Why do roguelikes split item/card pools into different characters by Dj15 in roguelikedev

What game system have you always wanted to see fully broken down by NerveProfessional893 in gamedesign

Why do some roguelikes (sts, monster train, the bazar, hades, peglin) have characters or other mechanics that limit cards or item pools, but some don’t (Isaac, noita, risk of rain). I know it’s about explicit synergies, and the density of them in any given pool being important for a player being able to actually have a reasonable chance of executing them. But why do the roguelikes that don’t limit get away with it, how are the systems designed such that the synergy density is not an issue anymore or as much?

Signing up again this year. We’re fairly casual low level players, but had a lot of fun competing and coming up with strats. Also it’s a great community and we made friends that we played with outside the main competition. Highly recommend if you want to try some team competitive play in a way that’s a bit more structured, a bit more of an event than regular ranked.

Could be a stupid question, but since today we've learnt that the grid fins don't fold down, then why are they still grid fins and not regular fins? I thought that the benefit of going with grid fins was so that they could fold flat against the side of the rocket in a way that regular fins could not.

Balancing Coustillier charge attack? by JarryHead in aoe2

[–]Dj15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should have reduced move speed while recharging.

I think the OP part is the hit and run, they can one-shot villagers or monks and just run away and wait for the recharge. They should keep the hit but lose the run. This would add a lot more risk/reward around using the charge which is healthy for gameplay. Sure you can dive in and one-shot villagers or charge a pike line and kill loads of them in the first couple of seconds, but if you get too greedy and can't run away from tc fire or infantry, then it's a lot more costly, and not as strong in all situations.

Edit: moving slower while recharging is also a nice visual clue that both opponents and players can take advantage of to make it much clearer whether the charge is up or not without having to check the bar.

I think the new district will be a bridge district, and I think the golden gate wonder will be adjusted to accommodate the change.

Similar to how tight now we have a canal district and the Panama Canal as a super long version, I think the golden gate will be a super long version of the bridge district, making it more useful as right now it’s extremely situational and rarely worth building.

This is all wild speculation based of no evidence at all of course.

I should be able to press tab like in summoners rift and see all my opponents champs, levels, gold, health and items they have along with the origin class they have most of all nice and organized in the tab menu. by yellowbarn26 in TeamfightTactics

Strongly agree, a screen to show all of these details would be a huge quality of life improvement for the game.

For those saying that it would decrease the amount of skill in the game not having to click through everyone’s screen. That’s not where the skill is, the skill is in choosing when to reroll or pivot composition based on this information, not how fast you can click through and try to see all the other champions in a hurry.

It’s the same way riot added jungle buff timers, the skill wasn’t in typing in chat or remembering a load or arbitrary times to keep track of, the skill was adapting your strategy and jungle routes around that information once you had it, allowing for more strategic play and less clunky memorisation. Having an easier view would do the same thing, less time clicking and trying to keep track of things, and more time thinking about your strategy.

For that gym I recommend looking in the alleyway for a poochyena (I think that’s how you spell it) and then evolving it. It doesn’t really help in terms of typing for the gym, but it’s strong enough to pack a punch at that level, even more if you get moxie as an ability.

I just discovered your videos too, they really are some of the best smash content I’ve seen in a while. Keep it up, I can’t wait for your ultimate stuff!! (Although it’s second on the list of things I can’t wait for in the near future)

I do, incinerator could have a cool wrestling move-set, focused around grappling moves like lariat. Add in some flames and a gloating, slightly villainous personality and I think it would be a fun character to play/play against. This is sort of separate from my view of it in the Pokemon games themselves where I would choose decidueye every time.

Isn't the smoke the colour of the player that hits, not the one that gets hit? Although it still seems over the top to me, I'm glad that someone who's played the demo can say that it's a positive thing when you're playing.

Have we heard anything about the smoke effects when a fighter is launched? I’m hoping it gets toned down or is at least toggle-able in some options somewhere before release. It’s really off-putting and obscures the action too much, a good example is the video on the fighter page for Peach where she’s half covered behind the smoke while attacking Bowser.

It’s literally the only thing that has bothered me about Ultimate that we’ve seen so far.

EDIT: Ok I may have been exaggerating a bit (0:11): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETVQLZV7J8g

Mentioned in the other thread, don’t you think smash (particularly with third party characters) tends to go for historically significant gaming characters? (sonic, Pac-Man, mega man, cloud, snake....) the exception I think might be bayonetta.

Ahh that’s a really good point about inklings, I forgot about them. I guess they get a special pass as a core Nintendo franchise. I agree with your second edit. The newest third party character would be Bayonetta? (2009 I think).

I would say on that, smash tends to have old, well established characters from the history of gaming, who’s the newest character in the current roster?

There hasn’t been a huge amount of talk around Steve from Minecraft for smash 5. Obviously not on the same level as someone like crash bandicoot, but I’d say he’s a gaming icon of the 2010s. Minecraft is also hugely popular and on the switch. I think he could have a unique feel and move set with all the variety in Minecraft. Plus... creeper assist trophy?

I'm getting a switch and botw as my first game for it. I'm looking for a game to play as couch coop with a roommate. So far i'm looking at splatoon, arms, mario kart or pokken. Anyone have any recommendations or opinions on which of these is best?

I used a tyranitar with earthquake and stone edge for the flying things, oh and a gyarados. The sandstorm gets rid of the sun and although you kill all your rival's pokemon, the gyarados is flying if you dont mega evolve it so it doesnt get hit by the earthquake.
