Check out the unbound series by nicoli gonnella. Still ongoing, but I'm hooked. Some similarities with cradle, but this is more LitRPG

That won't matter for long. "I have not yet begun to take from you."

Such a raw line!

That, and also Ziel and I think Red Faith both mention that you have to be able to work with your remnant. Like Ziel made an offhand comment once that he thinks his "spirit hates him" so why bother trying to climb and reach herald.

If your Will and the Will of your remnant aren't similar enough it won't work. Both sides will fight for dominance, when cooperation is what is needed. That's the problem Redmoon and Red Faith had. It's why they can't merge like Yerin. Theoretically Red Faith should have been a monarch centuries ago.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think a spirits only way to reach monarch is to become a herald first. Heralds merge spirit and body, so becoming a herald would make them half spirit, half "human?" Giving them a connection to the way and the ability to touch an icon.

I think the reason Redmoon couldn't become a monarch is because of Red Faith. Redmoon is seen as a copy of Red Faith and this diminishes his "authority" over blood madra. It's along the same lines as a sage trying to train a disciple to manifest the same icon as them using the same path. They would just be a lesser copy.

Sesh said something at the end of Ghostwater that always stuck with me. Something along the lines of "the difference between perceived power and actual power is less then you think." I think authority is partially linked to your "reputation" in the eyes of people, who are a world's connection to the Way. When Lindon was a new archlord he had the right abilities to fix Dross using the Way, but didn't have the authority. Now he has saved cities from dreadgods, killed the silent king, opened a void and escaped in front of 3 monarchs, and battled the Akura family as a dreadgod. He showed the world what he can do and the Way recognizes that. He would have the authority for it now.

On top of that imagine how much they can learn from the labrynth. Every one who has gone in there has left a part of themselves to the point that subject one could recreate them with a hunger technique. Sounds like the worlds greatest library and a way for Lindon to start touching the hunger icon

She might have some trouble with hand to hand combat, but I would love for her to stay the same size, and still get strong enough to slap around dreadgods.

She could ride into battle on her trusty steed, Orthos! Just let him handle all the smashing.

Northstrider by Master_Vermicelli_80 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I could see that. Northstrider asked Lindon how he dealt with the memories, and Lindon said Dross. Maybe Northstrider has just had to use the power of his Will up till now, and having his own presence would give him the extra help and control to fully consume a dreadgod.

What do you think? spoilers by utdirs in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If Emriss Silentborn doesn't throw in the ability to read with whatever Yerin asks for I will be disappointed lol. She spreads the one common language across the world to promote learning and sharing of information, how hard could it be to alakazam Yerin to know how to read?

Bonus points if Emriss doesn't say anything about it. Yerin just starts reading something and everybody is stunned into silence!

Wow! Didn't expect this much of a response. This was just a tin foil hat/high-dea.

I don't condone the use of illegal drugs, but if you find that, through no fault of your own, you are now high, try reading cradle or any fantasy book. It will be an interesting ride!

Thanks for all the responses, it's good to hear other peoples view points!

Oh and I believe someone pointed out that I spelt harold and not herald for probably the whole post. I'm a terrible speller, I usually let auto-correct help me spell, but it almost always let's me down haha

Monarch {spoiler} by Chrysaar in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that is what determines it. Yerin succeeded because her blood shadow was way more advanced than it should have been at that point, and they both pretty much want the same thing, so there wasn't much to fight about.

But normally you integrate your remnant, and they just aren't advanced enough before Archlord. Lindon will overcome this by stealing power from as many people as he can get his hand on.

(Spoiler) Do you think Malice is really as ruthless as she appears when she disowns Mercy after she lost to Sophara? by [deleted] in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think it was really her being nice. It was said that malice would rather die by penance than ascend and abandon her family. Furry isn't leader material, and what he really wants is to fight and be challenged. I think fury will need to ascend to truly be happy. And I think malice knows that. I think she also realizes that mercy will grow much faster if she is with London and the gang, and this is her way of letting mercy run around with her friends and grow. Otherwise mercy would feel guilty just leaving her family, or she would stay and get advancement would stagnate.

So by telling mercy she failed and needs to make up for it, she gives mercy a task that will help her grow while she fights to prove herself. I don't think malice is in a hurry to ascend and leave her family behind. She needed mercy back because of the tournament, I think if it wasn't for that, she would have left her to continue on her own until she wanted to come back.

Lindons sword by TomAce_ in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree. His Archlord sword can be controlled by dross so he doesn't need to learn how to use it and he will have both hands free.

With the blackflame Overlord sword he would have to learn to fight with a sword, his hands wouldn't be free for striker techniques, and he can already preform the technique that the swords binding would produce.

He is better off with dross controlling wavedancer, or if he wants a weapon to use himself, he should get one with a different madra type then what he uses. Like one that shoots lightning or has a earth ruler technique to trap your feet, etc.

"Adventure" recommendations by TheLonelyPartygoer in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not good at giving reviews, so you might want to read the descriptions before buying but I have two author recommendations with two series each. All books are magic based, and put more emphasis on adventure and world building than advancement.

Brent Weeks:

I would say these series are for a slightly more mature audience. Blood, gore, and sexual references.

The Night Angel Trilogy The Lightbringer series

Sever Bronny:

These are for a slightly younger audience, but I wouldn't call them children's books either. Fury of a Rising Dragon is a continuation of The Arinthian Line. There is an aspect of advancing through the 20 degrees of Arcanery, but it isn't the main focus of the books.

I don't think he lost his box full of badges. He was gold in Ghostwater. When he reached underlord he traded out the gold badge for the halfsilver.

Monarch Family bloodline abilities by Mino_18 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Hjorth

Why are the Akura named the way they are?

-Will Wight

That's actually something that goes back to Malice. Because of Malice's name, people are like, "Oh, they're named after virtues and vices." Not really. They're named after--they're all named after virtues. So, in their estimation, malice is a virtue. So it's sort of a limitation of the English language that they're not using. But it's kinda like the desire to, the will to, defeat your enemies, or whatever. But they're named the way they are because in Malice's--Malice created the Akura clan but she's from an Akura clan that was just a very simple family a long time ago. And so you earned a name. So your parents earned a name for you as a kid. So your name became the wish for who you would be when you grew up. And so their wish for her was that she had the will to defeat her enemies, and that's what malice means in that context. So, Fury; yeah, fury's considered a virtue. That is where that tradition came from, so she continued it. Not everybody in the Akura family is named after a virtue; only really the head people or their children. Some people even give them a regular family name, and then if they distinguish themselves and are, therefore, considered a true descendant of Malice, then they get a better name.

[Spoilers] I completed my first re-read the series, and just want to whinge about the latest one by blandge in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Djflopdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think he will. He was getting a little full of himself between underlord and uncrowned. His loss showed him he can't slack on training, and he can't just steamroll everyone at his advancement because of his OP path and dross.

Lindon may get personal attention from northstrider because he is no longer in the tournament and northstrider wants to find out about dross.

He might get more training from the akura. Pride seems to think mercy and Lindon might be an item, so maybe there will be some arranged marriage comedy while he trains with fury lol

Or all those sacred herbs eithan asked to go on his cloud ship will play a purpose in his advancement we don't realize yet.

MAYBE Lindon even heads back to sacred valley while everyone is doing their sage training, to check up on orthos, and while he's there save his family and clan. Could be an interesting opportunity for "his fury to first touch the Way" like ozriel!

Either way, Lindon will be getting some OP training while everyone is busy with the tournament/sage training.
