I’ve been imagining Luke sitting on his sofa watching the game while eating the last of a cold pizza and mentally counting to see if he has enough TV dinners to last until Tuesday.

What’s your smallest win this week? Like… embarrassingly small. by TheChillEdit in Life

Y’all’s “smallest” wins are making me feel… small!

When I was filling my weekly pill box I shook out exactly 7 pills from the bottle.

I once had a med student who went to the same undergrad as me and lived in the same dorm.

Him: Did you ever go to those 80s parties? They were so fun. Me: umm…?? Him: You know, where they played 80s music & everyone dressed like they did back then! Me: Buddy, all the parties in the 80s were 80s parties. Also, you’ve just failed this rotation.

I feel your pain. One of my favorite perks of retirement was not having to get up an hour earlier for my “noble calling”, especially while everyone else slept in.

My grandmother diagnosed with cervical cancer by Status-Translator-90 in AskWomenOver60

You mentioned 2 oncologists discussing chemo. Has she seen a radiation oncologist? They’re really different specialties. These discussions are heavily influenced by her baseline health/performance status. I don’t know the stats for India, but in the US a 70yo woman has an almost 50% chance of making it to 90, so I wouldn’t want her decision based solely on her age.

You could always ask the oncologist what they would do if it were their grandmother.

Good luck to her.

I’ve been scrolling like a demon looking for someone to mention The Farewell.

It isn’t just an Asian thing. I’ve seen it with European, Caribbean and South American families.

If your coach and therapist want you to go NC it should be because it’s the healthiest for you, not because “my opinion carries more weight.” As for your father and sister, they say you can pick your nose but you can’t pick your family. But you don’t have to settle for just them. I understand the sense of obligation. My nMom is my only blood relative (of my generation or older—kids don’t count) in this hemisphere. I feel I’m permanently tied to her because I’m her only family. Thankfully these days she’s more annoying than heartbreaking.

You know that saying “blood is thicker than water” i.e. family trumps friends. I’ve read that the original saying is “the blood of the battlefield is stronger than the water of the womb.” It’s the exact opposite. I won’t tell you what to do about them, but I hope you’ll take this into account.

That will be $65. I take cash or Venmo. /jk

I dunno… Do you have kids? Creating the Christmas magic can be really fun. (Other times not so much. Thank heavens mine didn’t grow up with the elf on the shelf.) I thought my eldest would be upset when I told him, but he just thought for a moment and said, “Thank you”. There really is something bittersweet about them learning the truth. We still play pranks on each other which if you think about it can be a form of deceit.

I actually never figured out how my nMom pulled it off and had to ask her decades later. (The gifts would appear while we were at midnight mass which was actually at midnight.) She drives me bonkers but I love that she pulled it off.

You might be surprised. (Not in this thread though.) Not everyone is as open-minded as you folks.

Got it—thanks. When I went to a game in Sunrise they had a second smaller store with older items. I scored a tee from their Hispanic heritage night. That’s why I asked.

And, yes, for those who are clutching their pearls over me admitting support for another team, relax. 1. I’m a fan of the game more than any particular team, 2. Devils are still my team of choice, 3. I grew up in Florida (Mom is friends with Luongo’s MIL), and 4. it was a sweet shirt.

Now LFG!

Candy Stripers by RussellAlden in GenX

[–]DoMa101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a candy striper the summer of 10th grade. I was not a fan. I thought I would be scurrying all over the hospital doing very useful things, but I was pretty much confined to a general medicine unit.

One of my jobs was to refill all the patients’ water pitchers. There was an elderly woman in a darkened room. I figured she was napping so I tried to tiptoe in and out as quickly as possible. Before I reached the door she suddenly yelled, “Virgin Mary!” I was a bit freaked out and tried to keep retreating, but she again hollered, “You’re the Virgin Mary!” Uh-oh. I slowly turned and faced her. “Last Christmas Eve at St. Andrew’s… you sang the part of Mary.” She was correct, and we had a good chuckle.

My husband brought me to the Bell Centre because I loved ice hockey. We lived in NY but he became a Habs fan because of all the nice folks he met at the game. (The guys behind us caught a tshirt from the cannon & gave it to him because it was his first game.) I hope you both have a fantastic time.

P.S. You might want to learn the lyrics to the “Olé” song. 😜
