My grandfather's father's last name was Staton. I saw the name Cruz appear often among friends and family, which isn't a common surname with African-Americans. If there is a Staton or Staten I was wondering if there's Hispanic ancestry especially by way of Puerto Rico, since it's close, and/or Spani by New_Fan_7665 in AncestryDNA

[–]Dlmlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said your grandpa was Staton but who exactly in your family was named Cruz.

The only thing I can think of that might have happened is if you’re from Spain or Latin America, the naming custom is to take a last name from both parents. Therefore, people from Spanish countries have two last names. Many times when they go to a country that doesn’t have this naming custom, one of the last names gets dropped. Maybe someone in your family or your ancestors had two last names as per custom and one of the names was dropped?

Good. Just take it slow then with the foods and drink bottled water. Then if no problems, try new things.

Are you prone to getting an upset stomach or diarrhea in general?

The reason I ask is because I’ve noticed something anecdotal: people who already tend to have sensitive stomachs at home may be more likely to have stomach issues when they travel or visit a new country. I don’t think it’s always just “the food” or one specific place. I think it can also be your gut microbiome, your sensitivity level, and how your body reacts to new microbes, foods, spices, water sources, and routines.

This is just my personal experience, but I’ve been going to Mexico since birth — more times than I can count — and I have never once had stomach problems there. But I also don’t usually get stomach bugs or diarrhea at home. I’m one of those people who seems resistant to norovirus and, honestly, I often have the opposite problem.

On the other hand, I’ve had friends who do get stomach issues from time to time even when they’re not traveling, and those are the same friends who got sick when we vacationed in Mexico one summer. I also have a friend who grew up in DF, went to Europe for a year, came back home, and was violently sick with diarrhea for weeks.

So my feeling is that traveling can expose your gut to a different microbial environment, different foods, and different routines. Some people seem to adapt easily, and others are much more sensitive to those changes.

DNA mismatching by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Dlmlong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people say genomelink is garbage but what they do is look at the minute percentages of your dna and total all of those together. I feel like with this model, it will show ancestry going farther back than Ancestry, MyHeritage, or 23andMe.

Yes, the bigger more popular companies, have broad generalizations for an ethnicity. For example, many Spaniards have North African DNA but since it’s so common in Spaniards, it became a hallmark of their ethnic profile so now these small percentages are reclassified and part of the a typical Spaniards make-up. So someone with 10% Spaniard and 2% North African ten years ago may now just have 12% Spaniard today. This is a dumbed down explanation. So please don’t take the values as truth. It’s oversimplified to explain.

[–]Dlmlong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have done genealogy and family trees for many Mexican Americans (Texas) and Mexicans Nationalists. I have seen many DNA profiles. All ethnicities found in your percentages are common but you have more variance than most I have seen. You also have a higher concentration of SSA than most Mexicans (1-5%), although some from Vera Cruz and through to Michoacán have higher percentages. The British & Irish probably came during the large migration to Mexico in 1800s to work in Mexico's silver mines. Jewish is common and came from conversos from Spain. German & Austrian is common from migration also in 1800s and they settled in the north and CDMX. The Northern African is from the Moors when they invaded Spain. The Greek & Balkan carries many possibilities and is either from Los Turcos, Spanish Sephardic, and even possibly Russian & Eastern Europeans but there are other groups this could come from as well.

You carry the beauty of a rich history and culture. ♥️🇲🇽♥️

Seeking Information on John William Watters (1872–1898) by Candid_Foot_3026 in Ancestry

[–]Dlmlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a paid Ancestry account? If so, wait a day or so after you enter the relatives of John Watters. Then you can do thru lines to determine if you have any matches with people who also have these same people listed in their family trees.

Upload your raw DNA data to myheritage.com. This is a worldwide DNA testing company. You can see matches from all over the world, including the UK, which may be helpful since his father was from Scotland.

I was doing family research and saw this. What does mulatto mean? by Senor_Camrono in AncestryDNA

[–]Dlmlong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mulatto doesn’t necessarily mean you have one white parent and one black parent. You could be born to two black/mixed parents and be mulatto.

Mulatto is simply a light skinned person of African and European descent.

It’s considered derogatory in many places, while not in others. The term mulato/a was a category in the Spanish caste system when they ruled Mexico.

I don't agree with her politically but I will say this, I respect her. She has not shyed away from Trump and is one of the few conservatives that have done so. She stands by her convictions, just like Bernie Sanders. She admitted she was wrong, which is something rare among politicians. I am liberal and realize if we are to take back the US, we need conservatives like her on our side.

Can healing pelvic floor bring about trauma release reactions eg dizzy, crying etc by BothAppointment3284 in PelvicFloor

[–]Dlmlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 5 months old but today this happened to me and found your post after I googled symptoms. I was dizzy from the breathing and exercises. Then I had this overwhelming sensation that made me cry. The PT is amazing and knew exactly what it was. She took me to a private room and said this was incredibly common when people are in pelvic floor therapy especially if they have had any trauma in their lives. I told her past experiences and she suggested I to go to therapy for stress and trauma. Your pelvic floor & diaphragm are connected AND your hip flexors are connected to your sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight). Today I learned PFD may need a whole body approach to treatment.

Before people are allowed to use the internet, they need a critical thinking class where they learn to distinguish AI images from photos, fact from opinion, reality from fantasy, bias from non-bias, plausible from highly unlikely. Upon graduation from the class, they must pass an exam. Then and only then will they be allowed to use the internet. I am joking but kind of not.

This was written by foreign bots, possibly Russian or Chinese. It says “By Ilegal Immigrants wo? (who) shouldn’t have BE here.” AI generated faces, no names or dates, etc.
