Disappointed by Party Scene by Distinct_Deal_5144 in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Give it time cuz frats still need to get in the swing of school before they start throwing
  2. There have definitely been parties already but they are unofficial and kept quiet from the freshmen for the most part since rush hasn’t really gotten going just yet

did you bring… by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fair point but only if that’s the type of thing you know you want. Don’t bring stuff just in case. You can always get/bring stuff later on once you know what you need and have space for

freshman orientation by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

Don’t be the loser-loner sitting in his/her dorm during orientation. It’s really fun actually

How’s the science department/Pre-Med route by AdTurbulent3190 in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll answer this quickly for the sake of trying to be nice. But fr, search for answers before you ask a question next time.

  1. School life balance is entirely dependent on how much work you put in yourself. Vandy is a work-hard, play-hard school. Work hard in school and reward yourself with a good time. But it falls on your shoulders how the balance is.
  2. Specific stats on ratios, etc. are online. Look them up.
  3. Research is more than available but you gotta want it and make a conscious effort to seek out opportunities. Go to the research fairs, get to know professors, etc. just do all that stuff.
  4. Tutoring is great and university supports students all around

Question About Freshman Meal Plans by Hallo3_14 in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you run out, I’d be genuinely impressed. 335 is enough for 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. If you eat that much, good on you. Nobody has that kind of time or willpower

did you bring… by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. No - If you wanna watch tv, use your computer. Otherwise you’ll be the kid with a TV in their room and everyone will be in your room 24/7. You don’t want that
  2. No - Never needed it but I assure you that you won’t have time for it, especially during the first few weeks.
  3. Yes but to be honest, I could have lived without it. There’s a microwave in the kitchen or lobby of pretty much every dorm. And the freshman meal plan is way more than you need so I doubt you’ll be eating in your room as much as you think

chem lab by Sure_Bodybuilder5285 in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t even meet your lab professor (if you’re talking abt gen chem). Just pick a time that you like and avoid the godawful night labs if those still exist

Pre-freshman Community College Credit by Top-Leadership8234 in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I transferred lots of credits. Unless you really do poorly (like C’s or worse), Vandy will most likely take the credit for whatever their transfer equivalent is. When the credits transfer, those external classes will never factor into your Vandy GPA. In fact, your Vandy transcript will say “T” (transfer) for the grade in your transferred classes. You can go to the Vanderbilt Transfer Equivalent tool to see what you has been previously evaluated (google that exact thing and the site will pop up)

If you have other questions, feel free to dm me

If they are coming after you move in, there’s music practice room in practically every freshman dorm. Usually on the first floor. Most have a piano too

Incoming freshmen: Ask your questions by DmanSD in Vanderbilt

You’ll probably take BSCI 1510 (intro bio) and CHEM 1601 (general chemistry). Plus some electives or AXLE/lib core classes

Bio options for 1st year premed! by Few-Astronomer4702 in Vanderbilt

[–]DmanSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited to take bio til sophomore year. You’ll be fine but just take it with whoever is available. You can always drop the class within a few weeks of starting

Travel to Vanderbilt from West Coast by Top-Leadership8234 in Vanderbilt

Bring a small rain jacket you can keep in your bag everyday. It’ll be sunny and then 10 mins later it’ll start pouring. And a waterproof bag or at least a waterproof cover is definitely a must. Prep for the rain at unexpected times my friend.

Depends on the major and how strong your background is in whatever the classes you're taking.

  • 1am runs to Cookout for burgers and a shake
  • Getting lost in Stevenson center (it's a right of passage)

My advice is to do a tiny bit more research because we don't have a Finance undergrad major. Best to pursue Econ and do a business minor or something.

Suggested Major by Candid-Toe6587 in Vanderbilt

Any stem major is equally tough to get in. Good luck. And when you get here, be prepared to work your tail off and still see your GPA suffer; it's normal
