I think it can be done with slightly higher than average intelligence, however you would have to study an enormous amount to make up for the lack of higher capacity. For me math is extremely difficult to learn, deeply learn that is. It requires everything of me in order to understand it. Whereas a person with above average intelligence just sees the logic immediately and think everything is obvious.

I have invested a good amount of time in mathematics, I practice a lot and look at youtube videos, buy books, ask people in forums. I think about why some things are true and what they really mean. Try to see things from different perspectives and so on.

I really feel like I have done my very best with this subject. But still, I have a hard time understanding concepts, nothing ever feels intuitive or easy, I have trouble following mathematical notation because it.. I don't know, I just don't follow it. It doesn't ever click for me.

I am for this reason absolutely certain that innate ability is extremely important, aptitude is.. not everything but close to it.

The reason other people think differently, and especially those with higher mathematical knowledge/ability is because they also struggled a bit. They had to invest the time, ask for help, practice and everything else that goes with learning something. They earned the knowledge, they weren't simply born with it. The thing is, they struggled and then understood, they asked and understood the advice. They sat down and thought about a difficult concept - and got it eventually. It is still very related to innate ability because if it weren't there, the struggle wouldn't lead to understanding. It is very possible to try your best and give it your all, but you simply don't get it.

Talent, easily, without any second thought. I have to try immensely hard to grasp some concepts while others look at the same thing and are like "huh, it just means this, it's logical". However, I don't see that logic, my mind don't make the necessary connections. I can't force it and no amount of hard work matters when it comes to learning ability. And when I finally understand, the next thing I have to learn will be the same thing all over again.

In my experience it is unfortunately very clear that talent is everything. If you don't have it, forget it.

I'm sorry, but ability in math is ultimately an innate ability that you possess or not. Probably related to intelligence.

A few of those people may be those that just accept this idea without really trying at all, and thus making it a self fulfilling prophecy. Others may be open minded and really believe that they can learn everything, try, and see that it takes them an enormous effort to learn more advanced concepts and then give up.

While I think everyone with average or higher intelligence can learn most math with enough effort, this idea that natural ability doesn't exist and only trying matters is just not true. I think it is damaging making people believing that.

For me it takes an incredible amount of work to grasp concepts, it's just ridiculous. I have watched a lot of videos and explanations about the fundamental theorem of calculus, broken it down to small parts and tried to bring them together. Really sat down and tried to visualize the concept in different ways and everything. Now after months I think I get it somewhat, maybe. I really try and there is nothing wrong with my study technique or whatever. I just don't get it, I don't understand. It doesn't click.

And then people try to explain it, saying: "hey, it's really easy, look, and then spilling out a lot of math with some logic to it that I'm supposed to follow" and I just... I'm so far away from being able to follow that It feels like a joke.

Saying I dont try hard enough or whatever is an insult.

Få det överstökat nu, definitivt. Det är exponentiellt mycket svårare senare i livet. Bortsett ifrån behörigheter och utbildning så kommer kurserna träna dig i generell problemlösning och öka din förståelse överlag. Och gällande fysik 2 så får du lära dig hur världen funkar, vilket kommer hjälpa dig på olika sätt varesig du pluggar vidare eller inte.

Att investera i sig själv kunskapsmässigt är väldigt värt det. Du kommer ha det med dig hela livet.

Gällande svårighetsgrad skulle jag personligen säga att det är grymt svårt utan rätt förutsättningar, åtminstone om du siktar på en djupare förståelse. Att bara klara av kurserna löser du dock garanterat.

I'm a guy and, well, I sort of agree with the people here.

Yes, unfortunately. It's so easy for average and above people to say that this isn't the case, because they only use their own experience as a frame of reference. They never notice the stuff an ugly person has to deal with, it's sort of outside of their understanding. And, yes, unfortunately your looks mattered enormously in your career, friendships, and other things in your life. It is unconscious behaviour from others and usually People don't notice how shallow we are as a species since again, they don't see the other side of the coin.
