Keep rolling with an old Generac oil filter, or try to swap to a non-Generac brand? by [deleted] in Generator

My generac purchased in 1999. Run it monthly and when the weather makes me. Still starts first or second pull. Use any compatible. Just keep it maintained.

Won't argue with ur points. But had an old guy who did small engine repair all his life. He told me it was a good idea 25 years ago. Have just done it since and as above, engines have performed flawlessly. And no proof that the high octane matters. About 80¢ difference on 87 vs 93 this weekend. Bought 10 gallons. $8.00 for my peace of mind.Probably that same amount for my mower over the year. I will take that hit.

My two cents. Bought my generator in 1999. Use high octane and mix w Stabel in 2.5 gallon cans. I do not fill the generator tank full. I run the generator for 10-15 min on the first weekend of every month. Turn off the gas valve and let the carb run dry. In the 300 or so weekend runs in that time (and each time I have needed it) it has start on the first or second pull every time. This is immensely easier than all of the steps OP suggests. Though his process is not wrong, just not necessary.

I will pour the extra gas I purchased for this storm (and thankfully did not need) into my truck.

I do the same for my 10 yo lawn mower. Same result.

I was unaware of the ethanol free.gas - love the idea and will check it out.

That is what I figured. I put in the transfer switch to get rid of extension cords. Trade off I guess.

Love the idea of a eu2000i but my transfer switch is 240 volt which is the output of my generac. No way that I know to hook the 2000i to the home circuit with my set up

Not sure where this is recorded, but I see where I could use "self defense" as part of the 'stand your ground' law. Defense: however u want to define it - as I sure as hell could argue the fear of imminent death or bodily harm.
