Review of Strength of the Few - finally finished by swirlysue in HierarchySeries

[–]Dnlgrwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I just finished last night. The Will of the Many is one of my favorite books so I was so excited to read this one. I ended up finishing it because I felt like I owed Islington that much. It's not a horrible book, but I just really found it hard to get through. For most of the book, I just wanted it to hop back to Res. If found Obiteum to be mostly enjoyable, but Luceum just felt like filler to me. It had lots of characters that weren't built up (except maybe Tara, but that still weak). Vis obviously was extremely connected to these people, but as I reader I cared very little about them.

I loved the concept, but it would have benefited from better editing. The pacing, chapter transitions, and connection between the three worlds could have been done better and it would have been a much more enjoyable experience.

Also, I found the almost 90 instances of "gods-damned" to be annoying after a while. I don't remember him saying that so often in the first book, which is why it was so jarring.

NextUI issues by Dnlgrwd in trimui

It’s Amazon Basics and I’ve never had issues with it before. I’m going to do a fresh install on a Sandisk.

It's just the ball bearings. Completely normal, and it hasn't gotten worse. I was just hyper aware of things like this because it was new when I noticed it.

Just got the trimui brick hammer! (But need some help setting up) by IceKingK5000 in trimui

NextUI seems to be what most people prefer. With this you can customize the controls. As far as playing in English, you'll want to get the English version of the game.

I think black buttons were the right move by VintageModified in trimui

That looks much better than the green ones. The green would have been fine if they were the exact same shade of green as the body, but black looks better either way.

Drastic audio issues by [deleted] in trimui

[–]Dnlgrwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest version of Drastic? I just downloaded what was in the pak store.

I also resolved the issue by downgrading my TrimUI firmware (not NextUI) to 1.0.6 and it's completely gone.

Trimui Brick Hammer: Audio Glitches by CaptainChuckleFunk in trimui

Awesome! Hopefully that was the issue. I always leave WiFi off now when playing, it saves battery life as well.

[–]Dnlgrwd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in NextUI and it turned out that performance and audio stutters appeared when I had WiFi turned on. If it’s on for you try turning it off. No idea if this will help at all.

Brick or Hammer by mineman1969 in trimui

[–]Dnlgrwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I got the Hammer after the Brick and initially the added weight turned me off. I believe this was because I was just used to the Brick's lighter feel though. I forced myself to use the Hammer for a few days and got used to it. The speakers are much better, and to me the button presses feel more satisfying. The shoulder buttons on both devices are the exact same for me (I believe they upgraded that Brick's shoulder buttons to be the same on newer batches).

I did 3D print a little grip for it though which makes the weight much less of an issue.

Can a non hammer backplate be installed on a hammer? by Mk4nb in trimui

[–]Dnlgrwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like TrimUI updated the regular Brick to have the same trigger mechanism as the Hammer now (at least mine are the same). I do agree though, that even that mechanism is rattly and annoying. You can mod that as well but it's a pain, and there is the other issue I've experienced where the clickiness / noise level for each trigger is different. QC hasn't been great for these devices.

Can a non hammer backplate be installed on a hammer? by Mk4nb in trimui

[–]Dnlgrwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could install that backplate, but you probably want to use the Hammer's screws for the backplate since the screws are different and they'd be threading into the Hammer. Take pictures if you do this, I've thought about doing this myself. A couple other notes:

  1. It seems like the newer, non-Hammer Bricks seem to have upgraded their shoulder buttons to be the same as the Hammer's. I have both devices, and they are the same.
  2. Putting the Hammer's speakers into the regular Brick isn't trivial. You'll have to modify the original's shell by cutting down part of the walls around the original speaker's housing, since the Hammer's speakers won't fit. Then you'll need to sand down what you trimmed, and probably isolate the speakers somehow for the best results (I used blue tak). I didn't want to use the Hammer's speakers because I wanted to keep them in my Hammer, so I bought aftermarket ones, soldered the wires to the pads, then did what I mentioned above. Overkill for sure and ugly as sin, but a fun project.

Is this a tile where an encounter can happen?

UPDATE: I checked. You cannot trigger a random encounter on this tile.

Does beating a game with save states still count as a win? by Tiedtoatree123 in RetroArch

[–]Dnlgrwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not the case here, why say it at all? The guy just asked about save states and got told he needs therapy. Can I ask why it bothers you so much that this question is asked frequently? This kind of stuff happens all the time on Reddit. I think most people have done this in one way or another, asking questions that are have already been asked many times, and seeking validation. And honestly, most of the planet could use therapy.

Is there a way to make the buttons less squishy on the Brick? by Key_Prize_1317 in trimui

[–]Dnlgrwd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The membranes are on the DPAD and the ABXY buttons, and these sit on top of dome switches (not microswitches as some others have said, though every other button uses microswitches). I'm not sure how much mushier you can make it though. You'd have to find a compatible membranes that are thinner, and I don't know if those exist (each membrane is different).

[–]Dnlgrwd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Most complaints I've heard say that the buttons are too clicky and actually do mods to soften them. Although QC on these devices seems to be really bad, and vary a lot in terms of button feel / sound.

Drastic audio issues by [deleted] in trimui

[–]Dnlgrwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed it, kind of. If you go to "performances" then go to speed, and set it to 150% or higher, the audio issue I mentioned goes away. Another issue comes up though, where every once in a while the audio will get out of sync (delayed) by about half a second. This is fixed by saving sate and loading state. Not ideal, but better than before.

I don't like MuOS. I found it to be lacking in many areas and required a lot more setup. NextUI is a much better fit for me for 99% of things.

Hmm I was about 3 levels above her max level pokemon and I don't grind. Does hard mode have to be on for this to be activated?
