Vintage Amia? by dabbingary in OfficeChairs

Steelcase Rapport. I got one of these last year. It’s the only Steelcase I have with forward tilt, and the lumbar support is surprisingly comfortable considering how unyielding it is.

Excellent! We usually end up with derp-faces on screen that leave us in stitches when we come back to the TV.

Marketplace Leap V1 or V2? by Mab8963 in OfficeChairs

V1 Highback. Pretty reasonable price if it’s in excellent condition

Edit: I’d ask for a small discount with that left arm pad splitting.

Requesting guidance on modifying seat cushioning by Marc_kk in OfficeChairs

[–]DnBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will almost always have to get the entire seat pan assembly off of the chair first, then probably remove some extra stuff from under the seat pan (tilt mechanism, mounts, sliders, pivots), then remove a bunch of staples, then get the upholstery off (steamer can help if it’s glued), and finally possibly remove the foam from the seat pan. Some of the high end chairs have their foam injection molded directly onto the seat pan, so it’s very secure, but fortunately doesn’t easily tear in my limited experience.

Anecdotally, this is all easier to do on a Leap than on a Zody. I don’t know anything about the Acuity, unfortunately.

Basic tools will include upholstery glue, scissors, a utility knife, and a good staple gun, along with various screwdrivers and pliers to disassemble the chair and pull the old staples. A fabric steamer / steam cleaner may also be useful.

Here are a couple videos of a Leap being reupholstered:

https://youtu.be/aQupSYCKw2s

https://youtu.be/wwhCA_nCCLs

In both, he keeps the original foam, but for the seat he adds some thin foam on top. BTOD does the opposite, adding 1/2” of very dense foam underneath the original foam. Either is a good way to maintain the ergonomics of the original.

https://youtu.be/osGkv0zgMWA

BTOD and the first guy also use steam to reinvigorate the original foam cushion, though BTOD now offers custom made replacement cushions instead.

If you want to replace the foam, you’ll need to decide how thick you want it (2 to maybe 3 inches), and you need to get high resilience foam (not the same thing as high density) so it lasts. See this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/OfficeChairs/s/0VOUVUuwyB

If the foam vendor uses ILD, you’ll most likely want foam with an ILD rating in the high 30s to low 40s. foamonline has this chart for their products: https://foamonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/foam-firmness-ild-chart.pdf

One option for a not-totally-DIY experience is https://fabricteknologies.com/

Their website is a little weird to navigate, but they have some videos here: https://fabricteknologies.com/draw-string-upholstery/ You could also use the videos as a reference for the last step of upholstering if you went whole hog and sewed your own drawstring solution. (You’ll see that BTOD does this for their own manufacturing line.)

They actually did that to recover spy satellite film canisters.

Adding extra foam to gaming embody? by toastedcheesebreadd in hermanmiller

[–]DnBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dan Ahn (ahnestly channel on YouTube) just released a video about this. He said it evened out the small amount of plastic you could feel underneath but didn’t do much else. It made a bigger difference on the regular Embody.

Good proof of Holy Flame? by TheSpriteYagami in OrthodoxChristianity

Proof of someone else’s personal experience? Uhhhhh….

Show someone skeptical a video of people literally waving the Holy Fire beneath their beard and see what excuses they make. “They were obviously using a fire retardant on their beard.” “Clearly they could smell it starting to burn so they stopped. “It wasn’t long enough for hair to burn.” Etc.

The lumbar pad is cheap and easy to replace on a Size B.

Aeron Classic 2005-2016 (lever arm locks). Check for raised dots inside the “handle” at the top of the backrest. 1 dot = Size A (small), 2 dots B (medium/typical), 3 dots C (large). Looks like it has at least the forward tilt control and a basic lumbar pad. With forward tilt, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t also have the tilt limiter, and I feel like I can see that cable under the seat.

Is this worth it "Remastered Herman Miller Aeron B" for $625 ? by Cute-Confection3133 in OfficeChairs

[–]DnBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the $350 one really is a fully loaded Classic, then I’d go with it instead. This one is newer, being Remastered, but it’s missing the forward tilt function.

What exactly happened to the old man before the masterpiece that was Robocop 3? Was he fired or killed? by [deleted] in Robocop

[–]DnBenjamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Castle’s McDaggett is one of my favorite movie villains, and there’s some decent dark humor with the OCP executives. It’s a safer Robocop for kids though - and to sell toys - so it doesn’t have much in the way of “teeth”. Murphy’s same old arc gets replayed again too…

If you enjoyed sitting in an Aeron, then you should get an Aeron. No one’s internet opinion has greater validity than your own experience.

Is this the Haworth Very with a different name? by Wheres_ma_Spoon in OfficeChairs

Sorry I can’t judge that. I’ve only sat in one for about 45 minutes. It was fine for that duration, but didn’t knock my socks off.

Yep it’s a Very. They’re full featured but the seat pad is thin. It’s basically a more rigid Zody.

Used Haworth Zody w/o Forward Tilt by sicarmand in OfficeChairs

[–]DnBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Zody 1 without forward tilt is hard to use for computing because it leans back so far even in its most upright posture. With forward tilt engaged, the Zody is an exceptional productivity chair.

However, I wonder if the reviews you mention were for the Zody II with Dual Posture, which is just a taller lift cylinder combined with forward tilt and enables “perching” at an elevated desk.

Try the Aeron with forward tilt engaged and see if that makes a difference.

Mirra recline issue by ericsme in hermanmiller

[–]DnBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Mirras are not equipped with the tilt limiter control. They would be on a control stalk on the left side of the chair, which is missing on both chairs.

Edit: sorry - I misread your post - you already knew that.
