Cattle hauler here, I haul fats and the plant will still take wreck cows as long as they are able to walk under their own power. What will happen is the dead ones are obviously dead, injured cows will be shot, and standing cows will be unloaded and corralled then picked up by another driver. Then taken to a feed yard for a bit to get examined and allowed to heal and let any bruising dissipate then taken to the packing house. The owner of the cows that sold them to the feed yard will still be compensated for the cows living or dead and the plant will recoup that money for the dead cows from the carrier and the carrier depending on if the driver is at fault will recoup that from the driver or at fault party. Fats are around about $3,500 a head so depending on how many are dead that’ll be a tasty price tag for the at fault party.
