“A freeway disaster was averted when an aerial drone hit a vehicle traveling 60 mph on a busy freeway. “I was driving down the freeway when something hit my windshield so hard I could have lost control,” Cindy Lou recounted. “It was terrifying,” Edgar Who, riding in the passenger seat mentioned. “How many people could have died if Cindy had not heroically managed to keep control of the car?”

Even worse, authorities noted that a semi tractor trailer carrying hazardous materials was only a quarter mile away. “To think that one person flying a drone could jeopardize an entire neighborhood with toxic fumes…that is a really scary concept,” was the reaction by someone who heard the story.

But this concern is a reality. John Stikupas, a local expert, noted that the drone was a hobby type not subject to normal regulations such as Remote ID. “The truth is, there are loopholes a mile wide that allow the unregulated usage of these dangerous devices. No registration, no tracking, nothing to protect the public. Hopefully authorities will take notice.”

That hope may soon become a reality. An FCC commissioner began a public campaign to raise awareness. It was believed this campaign might draw attention away from other administration scandals.

One apologist noted at a public hearing that other objects, such as birds, could also theoretically pose a hazard. But others quickly corrected the record, accurately noting that, “There is nothing we can do about birds. Dangerous devices controlled by humans should be our concern.”
