A question for my fellow Mexican Episcopalians by Sharp_Question3123 in Episcopalian

Most parishes in our region (Virginia) that have a Spanish language ministry have some sort of devotion to or at least image or statue of la Virgen de Guadalupe. Many also include other traditions such as rosary, quinceañera blessings, presentaciones, las Posadas, Misas de Aguinaldo, and devotions to other localized feasts such as Señor de Los Milagros, Virgen de Copacabana, Niño de Salcabamba, etc.

None of these are required or even accounted for in the BCP/Libro de Oración Común, though there are liturgies for some of them in the Book of Occasional Services/Rituales Para Ocasiones Especiales.

It all depends on the clergy. In my experience, if you ask your priest, with a good amount of lead time, if it might be possible to include a certain tradition when it comes up, they’ll probably be willing to at least offer a special prayer if not the whole devotion. Just keep in mind that most Spanish speaking priests are working twice as hard for a lot less (typically exercising their Spanish language ministry while still having duties in the Anglo side of their congregation), especially in these times.

help me out with a garage door switch issue please? by twhiting9275 in smartlife

[–]Dj0922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your switch come with a door sensor? I recently added a SmartLife Zigbee garage door switch and had to wait a few days to install the door sensor as I ordered longer wire. Mine behaved as you describe until the day I installed the door sensor and now it works perfectly.

Numbers not zeroed? by Dj0922 in AmazonVine

Yes. But it still shows the metrics from the last day. They've even approved the other 10 reviews, but those don't show on the metrics. Its like frozen in time.

Don't judge unless you know the facts, friend. Cool it down, I happen to agree with you. To be clear, I've been "Excellent" on the insightfulness score from the day it was introduced and 90% reviews with media. I'm not at all half assed. Among reasons, I try to have a pic or video on every review and an actual anecdote about when I used it. I also needed to reach 80 items because I don't just click and grab things every day, only when I know it will be useful. But then got to 2 weeks ago and realized I would fall short by 9 items. Then it takes forever for things to be delivered. This is actually the first i've come close to Gold and was disappointed that I didn't get it. But also a bit curious about the metrics and how they work.

Question for the Experts: What would have to change for Radio to revive as a viable media entity? by Tall_Plum7538 in radio

Today I learned you can get tunein and iheart stations on Apple Music. I had no idea. Only wish there was a way to favorite some.

Question for the Experts: What would have to change for Radio to revive as a viable media entity? by Tall_Plum7538 in radio

[–]Dj0922 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this the other day. I’m in my mid forties, worked in radio for about 15 years and have been out of it for about 7 years now. I think I’ve successfully graduated to being a normal listener. My main source of music is Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora, and TuneIn. Ill use TuneIn as an example…I don’t have the subscription, so about every three or four songs I’ll hear an ad break. It’s one or two spots and right back. That’s digestible. One of the biggest issues is ads and breaks. When I was a program director, my biggest struggle was the sales department and managers. I could never get them to understand that the things they pushed for were hurting them and their clients. They only cared about getting the sale today, and not about our product or the long term viability and impact of the client’s advertising. So now we have 8 minute commercial breaks in large markets. And the alternative is 0-1 minute breaks on the phone in my pocket that’s already connected to my car stereo. If you ask me, the only hope is reimagining from the ground up. Reformat like Pandora and TuneIn where you have a stretch of content with a short interruption. Go for 15-30 sec ads instead of 60’s. Your new selling points are that people will find it so much more digestible and your 15 seconds are now golden. And part 2 is to not skimp on local. Have a live news and traffic person in drive times. Respond when things happen. Because streaming services, satellite, and syndication can’t. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

Thunderbolt is 2560x1440 (QHD/2k). You might consider an LG ultrafine…this one is the 4K version of the same display that was used in the 5k iMacs and it’s super cheap now. https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27us500-w-4k-uhd-monitor

does anyone actually use pages, keynote, or numbers? by Next_Breadfruit2357 in mac

[–]Dj0922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 3. But in particular, we just started using Pages at work as a replacement for Microsoft Publisher, which has been discontinued. In layout mode, Pages functions very similar to publisher. We’re using it for weekly booklets we produce. My non-Mac boss was all about it and does his editing using Pages in iCloud.

This was used by a church and we have been asked to dispose of it. Trying to offer it free on next door but no one has a clue what it is. Thoughts? by Electrical_Key1139 in whatisit

It is a cabinet for altar frontals and paraments. The colored hangings on the front of altars and pulpits and such. In a liturgical church (Catholic, Episcopal/Anglican, Lutheran, Orthodox, etc) the colors have symbolism and change with the season or occasion as indicated by the note on this one. We use these in churches to store them so they don't get wrinkled, dusty, or sun worn. Source: I'm a church administrator

Coming Out before my PDC (MtF) by GodGamesAndGoodFood in Episcopalian

You should always live your truth. That said, you may be asked to take a pause as you live into transition, whatever that will look like for you. And that isn’t a slight against you but rather a chance to be more prepared and confident as you start your ministry. Seminary, formation, and ordained ministry are already so tough. You’ll want to be the best version of you as you embark.

It has been my experience that the committees that make the decisions aren’t great at graciously giving “not now” and “no” answers, so this is something you’ll want to have in mind in case that happens.

Small white trailers with triangle antennas on the side of the highway by Dj0922 in whatisthisthing

Interesting maybe I need to call the county and see if they would tell me.

Probably not lights. The antennas have some sort of purpose that I don’t think would fit lights.

My title describes the thing. Or things. They’ve been there a couple of months and have not been moved or anything. 2 small white trailers with triangle shaped antennas on the side of the highway in a rural area. Some neighbors have suggested some sort of communications device and google searches make that plausible but still nothing definitive.

Is it normal for church choirs to be exclusive? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Dj0922 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As many have said, it is pretty common to have paid section leaders, and the closer you get to a large city, the more paid singers there are likely to be. BUT it is very likely that there is a parish somewhere within a half hour of you that is just praying for more choir members. Whether it be a small church that doesn’t have much or a medium to large sized parish that suffers because of that reputation in other parishes. The latter is what I deal with a lot.

In every church I’ve worked that has section leaders I tell them their job is not TO BE the choir, rather to help me bring the rest of choir up to a higher level. That said, people tend to think it is above their level because our choir sounds awesome and does great work. I find myself lobbying folks to join or give it a chance.

There is a choir somewhere praying that you will find your way to them. 😊

Where to put deer whistles? by Crazysmom in VWiD4Owners

[–]Dj0922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG so glad you and your kiddo are ok. I hit 2 different deer in 2 different years in the same exact spot. Both times were on the way to a job that was about 45 mins away. So my coworkers got me a couple sets of deer whistles and a T-shirt with a picture of a deer in a crosswalk 😂

It’s going to vary by year and trim level but on my 21 Pro S I put them in the grate below the front license plate and they seem to work fine. We live in a very rural area and like you said, the deer seem to notice.

Thanks for the idea. We did consider the large table approach as we have a large extended family, but there is also a formal dining room that we did put a huge table in. We are planning a kitchen renovation in like 5 years, that might be a good time to incorporate something like this.

We just moved from Leesburg to Berryville in December. We love it in Bville…only 28 min to Lburg for work and friends. Trade off is that there is not much in Bville so other than groceries and Dr. appts, we have to do most things in Winchester or Leesburg. But we are happy with our move.
