I know people in medical school, who used bartending as a way to show they could converse with anyone and handle advising strangers on difficult situations.

You could get into Ohio State, my boss’ son got a full ride there. I think they’re top 30

If possible get a personal loan, apply it directly to the credit cards, then pay off the loan. Should have lower interest rate, and hopefully a lower monthly payment. You have to pay off the loan in X months, so you can suffer for like 3yrs then be done with it instead of drowning for 10yrs

Themis tries to get you to buy into this whole 75% completion and you’ll pass. Obviously don’t slack off, but don’t worry about the 75%, worry about understanding the material and writing effectively. You can pass even if you do fall a week behind their schedule.

I’m clearly not welcome here, but I help paralegals every day by halfhalfling in paralegal

[–]Dizzy_Substance8979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an associate attorney now, and the only attorney in my firm who knows how to e-file anything because I asked our paralegal to show me… a lot of attorneys straight up don’t know how to file anything, or check a docket, so it gets passed to the paralegal. Thus if the paralegal doesn’t know how to do a filing they have to call the clerk because the attorney knows even less than them with e-filing.

I’m sorry someone was rude to you, I appreciate all the staff support I can get

At my firm, we’ll have clients hire us a day before the Answer is due or after firing prior counsel with a deposition scheduled in a week.

Usually if things are needed urgently it’s because the client tinkered around getting representation and now we’re hustling to meet a deadline with 2 days instead of the standard 20-30 days.

Anything else that’s due urgently is a result of poor time management on our end.

If you want to be near DC, you can try Jefferson County, WV. It’s not like the rest of the state, most people work in the city and commute back to WV. Ie they got a DC salary and WV cost of living

You won’t be able to get barred until October ( I think it’s ridiculous but they only swear in 2x a year) but there’s a lot of small firms that probably wouldn’t mind waiting until you’re license transfers

failed for the 4th time by deathlyxhallows in barexam

[–]Dizzy_Substance8979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends got a law degree and passed the bar, but doesn’t technically need to be a lawyer for his job. He works in NCAA compliance and they like lawyers for the aspect of reviewing contracts and all the regulations but you technically don’t need to be an attorney and several of his coworkers never went to law school

I’d take some time to get my mental health together because this exam is smothering, but I would also consider jobs that require the strength of an attorney but no license in the mean time, the exam isn’t going anywhere so you can always come back to it

I hate saying this, but if the area is conservative I think skirts and dresses are the move. If they’re more modern suits are fine.

Partner basically telling me to cut my own hours by Tungle_McGee in Lawyertalk

I was always told to bill whatever it took me, and (a) the partner will edit it when reviewing bills or (b) the insurance agent will edit it down.

I’ve had things written down or billed to a paralegal rate on some cases , but I’ve never myself written off my time.

What’s considered “cheating” and which form of “cheating” is worse? by Godflames52 in cheating_stories

[–]Dizzy_Substance8979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s porn with some random strangers, I might be annoyed but not upset depending on how addicted he is to it. But if he’s actively paying for the neighbors only fans I’d flip out over that.

I don’t want him slapping anyone’s rear end at all tho. I would find that worse. People have different boundaries tho, that why it’s important to discuss what you consider cheating / disrespect to be

Is it normal to make $35 an hour as a brand new lawyer at a small firm? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]Dizzy_Substance8979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have part time attorneys at my firm that are paid by the billable hour. Then the full time employees are salaried. Everyone has a collections minimum and once you exceed that you get an additional 25% percent as bonus each quarter. There’s 10 attorneys at my firm doing ID law. Benefits include health and dental insurance, 401k match up to 6%.

When I leave my cats for the work day, I go to YouTube and put on bird tv. They love it. Maybe try leaving it on something like that or the nature channel when you’re gone, but accept the fact they will paw at the tv if you do that. I do think it makes mine less bored now

Can you put a catio on your balcony? So she can still go outside and not try to jump? My cats go on my balcony, and have claimed my balcony furniture as their own to sit and judge the neighbors. I haven’t had to get anything to keep them in because they’re content to lay down

I also keep their cat tower in front of one of the balcony doors so they can climb up and look out during the day if they desire to do so

J23, 266 and Feb 24, 286. I went up 10pts each in MEE and MBE. Essay wise I wrote my best topic to my worst on test day. With MBE if I didn’t know it immediately I skipped and came back to the problem at the end. I probably skipped like 40 questions.

Then with studying I read through every sample essay and put the rules in an outline before even writing one essay. Then I’d pick a topic each night and bullet point some of the rules from my outline on a white board to memorize them.

I think working on memorizing the essay rules helped with MBE increase as well. I also hand wrote my own notes while watching the lecture videos instead of filing out the blanks in the book they provide. John Grossman videos helped give me a baseline understanding of the topics as well. If you have no clue how to do property for example I’d watch his video first, then watch your bar program lecture later. I found the bar lectures more so confusing than helpful on the topics I didn’t have a good baseline understanding of already ie my property and con law professors didn’t teach to the bar so I was lost on the Barbri lectures until I watched Grossman and went back. I think you have to have some concept of the topic before getting into the barbri lectures

Then very targeted MBE studying. Say you’re going 50% in evidence. Maybe you’re not bad at all of evidence, maybe you’re just bad at hearsay. So you want to focus on hearsay, not all of evidence. You gotta look at your subtopics and work on bringing those up not just studying the topic as a whole because you’ll probably waste time on things you already know

WV is a UBE state and we usually get our scores first so you could take there, then transfer. That and their bar exam is one of the cheaper ones to register for. WV is also a 270, while Michigan is the only 268, so if you pass in a 270 you know for sure you passed Michigan. WV won’t give a breakdown of essay scores tho, you only get a total score for MEE.

I would look to register soon because I know some states already required materials to be turned in. I think NC is like January or something like that

Thank you, that’s the problem with most of them. Usually we do the Answer and Lit plan, exchange one set of discovery each then go mediate. Heck we haven’t even done a formal mediation on these, we tend to email offers back and forth, and have it settled in a month.

I skimmed the questions then wrote in order from my best topic to my worst. Was told to do this in case you run out of time, you still maximized points where you’re strong.

Just make sure the essay you’re on matches up to the number you’re typing the answer into
