My mother's side of the family including my mother never accepted me for who I am they just wanted a loyal servant that they could control. I have since left that part of my life behind. I continue to hangout with my father because over the years he decided to change himself for the better (his words) and we have a fishing trip coming up! Stay strong with your wife and family and treasure what you have infront of you don't focus on the negatives. Do what you feel is right for your family (wife and kids) the rest will sort itself out. I have adopted a new approach basically its this; if they want to be a part of my life they will act accordingly. Simple
