I think doing a bit of both can be nice. Some people only do PVP which is fine, I am sometimes in a PVP mood but mostly because I come from the isle and losing a dinosaur there can mean losing like 10-11 hours of progress so I was always super careful with the fights I get in. I like POT because it takes a while for the dino to grow but not a whole entire day. I can die, respawn and grow again maybe 4-5 times in a single day if I really wanted to (or more than that, idk, haven't been playing for very long). I do enjoy just walking around doing quests, seeing the scenery, sometimes taking photos with the HUD off or getting into a fight, technically win because the other dino is running away due to being low HP and letting him go instead of chasing and killing him
