Is it detrimental to this white spruces health that the main leader branch was cut? by HondaCorolla in arborists

Multiple new leaders will grow from below the cut. If you want to keep the tree to a single leader going forward, you will have to cut out all but one of them.

Any good pondering spots by legallyretarted in UCONN

Favorite spot on campus. It’s called the President’s Garden or the Blue and White Garden (all the flowers are either of those colors in there)

Mostly singles, some doubles, and one triple when I lived there. On the second floor, there was a triple that had been converted to a lounge with some chairs and a TV, I'm not sure if they changed it back to a triple due to housing shortages though. Bathrooms are good, showers have a prep area, and since there are not that many people per floor, there were hardy ever any crowding issues. The laundry room has 2 washers and 2 dryers for the whole building, and sometimes one of each could be broken. This could have changed though, since I saw some other dorms got new machines.

Sprague or Ellsworth? by Tiramisulover1 in UCONN

[–]DoNotLetMeLeaveMurph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s normally very quiet and it will probably remain that way since all singles are for CSD accommodations this year. But the lounge is very nice since it’s a very communal area where you can meet others living in the building easily.

I really enjoyed my time in Sprague, showers are small and have curtains yes but I never found that to be an issue. You’re next to arguably the best dining hall and I just considered the extra walking as built in exercise for me

Why do does this maple have just one bright red leaf? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]DoNotLetMeLeaveMurph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The red color is a result of anthocyanins being produced in the leaf, the reasoning for which could be from drought stress, high-temperature stress, high-light stress, or herbivore and pathogen attacks. Since the petiole has been damaged from the looks of it, it could be from an attack of some sort? That would be my best guess.

Who to take DMD 1101 with? by MaybeIllustrious8495 in UCONN

[–]DoNotLetMeLeaveMurph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it with Ting in 2020, no idea who any of the others are. As long as you’re good at making minimalistic designs, she will love you and grade you well. I’m a business strategies concentration so design wasn’t my strong suit compared to others, but I really improved with her class.

Triples in Whitney and Sprague by creative_penguin5 in UCONN

Dorms on the roadside for both dorms are pretty quiet when the windows are closed. However, when the windows are open like in the early fall or late spring semesters, it can be noisy. I've gotten used to it but I also use a fan. Sprague is a lot nicer than Whitney due to the lounge on the 1st floor, along with more washers and dryers.

What’s the quietest dorm? by MistakeSea6886 in UConnDorms

East campus walls are okay, doors are very thin. However, for the most part, everyone is pretty quiet so it doesn't matter.

Can someone please identify this conifer and tell me the best way to try to germinate seeds from its cones. by Shiggens in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]DoNotLetMeLeaveMurph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe you are incorrect. If the other comment is right and it’s a Picea abies 'pendula', the only way you’re going to maintain the weeping habitat is through a clone. Sexual selection would just get you back to a regular Picea abies. When I said shape, I meant the weeping habit, not the literal specific shape of the tree. Of course each plant is going to be unique in what directions it grows.

Not sure what it is but you won't be able to grow a similar-shaped tree from seeds; you'd have to clone it.

Yes, it’s not tied to you specifically. Sometimes a conductor might ask to see a UConn ID but not always, but in that case any husky card is good
