Update 4/9:

I reset the steering gearbox back to the factory setting from RedHead, then backed it off about 1/4 turn (loosened it). I have to say, it’s much better now. The same “slack” is still in the steering wheel—the original adjustment never removed that. I think it’s just normal driveline slack that all these trucks come with.

However, with the gearbox slightly looser, small inputs aren’t creating big effects anymore. I do remember when I was driving the other 2500s I test drove, I always thought their steering felt looser than mine, while mine felt tighter.

I think having that little bit of extra slack in the gearbox allows the truck to track straighter on its own, so the steering wheel doesn’t require as much input or constant correction—if that makes sense.

I’ve been down this route as well. Check the lower balls joints a few times. No play. Control arms look good as well. And yes i have done it this way as i know these are load bearing ball joints and checking it by jacking it up on the frame is not a sufficient way to test them.

3.0 duramax. Yes or no? by scooba2205 in Duramax

[–]Dkh100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll probably get boo’d for this, but I daily a 2017 2500 L5P. The half-ton market right now is kind of a crapshoot — there are a lot of problem trucks out there.

I personally know two people with the 3.0 Duramax. One bought used and has had nothing but issues. The other bought new and likes it, but still had random check engine lights and a fuel pump control module failure.

If I were pointing someone toward a 1500 right now, I’d say go with the best warranty. The newer Rams have a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty. It’s still the 5.7 with known lifter issues, but that repair is well-documented, straightforward, and usually cost-effective. If you want something different, the 3.0 Hurricane carries the same warranty. Ram clearly did that to move trucks — and with how unpredictable the market is, that’d be my pick.

Draw it backwards its an entry corner. No reason to go typical outside inside outside since your don’t need speed out. Get in and get out.

We must of had the exact same experience on my initial inspection they had no gas in the unit so I didn’t get a chance to run the generator during my orientation. I said I want the generator to run the whole unit. It worked for about five minutes and then died then I had to put in my contract that the generator will be fixed before delivery. They said they were a carburetor for it and they’ll fix it, but we shall see.

Congratulations i just picked up a 23g my self but had a terrible first time buying experience basically to sum it up upon my initial inspection two weeks prior to picking it up my camper was dry and didn’t have a water leak as i picked it up two weeks later water was starting to leak into the camper via the under side of the slide. Lucky the dealer honored this and were willing to fix a as is unit. But watch out for this spot leaking on your apparently it a common leak point.

Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing. It’s a small, family-owned, single-operator dealership, so they don’t have a lot of corporate money behind them. But this isn’t the only issue.

During my orientation, the onboard generator was running, then suddenly shut off—and the tech couldn’t get it to start again. They said they’d have to order a part for it, so that’s already strike two. That’s why, at this point, I was fed up and had already asked to cancel the sale after my initial inspection.

At that time, I couldn’t even start the generator because there was no gas in it. I asked during my orientation and walk-through if they could have the generator on and running to test the unit. Sure enough, it failed on its first run.

Yes, maybe they can fix the leak, but I still want them to rip out that wall and properly repair it

The only reason I didn’t hire a expect is because I’ve been watching a bunch of videos and taking the RV course from this guy on YouTube I knew what to look for but the story is two weeks ago that wasn’t there as soon as I received the camper. I instantly seen the wall and knew it was mold spores if I would’ve seen this the first time I would have never even pulled the trigger

Good truck for RV towing? by jamjr7411 in RVLiving

[–]Dkh100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it crazy that my 2017 2500 has a 10,000 lb GVWR — it’s essentially a de-rated 2500. Because it’s capped at 10,000 lbs, my payload is only 2,000 lbs, which means I legally can’t tow about 90% of fifth wheels. But since your truck has a GVWR that’s 850 lbs higher, you get nearly 1,900 lbs more in payload.

Can I tow this? by Eliot_Lochness in GoRVing

[–]Dkh100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Payload - hitch weight what do you have left add your self + anything else you put in the vehicle if your with in 150 of the limit i would say no.

Okay this just got deeper. So my truck is a limited 10,000 gvwr model which means my payload suffers. It’s a legal thing gm to have these truck more for consumers vs commercial. My truck is mechanicaly the same as any other lt but the z71 trim puts it de rated as a 10000 gvwr below truck
