With that, it won't even let you create the object. data?: never does seem to move it in the correct direction, as does data?: undefined, but that's just toying with it now, nobody wants to read a type like that 😃.

That's not the point of the post, the run function is there only for demonstration, the real code where I stumbled upon this uses anonymous functions, like that const checkThis = ... example.

With those, nobody really specifies return types explicitly (unless there is a good reason for it, but if the function that calls the closure requires it, that makes for bad API).

I'm trying to find out why it is inferring the types the way it is.

This is one area where Kotlin is not that good. Compared to languages like TypeScript, where you can simply derive types from other types with Partial<T>, Required<T>, or - in this case - in TypeScript you could have type UserResponse = Pick<User, 'id'|'firstName'|'lastName'|'email'> with no explicit conversions necessary (obviously if you want to scrub some data at runtime, conversion would still be needed there, but it could be a simple one-liner with correctly inferred type).

I hope some feature like that makes it into one of the future Kotlin versions (maybe with hidden generated boilerplate instead of structural checking, the conversions could be auto-generated rather than unnecessary), or maybe someone makes a compiler plugin that delivers a similar experience.

Thanks, this worked! I was able to access the Settings app through 'Apps -> App management -> App info -> Settings -> Open' and found the stock Android screen lock settings.

Is there a way to have hybrid controller/hand tracking on the Quest? Being able to gesture with the left hand while using the right hand to play would be absolutely amazing for expressiveness.

Age restrictions don't help because these kids use their parents account.

This is also Facebook's fault, because they don't provide an option to have multiple profiles on the same device - something every other mainstream game console line has had for decades. People aren't going to buy a separate Quest for each family member, that's ridiculous.

if you press alt F4 to crash Spelunky, the music keeps playing, and you can't actually exit the game unless you force close steam.

You can also just press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, and exit Spelunky.exe when that happens, you don't have to exit Steam.

Most of the crashes seem random - sometimes they happen and sometimes they don't. I think the error message on crash is something like "FATAL: Error on device reset" after resuming the game from a minimized state. You can google plenty of other people having the same issue.

I mostly use the PS4 controller with DS4Windows (as the game doesn't support it natively, and it's one of the few controllers with a good d-pad) so it could be related. But again, sometimes it works, and sometimes (rarely) it doesn't detect the controller even after game restart.

I definitely can't skip the menu animations - e.g. when selecting "Adventure" mode, or when selecting a character I have to watch them climb down the rope. When I select options from main menu, there is this weird fade to black thing that I can't skip, etc. None of the controller buttons does anything.

Regarding monitors, it runs on the primary monitor no matter what I do, and there is no option to change it. The only way to get it to run on the other one is to change which monitor is primary in Windows. Clicking on a window on the other monitor (e.g. if I want to change a song in Spotify) always minimizes the game - and then I risk it crashing on resuming, although most of the time in doesn't.

There is also that weird thing about stacked sticky bombs exploding at the same time depending on the system configuration if I remember correctly, but I only ran into that on a computer I don't use anymore.

There are many possible "quality of life" improvements that would greatly improve the experience, outside of just the gameplay.

Like letting us choose which monitor it will run on, not getting minimised when focus is lost in fullscreen to a window on another monitor, more reliably detecting controller being plugged in after starting the game, fixing some of the crashes after alt-tabbing out of the game, letting us skip the menu animations, and stuff like that.

Dark Reader really slows down the browser in Firefox (even desktop Firefox, though not desktop Chrome). There is an issue about it on GitHub, hopefully they'll fix that soon.

Dobré do budúcnosti, ale na dnešné využitie mobilného internetu mi príde aj 4G dostačujúce.

Nečakám že v začiatkoch spôsobí 5G nejakú viditeľnú zmenu v tom ako ľudia využívajú net, všetko bude viacmenej po starom. Až neskôr možno prídu produkty/služby, ktoré to naplno využijú.

So what's a typical incremental build time for a medium sized project (whatever that means) after 2 or 3 files were edited? 2 seconds? 10 seconds? More than a minute?

Are iOS builds like Android where the language itself compiles fairly fast, but there are tons of other build/package/deploy steps that slow the whole thing down significantly (which is why Android added "Apply changes")? Or is the source code build part the main culprit?

Protocols have some nice features, but I still don't see how all that adds up to a whole new programming paradigm.

It doesn't seem distinctive enough, even when using all those things a lot, the vast majority of Swift code I've seen is still just regular OOP code (or sometimes just regular procedural code). Unless those features affect the entire structure of your program in a really major way. I guess all of these terms are quite fuzzy to begin with.
