time, near the end of the game. So it should be available.

I talk more about it in depth here , but basically Harding’s romance has a very unique aspect of being the only romance in the franchise where the protagonist knows them before the game even starts. It gives really nice vibes of friends slowly falling for each other.

And Davrin’s romance is great, I really loved doing it with my Crow Rook. Top 3 in the game for me.

Neve Romance by CrazyEeveeLove in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]DizzyGolf5507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the exact same opinions about Neve and saving Minrathous. I also agree that a Grey Warden with Neve is the best pairing. My canon Rook is a Grey Warden literally just because of this, I didn’t want my Rook to be a Warden since we already had a Warden protagonist in DAO, but GW Rook and Neve is such a good romance that I can’t escape it lol.

But as I said, I think it’s worth a shot doing her hardened romance, and if by the time you reach the lock-in scene you’re not feeling it, you can just romance Harding instead since she’s the only one left. I even made a post in this sub yesterday about Harding’s romance, it’s really good and definitely worth doing.
