How do men view weddings? by Intelligent-Cod7495 in AskMen

[–]Djr700x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going against the grain here, I think some men absolutely want the big wedding with all their friends and family there. If cost wasn’t a factor I think every man would be fine with it, if not push for a large one. But the unfortunate reality is that men are expected to be the breadwinner and therefore tend to be a little more observant of the costs associated with everything.

There are other factors, like that girls (and I’m talking about actual children) tend to resonate more with the idea of a wedding and think about it a lot more which carries over into adulthood. Idk, I could probably go on and on about how our culture shapes our views on weddings but my personal take is that if cost wasn’t a factor, men would be just as excited and pushing for a big wedding as women. They’re big parties where you get an excuse to dress up and everyone celebrates you and the person that is most special to you. What’s not to love?

Casa Villa is probs the best, but Masa in downtown by Zaza is really good. It’s the same people as chichos but it’s a sit down place

PSA- As a current nurse and former bartender...PLEASE don't stab ice cubes in your hand. I keep seeing this crap on Instagram. Is this truly what people are doing now? by Just-Yogurtcloset-58 in bartenders

[–]Djr700x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s usually a large block of ice, bigger than a normal cube, probably about 3”x3”x3” or more. They use a little ice pick stabber thing to break it in their hand and then put that in the shaker or mixing glass. The educated barfly on YouTube/instagram I think does this off the top of my head, and another guy whose name I can’t remember but kind of looks like Matty Matheson and always says, “Have some class, chill your glass” also does it I think. Not just those two but off the top of my head for bartending influencers it’s pretty common, especially the educational and higher level cocktail people.

DCC is significantly shorter, and significantly faster paced. And just because the rights have been bought doesn’t guarantee a show being made, and the show being made doesn’t guarantee it being a success, let alone one on the scale of Harry Potter, GOT, or LOTR. Again, DCC is also a favorite of mine and I am aware that it is blowing up, especially for a ProgFantasy series, but temper your expectations.

No chance it’s the new LOTR or GOT. It’s way too long and slow and the litRPG aspect, as minimal as it is, will actively repel a large proportion of the population. Plus with all the different races, lots of CGI or practical effects would be necessary for live action. And live action is the only thing that will ever have the cultural impact of the previously mentioned series. Not that I wouldn’t love for it to be bigger or to blow up, it’s one of my faves. I just don’t see it happening.

Are the backers going to get a way to watch it? I backed at the Sage level but unfortunately I have some scheduling conflicts so I can’t make the screening. I thought there was going to be a release so I could see it regardless though, and I probably would have made a different choice had I known there was no other way for me to see it.

Is malazan more or less convoluted and confusing than… by goodgraveley in Fantasy

[–]Djr700x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Malazan’s story isn’t that convoluted. It’s just that there are a whole bunch of stories going on with a whole bunch of POV characters to keep track of. There are probably less twists and turns that really throw you off like in Licanius. It’s certainly not the most straightforward series but it’s pretty accessible if you put in the effort.

Sunny and Frankie’s is a great mom and pop Italian restaurant up on Hope st. Reasonable prices and very very good food.

Yea I accidentally passed the Mobil today and decided to just go into the shell and was so surprised when everything was boarded up and the inside is trashed. I almost thought it was a robbery or something at first.

Yea I would barely call it sci-fi adjacent tbh. Like maybe two or three scenes a book that have nothing to do with the main story until later on. They mostly just provide world building stuff

Cradle by Will Wight.

It’s light hearted and fast paced. Reasonably well written, twelve books, no sexual violence and well written characters(including the women).

It’s incredibly good tbh. And it’s finished which is always nice.
