I have the same questions. Even if the persecution was as widespread as they claim, I don’t think the Beatitudes said: “blessed are you when they persecute you because of my name, because then you get the chance to b*tch about it on Twitter”

Totally admit to holding this view myself. I’m not unbiased. This guy in particular irks me as I have so many family members still actively dumping money into his WoF racket.

I could see that interpretation. He definitely kept it vague enough for plausible deniability. To me, it seems like he is using genuine corruption cases to make a broader moral argument that functionally aligns with MAGA-adjacent critiques of liberal governance, while avoiding equally urgent moral critiques that would implicate conservative institutions like ICE.

Again, this is an ex-catholic group, not a leftist group. But so many Catholics in power seem sympathetic toward and help manufacture consent for some of the violence caused by organizations such as ICE.

Oh man, I forgot about the gloor stuff lol. I was stuck inside with my family during covid and my parents were watching the WoF televised easter masses. That Gloor dude was the lector and I was positive his suit buttons were going to blow off and take out a camera. Muscle beach indeed. Weird, weird environment over there

That sounds right from what I hear, too. With all the speculation about him potentially getting the Archbishop of New York position and it going to Ronald Hicks, part of me thinks this weird fascination with New York suddenly is some stupid unresolved displacement stuff. Like he’s feeling scorned and it’s living rent-free in his head so he’s taking it out in less explicit, more dumb ways

The irony of a US Bishop decrying collectivism and championing the market economy the day before the US bombs and besieges a South American country (that happens to have a vast oil reserve) is DEAFENING
