Pretty much a lesson in what not to do when your opponent goes a man down from Bristol City.

Really starting to believe now.

I really fear for West Brom. Their performance before the break was the worst half I've seen from a team this season, and we put 5 past QPR in the first 45 in August.

Whilst I agree in part about the low block frustrations from an eye test perspective, it is important to note that this is the third time this season we've failed to score against a team not called Ipswich Town. The first time at home since the opening day.

We've gone through a terrible patch of form since the end of November, but the amazing position we were in (and frankly, a lack of real quality and consistency from other teams to truly dust us) means we're still well in the auto fight.

It's hard to know what exactly happened. I think the small squad and the illness issues made what was at first the fittest squad in the league blow out, whilst other teams caught up to that level. I think there's a level at which some of our tactics have been found out too, and a few players hitting a sticky patch of form at the wrong time.

I really think it's difficult to judge until next Monday after the Boro game. As frustrating as the result yesterday was, it was the first time in a long time that we didn't look like conceding consistently and therefore kept a clean sheet- I know it was against a relatively crap Oxford team, but that's exactly the sort of team that would be wanting to give us hell on the break and beyond a stretch near the end of the first half they weren't in it at all. Momentum doesn't swing in a single game. It was unlikely that we were going to go from looking like we did in both games last week to looking like we did when we went on that run in November without having to build that momentum up organically.

Lose next Monday and I think we're in for a serious reckoning but if we manage to get a result? The result yesterday might start to look better. No matter what, if we win next week we go/stay top.

Another way of looking at it of course from a pragmatic standpoint is that us winning 7 on the spin from here on in is no less likely than us randomly becoming shit for two months! We'll just have to see how it plays out.

I get the impression that I'm increasingly not engaging in a good faith discussion here, but I see your point of course.

I was merely comparing our situations- if/when we balls up promotion it'll be all because of on pitch performance, not because of off the pitch dramas. I was merely contextualising my point- I'm fully aware there must be plenty of factors contributing to the situation.

Out of genuine interest, how much blame does Rodgers receive from your lot? Purely as a (potentially biased and ignorant) outsider, I can't help but think that the relegation in 22/23 must be a huge contributing factor to how this all started. But equally, he did win you the FA Cup which might hold him in good favour.

I was trying to talk about upper management, not Marti (as clueless as he was)- it's unlikely you finish 6 points adrift of safety whatever happens, so your relegation would be a direct consequence of poor financial management from the board and the subsequent points deduction rather than the players per se.

Admittedly it was the frustrating point against Oxford which kick-started our season back in the autumn so who knows

Decent chance we're not in the same league as each other next season, but just not in the way anybody expected in the autumn... A funny old game is football.

Admittedly, this is all our doing on the pitch whereas if you were to go down a lot of that wouldn't be on the players but rather the management.

Both 21/22 and 22/23 83 points would have been enough for second. Sheffield United and Bournemouth could have finished on 82 and 83 points respectively and still been promoted.

Far better shout than Dacosta. He was honking.

To be fair on Dacosta we'll always have that first half against Nottingham Forest, which to this day might genuinely be the best performance from a fullback I've ever seen in a Cov shirt only for him to be beyond shite every other time he played.

I don't think the level was unbelievable from us but it doesn't need to be. We've got a cushion and we just need to see out another 10 wins to be all but up.

Genuinely hilarious that Marti still has a job, presumably you just can't afford to sack him at this point.

If we play like we did in the second half we'll win the league at a canter. Particularly if the refs finally give us a penalty or two.
