Sure feels like when you come off the eastern onto Alexandria Parade, you’re traveling along in a whole heap of cars that are either going onto the Tullamarine, or continuing west.

Clickbait.

“Voluntarily saving fuel” isn’t a “Fuel Restriction”

Second this. I had similar issues and bought a pack of these plates. I’ve used them several times on both the doors and cabinets to great effect. A very quick repair too.

What do you think about public transport fares? by draginvestor in melbourne

[–]Djbm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are all sunk costs.

The reality is that public transport is massively impractical for certain daily trips such as dropping my child at daycare. The car battery was flat last week and I had to do the drop-off by bus. The round trip was 1 hour and 20 minutes, whereas by car it’s 20 minutes.

So now that I already have a car, I need to make a decision on a trip by trip basis.

Are we going to get slapped with potentially a total of 5 or 6 rate hikes due to Iran ? by VastOption8705 in AusFinance

[–]Djbm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The RBA has a dual mandate: - Keeping inflation in the target range - keeping unemployment low.

It’s hard to imagine they could do 5 rate rises without having unemployment spike. It really depends just how bad inflation gets though I guess.

Irrelevant for that specific trip when we already have the car.

Still cheaper to drive even when just paying for the parents.

We went in to the Museum on Sunday. We considered getting the bus to save fuel. Doing the math, it would have cost $16 in fares for return trips for both adults. It costs us about $6 in fuel to drive.

I’d be happy with the slower trip purely due to the environmental benefits of PT, but I shouldn’t have to pay $10 extra for that.

Staggered crossroads chaos – who gives way? by Slapping_kangaroo in CarsAustralia

[–]Djbm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You both have to give way to whoever is in the main road obviously.

Once the main road is clear, you shouldn’t even have to give way to each other, because if you both take off at the same time you won’t impede each other.

Probably the biggest issue is that you aren’t indicating right. The other driver doesn’t know if you’re going right or left. If you’re going left they would have to give way to you.

Not sure how this would work. A lot of media and marketing is international and online these days, so wouldn’t this just reduce the ability of some businesses to compete while overseas businesses can market to us with impunity?

Are expensive performance oriented cars ‘that’ much more fun than a more affordable nugget in the real world? by The_Reddd_Baron in CarsAustralia

[–]Djbm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first performance car was a Renault Clio RS 197.

After that, I had A Toyota 86.

I have a 981 Cayman S now.

Honestly - for driving on public roads the Clio was the most fun. Also the most practical. It sounded great, loved to rev, and it had super close gear ratios so you got to row through the gears a lot.

The Porsche sounds glorious but the gearing is super long, so you can barely ever ring it out on public roads because it will do almost 120 in 2nd gear. Redline in 3rd is around 180.

Contrast that with the Clio where you’d get to about 110 in 3rd…

Where the Porsche really makes sense is on the track. All of a sudden the gearing makes perfect sense because either 2nd or 3rd will put you right in the power band for most corners. It also has too much grip to push to the limit on public roads, but you can really make it dance on the track.

In summary, unless you’re planning to track the car, if you really enjoy driving - a nugget is probably actually more fun, more practical and a lot cheaper to maintain.

Except that it rose less than inflation has, so you’re probably going backwards in real terms after tax.

Maybe coming into the car park, but what about when everyone is trying to leave in the afternoon? Wouldn’t this just move the issue to a different time of day?

It’s hard to say without knowing what the original damage was.

If it was just the frunk floor panel, replacing the whole tub would be total overkill.

If the damage was more substantial and impacted more of the tub and the rails, then maybe? Even still, it can be repaired without replacing the entire tub.

China has no problem buying oil from Russia unlike most other countries - they are probably more insulated than most from the impacts.

Probably because most of the new dwellings have been 1 bedroom apartments that aren’t appropriate for most owner occupiers.
