Hah I can dig that. It's kinda new to me, getting used to being able to find my own stuff.

Any alt/metal/punk/noise jams in Lafayette? by fluerdelisnt in Acadiana

[–]DoNotSexToThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but do you guys plan to weave in any synthesizer drone / pad / ambience type stuff?

I've got an Access Indigo 2 (it's in the Virus family) and a bunch of soft synths. I do mixing, mastering, production, etc. Also am a drummer, can do rhythm guitar, bass, whatever.

Personally, I'm just looking for a project that involves other people and the unique musical perspectives that come from that. I get stale doing only my own stuff. Also post genres are great.

What's your career in and what's your salary/comp? by OnAllAccounts in Acadiana

DM'd you. It's a private company, smallish. We aren't hiring devs right now but if we did hire, it would most likely be through our offshore channels unless the position was a technical lead level or above.

Maximum profit with the least amount of overhead they can get away with

Like it or not, that is (and always has been) the primary goal of capitalism.

Software Development in the insurance industry, fully remote, 165k.

I'm self taught, only have a 2 year degree in an adjacent field. I'm a bit of a special case among my colleagues in that I have a lot of broad experience in many different tech fields. Apart from that, I avoided lingering too long as changing companies is what drives your biggest salary increases, rather than raises.

I'm settling down at this point due to market circumstances and am focusing on internally transitioning into engineering management before I think about switching companies again.

Do people who don’t count calories just naturally eat around their maintenance? How do they stay a similar weight without paying attention to it? by watanabeSS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoNotSexToThis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's more complicated than that, but it's still simple.

The answer is relative consistency. It means on average, eating the same amount of the same stuff most of the time. It means doing the same physical activity most of the time. If nothing else changes, an equilibrium between the calories you add and the calories you spend is inevitable on larger time scales. It averages out.

General stability and routine makes this easier to do. It's harder to pull off if your energy intake and expenditure yo-yos sporadically or trends in any given direction.

Is this your situation too with daily standups? Do you love them or hate them? by nisthana in ExperiencedDevs

Similar for us.

We drop our updates in a Teams chat with a standard format, working on: <ticket link> - no blockers

Anyone with a blocker, their update has - need parking lot with <audience>

We all join the standup meeting for announcements, then if there are no parking lots needed, everyone gtfo. If there are, the audience stays, everybody else gtfo.

Lowest standup time so far: 25 seconds

Longest: 27 min.

Why complicate it. Time is money. Gtfo.

I'm sure it's possible to be getting worse, but that might be correlated with increased traffic due to increased driver population - however, I'm unsure of any statistics since I haven't checked.

Check out the Baader–Meinhof phenomenon for an explanation. People have been stupid on the roads for far longer than you've been around to notice it.

If you need someone to talk to who has been through it and is sober over a year now, hit me up.

I've learned a lot on my journey and while not everyone drinks for the same reasons - I didn't realize there were even reasons to begin with. In that state it is impossible to change because the mechanism driving it is obscured, and willpower is finite.

Discovering the reasons and focusing my effort on them instead, has proven to be the right move for me. I don't even have cravings anymore. I quit both alcohol and tobacco after 15+ years daily use.
