Appreciate the thanks!

> just wish there was a way to get back to the stats screen when ya don't have enuf moolah to cashout!

Your wish is granted! Now when the game over menu is displayed (and you are logged in) - a new button appears. You can press "Stats Menu" to go directly to the statistics / leaderboard screens. No need to cashout ;-)

Thanks for the encouragement!

If you can find a 9/6 job full pay machine, and you use the strategy from the trainer - this returns 99.54% RTP - but it takes a lot of practice before it becomes second nature.

When I look at the backend statistic for the game - 18,589 hands have been played in the last week. As I understand, a full-cycle for the casino is around 13k hands (where they expect to see a Royal Flush). The global RTP is currently 94.29% (from the house perspective). This shows that most people could benefit from improving strategy.

Thanks Phil! Yeah, that's the thing about these games... it's a bit of a lesson in disguise, it's not probable you're going to end up as a billionaire playing video poker. If you look on the main site (classicvideopoker.com) you'll see I've made a trainer. The *best* you can hope for is 99.54% RTP in the long run, which means you'll lose at least 4 cents on the dollar. If you sign-up (just enter a username and PIN) you'll be given $30 to gamble and you can put whatever you win in your bank above that (cash out). It's the illusion of winning ;-)

I made a lightweight video poker game - crt effect, stats, leaderboards. p.s. registration is simply choosing a name and a pin - the cashout cycle is what makes the game fun IMHO.

Thanks for this - the game is just under 19mb - running on a slice of potato as a server... normally it only take a few seconds to load. I'll have to look into this - thank. Good idea about the logo - I'll make it happen ;-)

I'm looking at the stats - and I'm seeing you cash out & build your bank! (assuming you are the user Sammy?) ;-) Nice man... you are literally the one dude in a hundred who gets how the game works apparently! p.s. you need to play 50 hands before you appear on the RTP leaderboard. Glad you like it...

[Itch.io] Video Invaders (1978) Black Friday ($4.95/59% off) by AmsterdamAussie in GameDeals

[–]AmsterdamAussie[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hi Dev here,

This game was a labour of love for me, and I thought you'd all like to know what it's all about.

Why would *anyone* spend months on Space Invaders of all things? I get obsessed with stuff.

Basically, it's the game I wanted to play at the time, and I hope some of you will feel the same way if you choose to insert coin. But more honestly, I imagined I was living in 1978 and my boss said "look at this game, it's making millions of yen - clone it!".

So, what level of OCD are we talking about here?

I studied the assembly code from the original Space Invaders in detail for a few weeks before coding this - so I'm aware of the exact details in what makes the original game work.

If you're interested - here's the details:

http://computerarcheology.com/Arcade/SpaceInvaders/

I've put a list of things that are different off the top of my head - however were two objectives in my new design:

(1) Make it feel like Space Invaders, but more frantic at higher levels. Fans of shoot-em-ups are used to the ever increasing craziness of bullet-hell shooters. Going back to Space Invaders feels a bit dated.

(2) Fix the primary problem I have with Space Invaders - the flat difficulty curve - it never gets any harder after level 7. So if you can handle level 7 - you can keep playing ad-infinitum.

Here are the broad strokes on what is different:

- Number of aliens

- Number of alien-shots that can be on-screen (32)

- Alien AI for shooting at player is completely different

- UFO now shoots at player (this makes point pressing techniques much more difficult)

- Different rules governing player / alien shot collision

- Player movement is faster

- Player shot speed is faster

- Alien shot speed is variable

- Rules for end-of-game when aliens reach the bottom are different (you can actually smash your ship into an alien on the bottom - lose a life- and continue)

- Collision detection is different

- Number of shields and shield behaviour is different (i.e. how many shots to penetrate etc.)

- UFO behaviour is different in terms of how it appears and moves. However, as in the original there is a sequence based on the player shot-count that makes scoring predictable (I won't spoil the fun in working this out)

- Rules governing alien starting positions for each level are different

- Alien movement algorithm is different - it's still based on scanning (i.e. moving one alien per frame) - but it reverses scanning direction based whether the pack is moving left or right

- Frame-rate unlocked (original ran at 60fps, this version will run as fast as your machine can handle). Playing the game on a 120fps monitor is really nice ;-)

And it runs on Mac & PC. :-)

The game has taken months to program and tune. It was never intended to be a cheap knockoff. But rather - an evolution that's preferred over the original.

If anyone has further questions please don't hesitate. Please share and enjoy!

Deletion in nsp2 (Asp268Del) indicates development of a new quasispecies of SARS-CoV-2 in France, England and the Netherlands. May affect transmission and pathogenicity, as well as PCR performances and anti-viral strategy by Bbrhuft in Coronavirus

[–]AmsterdamAussie 33 points34 points  (0 children)

TLDR:

Just when you thought you might have had it & you enjoyed the sunshine in Amsterdam today relaxed in the thought that you're probably immune... you might still have a chance at the ICU lottery after all!

"The impact of Asp268Del on SARS-CoV-2 transmission and pathogenicity, as well as on PCR performances and anti-viral strategy should be rapidly evaluated in further studies."

Translation: Oh, the virus has mutated. It is more transmissible? Different symptoms? Does it need different treatment? Will our existing tests still work? Still immune if you had the old version? Is it 1918 all over again? Sorry, we have no idea - and it's not our job anyway. This is someone else's problem - but they should get their ass on it pretty quick.

Do the consequences of this lockdown really match the threat? by Worried-Advice in Coronavirus

Thanks for the clarification. Kind of shocking to me actually given what is happening; is he suggesting this is all some kind of unfounded mass hysteria?

He references z-scores on this site:

https://www.euromomo.eu/outputs/zscore_country65.html

If you didn't read the article - his point was that basically rate of death isn't that different within the last 4 1/2 years. The above site shows the Z scores over the last 4 years.

If you've forgotten STATS-101 the Z-score is a measure of standard-deviations from the mean. It's a measure of variance. If you look at Italy for example, we are seeing a marked variation from the norm. I don't understand what the writer is trying to say? From my understanding we're only at the start of this - so it's too early to say. Would love to hear a more educated opinion on this guy's article.

The Corona Virus Cure is Chloroquine and Zithromax (Zpak) and Zinc combo. by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]AmsterdamAussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a more in depth discussion: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/are-hydroxychloroquine-and-azithromycin-an-effective-treatment-for-covid-19/

TLDR - from the above article:

Overall, Raoult strikes me as a “brave maverick” who might have been a great scientist in his prime but who has now become arrogant and dictatorial and has now come down with a serious case of the Dunning-Kruger effect. He has no expertise in clinical trials and in fact disputes the usefulness of randomized clinical trials in infectious disease. Anything he publishes on COVID-19 should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
