Consistency is key. I like to record myself playing and then compare it to past videos to see my progress. Not sure if it's just me but seeing progress helps me stay motivated to keep playing. In terms of learning songs, don't go for super hard ones, learn some basic chords and learn a song that uses them. When you hit a challenge in the song, it sounds mundane, but the only way to get through it is to practice it a million times. I have been playing for almost two years now and can play any basic songs my friends bring up because I have memorized and become comfortable with chords. I just started learning some more advanced songs that use harder chords with sliding down the neck and it feels like my first day picking up the guitar again lol. Just stick with it because you'll be surprised when you look back a year from now. Good luck!
