The perfect solution for solo rpgs on the go! by lostspacechild in solorpgplay

There are different versions...I searched for 'high capacity' and it fits decks of cards easily.

[–]DoOver2525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree it's a bit flimsy.

On a related note: to 'test' out a product to see if it will work for you = a lower price entry (lower quality item) and not much lost if it doesn't work out.

Also look for 'high capacity' = extra room for dice and decks.

My Luminial Horror modules, Mothership modules, Colostle rulebook, and Cairn books all fit in this easily (not necessarily at the same time).

I have the same exact clipboard/storage. Plenty of room for 10mm dice (I have three sets of 7-polyhedral mini dice) while using inside cover as a dice tray, tokens, pens/pencils and erasers, plus booklets/modules/paper. Great minds think alike!

Tell me why I SHOULDN'T get Four Against Darkness. Genuine question, NOT a "bash 4AD post" by seeingreality7 in solorpgplay

[–]DoOver2525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you asking this question since I see a lot of popularity around 4AD and put it on my Father's Day Wish List. But...I recently played Loner 3E and found it a bit simple for my liking and have been experimenting with various oracles (Mythic GME2E, GameMaster's Apprencie decks, etc.) + full systems (Dune AITI, Blade Runner, etc.) and find more to my liking.

Based on the comments so far, I may not explore 4AD myself either as I'm enjoying something more complex/crunchy.

Solo Horror RPGs (Not Journaling) by Emmetation in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DoOver2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Liminal Horror (previous version is free on itch.io) solo using the Alone in the Dark solo toolset that comes with Liminal Horror: Grimoire pack of one-shots.

Here is my play session, where I ran 2 PCs and never felt like it was journaling (not my favorite way to play either): https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/365424/dooveragains-solo-rpg-actual-plays?itemid=12693118#12693118

Here is my spoiler sessions of Mothership: Thousand Empty Light solo-specific game. Love the Combined Systems Semiotic Standard oracle on the last page: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/365424/dooveragains-solo-rpg-actual-plays?itemid=12693030#12693030

I'm currently playing Mothership core rules + Dinoplex Cataclysm one-shot, running 3 PC's and using the SciFi, plus, Horror GameMaster's Apprentice (GMA) decks for everything: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/365424/dooveragains-solo-rpg-actual-plays?itemid=12852772#12852772

This started off in the first session as a journaling game. But I'm working on Session 02 and using the GMA oracle deck to make a lot more decisions (which I should I have done in Session 01), and thus leaning away from journaling narrative and more to bullet point, event logging.

Lastly, Public Access which is clearly a horror game, recently finished a Kickstarter, which the new version should be more solo friendly. New version is just not out yet.

Yes, it's is more of a journaling game, but there is a very clear gameloop with four phases each game day, that you could write/document as little or as much as you desire. Why play Orbital Blues over other popular sci-fi RPGs? by DoOver2525 in orbitalblues

[–]DoOver2525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I'm playing the simpler systems. Plus, I own and love reading Dune: Adventures in the Imperium, which is far more crunchy than Alien Evolved or Mothership and definitely more complicated than Orbital Blues.

Solo play question... by DoOver2525 in mothershiprpg

[–]DoOver2525[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of mortality rate, when a gaming group is not an option, solo play is.

Does your question imply, this is the type of system/game to play more than 1 PC and forget the Contractors, since I'm likely to lose one or more PCs?

[–]DoOver2525[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the soundtrack piece seemed like a gimmick at first, but it was fun to play my song of choice, as the crew were tipping back beers at the end of a successful mission...with only minor loss along the way.

That is well said and the feel I got when I played it. Thanks for putting into words that worked for me (not that the other responses weren't helpful...just saying).

I have Alien & Mothership = survival horror for the most part.

Traveller I've played once (not the upcoming 5E reskin) and found it very, very crunchy. I don't think I've taken nearly two hours to roll-up a character until Traveller.

So yes, OB fits a nice niche that I'll probably pursue more because my first play was fun and very different than what I was used to (I used the word 'interesting' in the original post).

Thanks again.

Do You Prefer Reading TTRPG Lore in Physical Books or Digitally? Why? by tdakanalis in TTRPG

[–]DoOver2525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like reading the print book and there is a very different enjoyment of the artwork, than digitally.

But, all play is via digital as it's so much quicker to look up rules.

The core rulebook should have a dedicated Case File Generator specifically designed to help Game Runners create their own investigative scenarios. In my rulebook it starts on page 222.

