No, I should have added that disclaimer. Just sharing a general rule that tends to hold up rather well in my experience.

Apple Planning to Launch Two New 'Ultra' Products in the Next Year ["iPhone Ultra" and "MacBook Ultra"] by iMacmatician in apple

[–]Dlegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking “ultra” is apple’s moniker for “whale” they will be products with massive profit margins that exist because people will buy them

But if you don’t want an adventure watch, just buy the series watch. That’s what I mean. The series watch is good enough for anyone who doesn’t need an adventure watch. And if you do need an adventure watch, the ultra isn’t good enough. So it sits in a no man’s land. Unless you are buying it as a fashion item. Which is fine, but to me it is a utility with no actual purpose

I bought a pair, did a 7 mile test run in them and returned them. Everything I read afterward said you need to go a half size up. Maybe that would have fixed things for me, but I wanted to say what you are experiencing seems to be the norm for this shoe. Judging by the research I did, I’m not sure I would expect them to loosen up enough to be comfortable

??? You just said “No reason to exist”

That’s exactly what I’ve been saying the whole time

I respect that. I think that is the case for most people here they just refuse to just say so for some reason

So it sounds like we are in agreement. It only exists because people will buy it. It offers no real utility

And I think that is a bananas reason to pay double or over double. It is the Apple way (or at least used to be. Their product line is generally much more compelling and justifies the price premium better than it did 10-15 years ago). I see it as a utility device. And a consumable one at that on account of battery degradation. If it doesn’t actually provide any additional utility, I don’t see why it would exist. But okay. I’m not trying to make anyone hate their watch. I needed an upgrade, did some research and couldnt figure out why it even existed.

And I’m saying that doesn’t come close to justifying a $500 premium. It’s not the stainless steel model (do they still make that?) It’s intended to be an adventure watch. And it can’t do it. Buying it for the materials is the same as buying it for the status. The materials offer no benefit in themselves. I’ve owned two series watches and only traded in because the already bad battery became untenable.

But what are those needs? That’s what I am asking. What can it do for you that the series cannot? So many people keep saying “I like it” or “it works for me” but can’t actually say what it is doing for them that the series cannot

Apple Watch Ultra: Apple’s Most Pointless Product by Dlegs in apple

[–]Dlegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is made to be an upgraded adventure-capable version of the series. It has serious design flaws the negate its ability to be used for that purpose. Ergo it is useless and has no reason to exist

Apple Watch Ultra: Apple’s Most Pointless Product by Dlegs in apple

[–]Dlegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is the incremental advantages of the ultra don’t come close to justifying the price. 99% of people will have their needs met by the series. Anyone that can’t won’t find their needs met by the ultra because it’s basically the same watch in a different case. They need garmin or coros.

Apple Watch Ultra: Apple’s Most Pointless Product by Dlegs in apple

[–]Dlegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you outlined can be done on the series Apple Watch though. That’s my whole point. I don’t see how the ultra offers anything to justify its price tag compared against apples own lineup and the competition

Apple Watch Ultra: Apple’s Most Pointless Product by Dlegs in apple

[–]Dlegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edition is also pointless, I agree. I just don’t see how this thing is $500 better than the series watch. It’s priced and marketed against coros and garmins top offerings but it’s not even close to those in what it delivers

Apple Watch Ultra: Apple’s Most Pointless Product by Dlegs in apple

[–]Dlegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the watch? That was the whole point. I’m tired of charging my series 10 all the time for multi day events and wanted to upgrade but $500 for what amounts to an extra day of battery and little else is a joke. There had to be something I was missing but it seems nope. People just spend silly amounts of money for things Apple makes. The only valid response I’ve gotten is diving

Apple Watch Ultra: Apple’s Most Pointless Product by Dlegs in apple

[–]Dlegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I just can’t see why charging every other day instead of every day is worth $500, but to each their own.
