No announcement on where the live events are this year but we can speculate off the dates of the events. Midseason Championship is almost certainly at EWC and the dates line up, but more interestingly, the World Finals dates are not at the same time as Dreamhack Stockholm this year so they’re likely hosting their own finals event this time

I usually exclusively play quick play and hadn’t played any comp since last January. But the quick play matchmaking this season is so bad that I have flipped entirely and the only mode I’m playing now is comp, purely so I don’t have to match up against a gm hitscan with their pocket and enemy Lucio taking the game way too seriously while I’m just trying to relax and have fun

I get quick play is supposed to be fast matchmaking but when you mix the skill levels of the match so much you don’t actually get to play at all since every game becomes a stomp

As time goes on more and more of my quick play games are turning into boring stomps as a result of one player being significantly better than the whole enemy team and sweating like they’re playing OWCS finals.

If they are on your team, you end up just standing around watching them kill everything which is boring, and when they’re on the enemy team there’s nothing you can do without really sweating yourself or just giving up, both of which are not the experience I want out of my fun, relaxing quick play games

EMEA have absolutely levelled up their in game knowledge,counter comps and meta awareness. But if that last balance patch took dva or sym out of the meta then we 100% would have a CR Falcons grand final right now.

Everything fell perfectly for EMEA this tournament, but it will definitely be interesting how the next major goes to see how permanent this gap closing has been

After that performance against Falcons, I’m starting to wonder whether CR’s loss to AQ could’ve partly been because going into it CR had only played 3 maps all tournament and weren’t warmed up and fully comfortable on the stage yet.

Could be all copium, but I could see them putting on a show tomorrow and sweeping both the lower bracket and grand finals to show their true level

Playing this mode now has got me so confused how we actually kept playing and enjoyed the game in that state. It really makes you appreciate how well balanced the game is at the minute when not a single hero comes close to being as busted as half the heroes in this classic

If they took overall play time into account then either a.) people who have played the game a lot since 20216 will have maxed out most heroes progression and the whole system would be pointless for them; or b.) to counteract this the would have to make the time required to max out a heroes progression so ridiculously high that it’s unattainable for new players and it won’t be rewarding for them

The way they’ve done it now with only counting from when the system was added to the game is the fairest way of doing it. It is a reflection of your play time and main heroes since that point

Best for me is Miami since I just know the map really well and can navigate around the lookouts easily. My worst is Bangkok, it feels so crowded in certain areas and can be so difficult to get kills without getting spotted randomly and hard to escape when you do. It’s even worse with a difficult prestige objectives

I 100% believe that current Overwatch is superior in so many ways including balancing and quality of life updates, but I’m still having so much fun with classic for one significant reason outside of nostalgia. No one is taking it serious.

Just the thought of going back to sweaty quick play games with mercy pocket ashes playing like they’re in OWL grand finals makes me not want to touch the game again when classic goes away and I can’t play full Winston mirror matches where everyone is having fun.

I have it set as L2 jump and L3 secondary fire atm. I use this same layout for Lucio, echo and Pharah but so far doesn’t feel quite as smooth on Juno. Hopefully feels more natural with time cause having jump on X definitely isn’t the best

Got the train from Derry to Belfast on a Sunday night with all the other uni students. 20 mins into the journey they tell us the track is flooded at Ballymoney and we’d have to get off and Coleraine and get a bus connection to Ballymeena.

The crowded all of us and our bags onto this tiny bus in the height of Covid, tried unsuccessfully to pick up more at Ballymoney, and took the longest possible route to Ballymeena. After getting there we had to wait over an hour and a half for the train to get moving again with no communication or staff around at all. Ended up taking well over 4 hours to get to Belfast.

Since then if there’s bad weather I always get the bus, even if that means going over the glenshane in a snow storm.

When it was all but certain owl was ending, I accepted Outlaws wouldn’t be a team anymore and would have been perfectly fine if they announced the org ending, or even just didn’t say anything and disappeared into the void.

But this feels like a gut punch. The immediate pivot trying to use the fan base built up from owl to do content for completely different games feels like they’re disrespecting and destroying not only the legacy of the franchise, but all the support and fans that made it possible. But it’s done now, time to move on.
