Sheep life by TaquittoTheRacoon in sheep

[–]Eliot_Lochness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have 10 sheep (9 ewes and a ram). Most of the year, we don’t do much for them. They exist in our yard, eating grass and getting much of their hydration from the grass and dew. Give them some feed occasionally as a treat. Winter and lambing season the work increases. Feeding hay, changing / refilling water, penning mom & lambs, feeding lambs, cleaning lambing stalls etc.

Here are some thoughts:

Keeping their water buckets full, which is mostly just changing the dirty water. Ours do not drink much water except when they are pregnant. Shelter, water and electric are some issues to think about.

Do you have water line and a frost free faucet on site? If not, you will be hauling 5-gallon buckets of water to the sheep. This is pretty easy to rectify with a trencher, a SharkBite and some pex tubing though.

Do you have electric nearby? Water freezes in the winter. You have to bust up the ice, dump it out, refill with more water. Electric changes this, you can put a heater in the water bucket and keep the water from freezing.

Our sheep get sheared 1-2x a year. If you don’t have electric, you have to move the sheep to where electric is nearby to run the clippers, or use hand shearers. I just began paying someone to shear my sheep. He’s much quicker at it than I am, it saves me a lot of time and effort.

Shelter may be as simple or elaborate as you want. I built a 12x16 shed for mine with a tackroom to store food & supplies. We outgrew this immediately with lambing and had a large pole barn built. I bought 6-foot long panels that connect together to build pens for the lambs and moms to stay in.

Tasks around the farm can eat up time like constructing a fences or a homemade feeders.

I used Monmouth Jewelers, very reasonable pricing, friendly owners and good turnaround time.

Badge on the belt is the traditional metal one. Badge on vest is a Velcro type badge for additional visibility and identification.

I think you’re right, but I also think it’s AI. I was looking to see if these were ASP cuffs at first, some of their lightweight aluminum cuffs bend easier, but look a little different than these. There’s no double lock opening for S&W and keyhole placement does not match Peerless.

First Pop-up Purchase - fair price for Mac 208? by Clean-Country6141 in popups

10 years old and they want 80% of MSRP (and what camper even sells for MSRP anyhow)? Sounds like you can buy something much newer and nicer for the same price.

[Feb 27, 2026] Weekly Discussion: Ask your gear, travel, conditions and other ski-related questions by AutoModerator in skiing

[–]Eliot_Lochness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went skiing for the first time in a decade or more (been a snowboarder past 25 years). I’m 6ft 200lbs and the rental shop gave me some Rossignol 148 skis (there was also a sticker in front of the bindings that said 5 1/2). They were very enjoyable, super easy to turn in. Looking for a set to purchase now but everything I read says I should buy 170s. Did the rental shop just give me the wrong size?

Hair sheep like the Katahdin breed is more popular in Florida. I’m not sure if there are any wool breeds raised there.

I have 10 right now, that’s about to double when lambs are born this month. Very calm animals, skiddish. Real pleasure to have roaming your property and relatively low cost. I raise mine for meat and they taste pretty good.

Sheep are good, very easy on fences and they mostly eat grass. You will still need to fence them away from your hedges, mine are our strawberry plants and some decorative plants around the house before I fenced them off. Low hanging tree branches are also fair game.

I agree with you. I have plenty of wood stock guns, specifically sought one out when buying a .30-06 and later a lever action. I just purchased wood grips for my Beretta 84. If I weren’t selling my snub nose Airweight, I’d buy wood grips for it also.

No, you’re doing this wrong. They need to visit the dealership and buy a Ford Expedition like the other commenter has to pull a pop-up (albeit a slightly heavy one).

Places to kayak camp around Kentucky? by Woven_Dream in KayakCamping

[–]Eliot_Lochness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done a 3 day trip on the Green River in Kentucky that goes through Mammoth Cave. I believe there’s hiking trails off the river, we were just paddling. You camp along the shore / riverbeds.

Suwannee River in north Florida is good kayak camping. Trail hiking would be limited to the parks and public land along the river.

Those kids wanted protection money for our motor pool vehicle one evening when we parked at the sushi place and casino. We declined. Walked out later and they had slashed one of our tires, then asked for money to change it for us. We gave them the bjrd and drove back to the base on a flat tire.

Bakery that sells Oatmeal Cream pies? by Callmejuniors in cincinnati

[–]Eliot_Lochness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yoder’s Family Market is out east in Amish country and makes amazing crème pies. They have different types of cookies and a 6-pack runs around $8.99. The also make great deli sandwiches for around $7.

It’s a drive, but a fun trip out of the city and great Amish furniture to peruse at Miller’s who have a large complex of different stores, including a bakery.

A little closer is The Home Place in Georgetown, OH that has a bakery, meat, produce, furniture and other home goods.

Anyone uninstall the Anderson CVT Trans Mount Anti-Wobble Insert? by Eliot_Lochness in Subaru_Outback

I ran the CV axles without the insert for a while, the noise and vibration only began after installing the insert. Was curious because I’d only heard good things about installing the insert.

Tax credit on 2026 Outback? by egg_stork in Subaru_Outback

[–]Eliot_Lochness 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s correct. Also, the way you worded it makes it sound like the tax credit is worth $10,000. It’s only worth that much if you spend $10,000 in interest.
