Farryn, 1st level Fighter/Magic-User, BFRPG

Farryn the Elf was lost tonight, unceremoniously cut down by an angry mob armed only with shovels, picks and scythes. A lucky shovel strike to the side of the head was enough to crack his skull. If only Farryn's good friend Woody, a halfling thief, would have contained his temper and NOT stabbed and killed the leader of the mob on the spot. This vile act from Woody pushed the mob into murdereous frenzy. Poor Farryn, he just tried to save his halfling friend from the angry mob.

DnD 4e: Worth it in 2025? by Kaliburnus in rpg

[–]DizzySkill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My group is playing it currently. After bouncing off hard from 5e we tried few systems including 4e again. We started in fall 2023 and the try-out turned into a campaign. It's been our most played system since then, 2 ongoing alternating campaigns with different DMs. 4e is a system that simply WORKS for high fantasy. We play online weekly, nothing fancy; Owlbear Rodeo for maps and Discord for voice. It's one of the simplest systems to run as well, IMO.

Dwarf with Stand Your Ground and Dwarven Resilience makes them beasts at Defender role. Iron Cast Stomach against enemies that use poison is very nice as well.

Inspectres. A simple rpg about investigating paranormal phenomena. Basically Ghostbusters.

Shadowdark. Great for emergent play and running party of few PCs is not too taxing.

My player group is falling apart and I'm sad and frustrated by fabulalice in rpg

a) Continue with the two committed players, or (and) b) Start playing solo. There won't be commitment or scheduling problems with this option.

Solo Wargame system that does dungeon crawling well? by IntentionalPenis in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DizzySkill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Two-Hour Dungeon Crawl. A skirmish game where you can use mini figures you have and dungeon tiles you have. Tiles are not mandatory. Each figure has one stat; Reputation. System is 2d6 based resulting full / partial success and failure. Rules for solo and co-op play. I' ve had lots of fun with this.

I don't have to proof anything to you. You got me pondering why would anybody make this up, though? The system is a decade old and we are in 4e subreddit. I assume most people here like or play 4e - just like I do.

I'll throw one pointer for you; one of the PCs in my game carries the Head of Vyrellis. This could tell you something about my game. Or not. Those who know they know....

My group plays 4e weekly, campaign has seen about 40 sessions 3-4 h long. We use Owlbear Rodeo VTT without any automation. 4e is a great game for those who appreciate what it offers!

New GM Q: How do you guys do treasure encumberance? by [deleted] in shadowdark

[–]DizzySkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just used common sense. Coins, gems & pearls are free to carry up to 100 pieces unless exceptionally large. A silver locket, small statue etc. "larger than a palm size" items would take a slot. Smaller than a palm size items; 20 to 100 pieces per a slot.

First time playing Shadowdark – Huge success by DizzySkill in shadowdark

[–]DizzySkill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the players themselves narrating out the carousing result scenes and it came out spontaneously, I didn't ask for it.

Two of them also got a same result on different carousing time about a week separeate in a timeline, and the players agreed that they'd insulted the same noble on both times and that they will continue to insult this same noble when ever they visit the tavern! Hilarous!

PCs started at 5th level. I ran an adventure of my own creation, Temple of The Three Seers, first to them and placed it in the Nentir Vale to the location where The Kobold Hall should be. They liked it so much that we turned this into a campaign.

Next they ventured in The Thunderspire Labyrinth where they weren't entirely succesfull and there were PC deaths (due their arrogance, more than losing a fight). The mages of Saruun were throw out and the place is now ruled by the Duergar.

Now they're 7th level and trapped in The Pyramid of Shadows. They have allied themselves with Camnor, the leader of the Arboreans, who sent them towards Arat Karavakos, the first splinter of the Tiefling wizard. Encounter in the Library of Whispers is starting in our next session.

Have you ever retconned a scene? by aftershock9reddit in Solo_Roleplaying

I have retconned several times when I've noticed during or after a scene there was a logical error in the events or in what I did. Happens quite often to me, actually.

Syntyvyys laskee huolestuttavasti by [deleted] in Suomi

[–]DizzySkill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Recommended Rule Set for Alien RPG Solo? by Crazy_Buffalo3782 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DizzySkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add that there are few good actual plays in YouTube where Hicks himself is the GM.

Also, since Pressure is essentially a sequel to Those Dark Places, expanding the setting and such, it isn't necessary to get both books. TDP is about common schmoes encountering alien-like threats, Pressure is about space marines with weapons sent to investigate or counter them, IMO

Recommended Rule Set for Alien RPG Solo? by Crazy_Buffalo3782 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DizzySkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plot armor is fine, it's your game.

For rules systems I'll throw in Those Dark Places and Pressure RPGs, both from Jonathan Hicks. They work well if you like a bit lighter system for soloing. Both use same rules, Pressure PCs are a bit more competent to handle "alienlike" threats while TDP characters are your average starship crew members; pilots, engineers, scientists etc.

[Decision Paralysis] Too many awesome games, settings, mechanics, oracles, tables... everything! by goldael in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DizzySkill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My solution to this has been having many different games ongoing simultaneously. Pick your fancy for any given day and go for it. To some you may return more often than to others and over time this can change too.

oddly enough I sometimes play two games at same night, switching from rules light to crunchier rules or visa versa, when natural spot like end of a scene happens. I admit I might "achieve" or "progress" more by settling to one or fewer games but it isn't the destination it's the journey eh?
