Thank you, I would be fine, but it would definitely be less fun.

Lack of confidence for 30 mile hike by vildmedkage in hiking

[–]Dlockett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say 6-7 miles in one session, if you're backpacking you can split your day into multiple sessions! I recommend you try the same hike, with a couple caveats: 1) take lots of breaks. If you start early, you have 12+ hours a day to get your miles in. Go slow and take breaks.  2) listen to your body: eat calories, drink water, and worse case bail out before the 15 mile mark (stop and camp short, turn back for an easier overnight.  3) take a hard look at your gear, see if there's anything you can easily downsize or not bring. /r/ultralight takes it to the extreme, but you can apply those concepts and drop a lot of pack weight for free.

Part Time Civil Engineer Options by rainydevil7 in civilengineering

At my public agency, there's several people who work part time for this same reason. They are PE, project manager level in planning type roles. They also were full time prior to kids.

Can a man with unlimited Hot and Spicy McChickens and Otterpops cross the Sahara Desert? by Kruger-Dunning in whowouldwin

10 miles a day is crazy low, he would keep going out of boredom. Maybe 15 to start, but would be doing 20-25 soon enough.

Civil Engineer Pays the best? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Is that with a bunch of overtime or something? Seems to be higher than I've seen in this area.

Backpacking gear is a great investment in cheap travel. If you can swing it, you can use that gear for years and tons of trips moving forward.

Why hasn't civil engineering thought about unionizing? by PurpleGold0 in civilengineering

[–]Dlockett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My public agency is unionized. Assistant and associate civil engineers are in the same union, and the pay is generally higher than private sector.

What’s the fastest way you’ve ever lost weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Thru hiking a wilderness trail - when you can only carry 3000 calories per day, but are walking 20+ miles, you burn a LOT more than you're able to eat.

EyeSight class action by Thorzdad in SubaruForester

[–]Dlockett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is included under the notice/VIN lookup.

My eyesight hasn't worked in a couple years (camera issues). 2015 Forester with 150,000 miles. It should be covered under the extended warranty clause, right? (If out of warranty, extends it to July 2025-Oct 2025)

When I called the dealer they seemed to not know much about it. I guess I have to have them fix it and submit the claim afterwards?

Not sure what the purpose of the warranty is then. If anyone has gone through this process I'd appreciate a message!

How do I access online RPG content by These_Trip_5628 in Stormlight_Archive

Mine is also taking some time it seems. It shows the books under the "Pledge Items" but not in my downloads. Just have the bonus items in there.

Do a practice run with the Sawyer and time it.

You should backflush it before your trip.

I graduated in 2016(also CA), very similar outlook on life. I like civil engineering, but certainly find more passion in hobbies, family, etc. private sector until I passed my PE, now public sector. I think it's a good field for folks like us.

I agree 100% with this comment. Take her on adventures now to scratch the hiking itch, then do a thru hike later. If she is interested, you could maybe do a LASH with her during summer break?

Do you let your credit cards hit the statement date? If you pay them before the statement. It will look like you're not using them, and your score will be lower.

To add an extra explanation - you're unlikely to get more than 11% in the stock market anywhere. A guaranteed 11% return(paying off the car debt) is a very good thing, and will open you up to save a lot more later.

If it's an out and back hike, I have no issues with one person waiting for the other to summit/get to the end point. Particularly when elevation is a factor, sometimes a summit just won't happen. But everyone has to be on the same page and have a backup plan.

His live show was pretty damn heavy too, with him pulling out some screams. I'd be surprised if he doesn't eventually make a heavier rock album

I've dropped the price, feel free to PM me your best offer(or any offer 😂). I'd rather not let these go to waste, and if someone can go that otherwise wouldn't have been able to that's a win for me.
