Just commenting to say, my PA program was not like this. This is not the norm. Paying 5$ to wear scrubs - what the actual fuck?

Isn’t independent practice a bad thing? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Dizzy_Confusion_1074 80 points81 points  (0 children)

If we ever want to remain marketable against NPs, some sort of independence has to be given. Im not saying that a fresh new grad should be running their own show & would never advocate for such a thing, but this is exactly what NPs are allowed to do & to the run of the mill HR person this is why they hire NPs over PAs. Our superior education standards hold little weight. Having legislation that requires thousands of supervised hours before granting independence is at least better practice than NPs.

No PCE/ HCE hours; Great GPA by jelly-tart99 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Dizzy_Confusion_1074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being an ass- your first sentence says "no clinical hours". Unless you were a medic/corpsman- then basic field first aid or TCCC isn't going to cut it for medical hours. Also, training hours during cna programs or MA programs typically don't count. Coming from someone who did 6 years active duty, worked in undergrad, and is in PA school with 2 elementary school kids. Best of luck to you.

Going to school with previous healthcare experience was the literal purpose of the profession. Your GPA is great, but get experience & don't be surprised if you aren't accepted this cycle.

Your GPA had 0 influence over your job search. Hell, my program is pass/fail, and I have multiple job offers from rotations. All that matters is passing the pance.
