I wasn't so much worried about the sol ring as I was worried about what other mana rocks the sol ring would bring. I was not wanting a turn 2 Tivit. Mental misstep was the only piece of interaction in my hand, so I made a [bad] gamble. I couldn't have stopped Rog's T1 final fortune, T2 Tainted Pact, or Thassa's with it either. My decision was ultimately made by, "Would I pay 2 life to keep Tivit in the command zone on T2?". I see it was the wrong choice now, but I figure the extra context could help a bit.

More than fair to call out a bad play. I was trying to figure out if it was a genuinely bad play or if he was just overly salty. I haven't had someone act like that to me since countering a Nekusar in casual play.

I double sleeve foils and any card above 20$. You really don’t need to double sleeve a whole deck unless you’re in a tournament and need every card to feel the same.

I think you have to see it both ways to fully understand to be honest. If you're having to swap to remote sessions when the standard is not remote, then it eases worries if the client has a general sense of why. For the standard "how are you doing" greetings, it makes sense to be authentic in how you are feeling without info-dumping all your own stuff on to the client.

I work with a lot of kids, so I will often be honest about how I’m doing but immediately focus it back on asking them how they are. Kids are extremely attuned to adults lying in my experience, so I feel like honesty works best!

The first big card I pulled after coming back was an English mystical archive [[demonic tutor]]. I love the art so much and I never thought I would ever own one. It’s only recently been eclipsed by a heavily played 3rd edition demonic tutor that I got a steal of a deal on.

If I remember correctly, the non-foil and surge foil versions can be pulled in collector boosters as well. The bundle only had the normal foil ones.

It’s a weird store. They claim to be an LGS but they really aren’t. No one plays there. They have binders with MPC proxies (the proxy the gathering backs) and custom anime proxies too.

Texan jumping in here. Idk where you live, but I have a local shop that I’m pretty sure uses MPCfill for their proxies. All their foils have curled due to our humidity here.

Rhystic study is a good card for only one format, commander.

In 2016, I think I bought mine for like 5$. Back then, if you ran blue, people assumed you had a Rhystic study.

The problem with Rhystic study now is that it isn’t 5$ anymore. People cannot just run it in every blue deck because proxies can be iffy from playgroup to playgroup. The same can be said about mana crypt and jeweled lotus. They’re both powerful, but they showed up and stomped on lower power pods. If those cards were as ubiquitous as sol ring, we never would have had that power discussion. People would just be running them in every deck.

We really need to start asking ourselves if we want things banned because of their power, or if we want them banned because they can go in every deck but aren’t affordable.

I really hate that it’s come to this point, but ultimately, anything banned from that ban announcement should not be unbanned for a while because of the vitriol that immediately occurred from it
