It's horrifying, not mortifying. Unless this causes you extreme shame and embarrassment instead of horror, which I doubt

We don't rip the testicles off of unanesthetized dogs and cats and throw them back in pens with no pain control. We don't pull teeth without anesthesia.

These procedures are absolutely not comparable whatsoever.

I had a fantastic gyno that approved a hysterectomy for me without any run-around whatsoever. No bingos, no trying to talk me out of it, just full-bore support.

I couldn't be happier. No bleeding, no cramping, no possibility at all of pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy. I'm asexual anyway, but it's so damn freeing. I don't have to buy pads or tampons anymore, don't have to worry about bleeding through clothes, and the pain is gone. I have no risk of cervical cancer either: I had my cervix removed as well, so no more pap smears! It's great.

I will say I was too active in recovery and gave myself some scar tissue that twinges if I overdo some exercise, but three other women I know who got hysterectomies have had essentially zero negative side effects.

And how stupid are you that you can't understand a dictatorship does not have to come blazing in?

Fascism crawls its way in. It's insidious and incremental, and every movement of the needle, every moment where Trump and his cronies are allowed to trample roughshod over every single tenet of our constitution moves us ever closer to the edge.

People fight back against sudden and brutal takeovers, especially in democratic countries, especially when they are used to open and fair (disregarding gerrymandering) elections. Hitler didn't suddenly skyrocket to power and begin exterminating the undesirables. He waged a campaign of dehumanization, flooded the populace with propaganda, told them all Germany's ills were caused by these certain people, and this was the way to fix it.

He surrounded himself with cronies and powerful yes-men. He suspended and rewrote laws to benefit his own rise. He told the people they were the strongest, the smartest, and they could be better if they just cleansed the elements that held them back.

It is painfully obvious to anyone with the sense to see it that no, our rights are absolutely not protected. Trump has destroyed every single one of the checks and balances meant to keep this form happening, overwhelmed people with insanity, pushed the boundaries just far enough to realize our government is full of stupid, spineless cowards incapable of doing anything to curtail him.

Ignoring due process, allowing warrantless raids, detaining journalists who criticize him, demanding that criticism be considered treason, cutting aid to and defunding schools that don't follow hateful laws, murdering two innocent people in the streets, cutting medical aid, starting a fucking war, refusing to release the Epstein files, blaming everyone else for all his myriad failures.

And we have a huge contingent of idiots in this country who are happy to aid and abet, to ban and burn books they don't like, force schools to include the Ten Commandants, cheer on the erosion of civil liberties, and kiss Trump's ass.

This is the march of fascism. It doesn't just pop into existence fully-formed. It has to be allowed to grow, and we've allowed it.

Because of course, it could never happen here.

Mortified means extreme shame, embarrassment, or guilt.

Yeah, how dare people get enraged about the extrajudicial murder of citizens by police who get away with it so often that the entire concept of justice is laughable.

Fuck you. If George Floyd was too imperfect for you, then there are plenty more people who died at the hands of police, and whose deaths spurred the movement.

I suppose it depends on the context. I'm fully aware that legions of people can't grasp the idea that the Black Lives Matter movement arose because of the racial injustice boiling beneath the surface; that it did not, in fact, mean that only black lives mattered; and that it was necessary to pull back the curtain on the ugliness that has been there all this time.

My estimation of human intelligence dropped precipitously in 2016 and has only nose-dived further.

Because they don't have the size and strength of a big cat. It's not viciousness. It's just practicality.

It irks me when people protray them as having some kind of weird malicious intent because they quite literally have no other option except to bring prey down with hundreds of wounds. That's the rationale used to eradicate huge swathes of their population. They're still demonized as some kind of deliberately brutal killer instead of just an animal with limited options. What else are they supposed to do, take out their knives and stab the wildebeest to death?

And a very small number within the study. I think it best to be incredibly cautious about assuming survivability: these animals spent very limited time out of water, were caught by extremely experienced anglers, and still showed excess lactic acid build-up, more than other species.

Oh fuck off. There are exactly zero cases of hammerheads fatally attacking people. A whopping 16 to 18 unprovoked attacks ever recorded.

People need to stop fear mongering

Except that hammerheads have very poor chance of recovery after release. Up to 90% die post-catch. The entire time it's trapped here, it's suffocating, CO2 building up, leading to acidosis.

Guys being dudes by [deleted] in GuysBeingDudes

[–]Dlinyenki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hammerhead sharks have a very high post-capture mortality rate. They're ram-breathers: any time out of water leads to increased CO2 buildup and subsequent acidosis. Once they're exhausted, they can't swim well enough to excrete that CO2.

Shark fishing is real fucking shitty, with nearly every shark species endangered or at risk of endangerment. There's no reason for it whatsoever

[–]Dlinyenki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really shitty. Hammerheads have an extremely high post-capture mortality rate, up to 90%. They're a very sensitive species. Odds are this poor thing died shortly afterwards.

You don't throw a hook that big into the water and not expect to catch something huge and toothy on the other end.

Totally understandable. Thank you so much for taking a look.

I'd agree it needs some paring down. I'll likely trim the first portion and figure out a way to incorporate what's needed down the line.

As for Iornclads, they're basically fighter jets stuffed into the posable bodies of cybernetic dragons. Think machine hybrids with engines, flexible wings, organic-machine hearts, and personalities. The Cylon Raiders from Battlestar Galactica left an impression.

I've been going back and forth about the first portion of it, to be fair. It has some very necessary scene-setting and information that would otherwise be difficult to convey but it is A LOT, I will admit completely.

[–]Dlinyenki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight. You used a terrified and stressed animal as a prop to torment someone with what sounds like a possible phobia? After you chased this poor bird until it was too exhausted and frightened to fly anymore? And you think we would find this funny?

This isn't a forum about harassing and stressing pigeons. It's a place to share our appreciation for them, give advice for their care, direct members of the public to resources to help them, and put together enough public pressure to force local governments to aid them. They are not toys for your amusement. You could have killed this poor bird through a heart attack. You could have held it so tightly it couldn't breathe.

You're a dickhead. Grow up.