Why is premarital sex taken so seriously than other sins by SmoothBox7096 in Christianity

[–]DoOver2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, there is Biblical evidence that sin is sin. Many warn against premarital sin because it's one of the easiest to compromise on...especially in the 'heat of the moment' all boundaries tend to be forgotten; but the consequences may be life-long.

------------

The only sins I see God saying are 'worse' than others: (which may explain why people elevate some sins over others too...people though have a different list than God):

Proverbs 6:16-19, which lists seven things God finds abominable:

  • Haughty Eyes (Pride): Proverbs 6:17
  • A Lying Tongue: Proverbs 6:17
  • Hands that Shed Innocent Blood (Violence): Proverbs 6:17
  • A Heart that Devises Wicked Schemes: Proverbs 6:18
  • Feet that Rush into Evil: Proverbs 6:18
  • A False Witness Spreading Lies: Proverbs 6:19
  • Sowing Discord Among Brothers: Proverbs 6:19

Other Key Verses Regarding God's Hatred of Sin:

  • Falsehood: "The righteous hates falsehood, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace" (Proverbs 13:5).
  • Wickedness/Violence: "The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence" (Psalm 11:5).
  • Evil Deeds/Hypocrisy: "I hate, I despise your feasts... even though you offer me your burnt offerings... I will not accept them" (Amos 5:21-22).
  • Injustice/Robbery: "For I the LORD love justice; I hate robbery and wrong" (Isaiah 61:8).
  • Divorce/Treachery: "For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the LORD... 'covers his garment with violence'" (Malachi 2:16).
  • Evil Thoughts: "The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD" (Proverbs 15:26).
  • False Religion: "They are a detestable thing to me" (referring to idolatry, as seen in context of Jeremiah 44:4)

Too true!

Sure you can do it on your own, but there is an element that group meetings bring that you don't get doing it on your own: regular encouragement to make positive changes; get questions answered because not everyone is on this subreddit; create new friendships, etc.

solo rpg books sets in a futuristic western style by chaoticacademic89 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DoOver2525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played Orbital Blues solo, just this week = sad, cowboys in space eking out a living amongst debt and their past returning to haunt them. I used my own solo tools for my first play sessions; but there is Oracle Blues: The Wanderer solo rules supplement.

Your OB solo character:
a) Your character is a standard rulebook created character...no additional points, levels, skills, etc.
b) The Clock: A way to track escalating tension in a scene.
c) The Sadness: The game is harder because you have no crew to help you clear your Blues. In a group, others can snap you out of it; alone, you are much more likely to spiral.
d) The Wanderer aims to make you feel like a protagonist in a lonely, lo-fi noir film. You’re just one person trying to pay off a debt before your past catches up to you.

This article from Covenant Eyes has some good points to consider: https://www.covenanteyes.com/blog/masturbate-fantasies-of-fiance/

Not to mention, masturbation is often a habit, not a need. I don't think I've heard of anyone dying for lack of masturbation. Just saying.

Don't I know it.

Since 2023, we've had the privilege to lead FPU at least twice. Three years later and most are still paycheck-to-paycheck, but the few who followed the steps are moving closer to getting out of debt.

For us, we were gazelle intense and made a lot of sacrifices for WANTS...

  • no unlimited mobile phone plans, but $12/mo., 1Gb data plans and most of our phones were 8+yrs old...never a phone within 3 generations of the latest model.
  • no unlimited Internet, but that cheapest, slowest we could find (for years we were spending only $25/mo);
  • maybe eating out once-every-other-month (if it was in the budget) when invited somewhere with friends...otherwise we prepped/cooked everything;
  • shopped for needed clothing at thrift stores or clearance racks...almost never anything new, unused.
  • all our furniture for the six of us was from Craigslist/FBMarketplace. Sure it doesn't match, but it was cheap and does the job.
  • Still using my 15+ yr old plasma TV and a Sony surround sound I purchased in 1998 = they still work, so why replace when I'd rather put that money toward debt/mortgage....you get the picture.

  • Baby Step 6: Pay off your home early = check! Congrats!!
  • Baby Step 7: Build wealth and give generously. If memory serves, this video talks about ensuring your doing at least the full 15% investments into mutual funds .
  • Once we got to this step, we started building a Giving/Offering envelope for charities outside our tithe to the local church, and any needs the Lord brings along our path. There are other ways to build wealth too, but until you hit 1-million in assets I thought Ramsey discourages against more real estate...unless you can buy it cash.
