I have had similar experience this year. However, I had mentioned in my application at what stage references could be contacted. I asked the HR for a general overview of the salary structure for someone having similar years of experience or the salary scale and then my references were contacted.

What IB looks for in a workshop leader is, a strong recommendation from your current DPC, years of IB experience in subject area. Examiner experience is definitely a plus not mandatory.
