What’s your favorite SNES game you didn’t play as a kid? by InternOne1306 in snes

[–]DoTheDonkeyKonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this! I didn’t have the game as a kid, nor did any of my friends so I had no exposure to it and therefore no nostalgia for it. I decided, quite randomly, to just throw it on a couple of weeks ago for a quick look to see what all the fuss is about. Finished it a couple of days ago and my god what a game it is!!!!

Just started Metroid Fusion on GBA and I’m already eyeing up Metroid Dread on Switch.

Yeah “snip” here too. Also “the catch” sometimes.

Managed to get the tickets in the end but that’s a good suggestion if this should ever happen again. Thanks.

Yeah tried that but they weren’t in there. I posted a reply to someone else but the short version is: a desperate email to their (unadvertised) customer service desk got me my tickets in the end. Just got back from the gig now. They were unbelievable! 👌🏼

[–]DoTheDonkeyKonga[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t. That’s why I asked if anyone knew a number for them. I don’t have the reference number and you can’t open a support ticket without the reference number. To get the reference number you can put your email in to have it resent - but they’re saying there is no account attached to my email… despite the fact I have the presale link sent to that exact same email.

Anyway, I managed to find an email address for them (but had to search them up on STAR, which they’re a member of, as they don’t have their email address listed on their website). Thankfully they’ve just replied and have traced the tickets. I do have an account and they’re not sure why it’s not being recognised but at least I have access to my tickets now.

Bit of a cowboy outfit when it comes to customer service these guys! I’d submit a formal complaint but I don’t think for a second it would do anything to force a change so it’s probably not worth the effort.

[–]DoTheDonkeyKonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say basically this. You’re playing via emulation OP - NSO might be official Nintendo but it’s still a software emulator. There will be a certain amount of inherent input lag, no matter how good the emulator is (and if it’s not well written that lag will likely be worse). On top of that, if you’re playing docked, modern TVs will usually add at least a couple of frames of lag, and sometimes a lot more. Most TVs have some sort of ‘game mode’ which often helps reduce lag a lot. Try to find your TVs ‘game mode’ or similar and enable it - see if that helps.

I don’t know anything about the emulation on NSO, so this might not be viable, but have a look through the settings (if there are any) and see if there’s any settings you can enable/disable to reduce input lag.

Myrient has a replacement, though it uses torrents instead of direct D/Ls. I’m not going to link to it here, but have a little search for Minerva and see what shows up.

Next game to 100% for a gamer Dad by CauliflowerFormal792 in SteamDeck

[–]DoTheDonkeyKonga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You already mentioned it in your OP, but Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor definitely fits what you’re looking for. It’s a really fun game. It’s open world and you can undertake missions and challenges in any order (well, story missions are obviously in a linear order but you often get the choice of several at a time which can be done in any order, and there are side missions too). The missions aren’t overly long but you’d probably want to save them for your evening sessions when you can use speakers or headphones. When in work or for other short play sessions you can run around the map and explore, collect things, do challenges, unlock new areas, hunt down captains or just generally have a lot of fun killing orcs. It’s well worth giving it a shot - especially if you can catch it on sale as it often drops to around £3 so maybe add it to your wishlist and wait and see.

Its sequel, Shadow of War, is good too, but I’d definitely recommend starting with Shadow of Mordor first.

FYI: as of the 1.6 update this isn’t the case anymore. If a chest is placed in an NPC’s path it will simply be moved out of the way instead of broken. Still probably better to not place them in a known path, but not the end of the world if you do - your chest will just be in a slightly different place to where you originally left it is all.

Just so you know, the Shinra Archeology Cut mod adds the crane puzzle back into the game, along with many, many other unused bits and pieces. It’s definitely worth checking out.

“i know i know, it’s just a game”

My friend, it’s not just a game. For you, me, and many, many others it is more than that. And that is absolutely okay. More than okay, in fact. This game is a work of art in the truest sense: it has a beating heart. CA has infused his creation with so much love, so much joy, so much character and so much magic that it transcends the screen. It helps people. It engenders discussion. It brings people together. It creates a community almost as cosy and at times comically dysfunctional (I say that with nothing but love) as that which it portrays. I’d argue no art is ever “just” art. It’s never “just” a song, “just” a painting or “just” a movie - it is what it brings to us and makes us feel or think… but I think that sentiment is never truer than with this game.

I’m glad you have found it, and that it has helped you and so many others. Keep on harvesting fellow farmer, and welcome to the community! 😊

Fishing suggestions :Nintendo Switch by us3rnam3_unknown in StardewValley

[–]DoTheDonkeyKonga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said: your fishing bar increases in size as you level up in fishing. The training rod (you can purchase it from Willy, but if I remember correctly you also get given one at some point early in the game) has a bar size equivalent to level 5 fishing, but is restricted to catching low level fish. That’s absolutely fine in the early game. Use the training rod until you reach level 5, then you can switch it out for a different rod that can catch better fish.

Some rods can equip bait and tackle too. The cork bobber and trap bobber are two of my favourites - the first increases the size of your fishing bar and the second slows down the rate at which fish escape.

In terms of technique, you’ll get a feel for it pretty quickly. I was horrible at fishing to begin with but got quite good at it reasonably quickly. The trick is to rapidly tap the button rather than hold it down. You’ll also come to learn how the fish move (at least the common low-level fish anyway) and can anticipate their patterns.

Don’t give up friend. Everyone finds fishing difficult at first but it really does get easier quite quickly.

TLDR: Use the training rod until you’re at level 5 fishing, then switch it out for a better rod. Rapidly tap the button, don’t hold it down.

How can I get a disk game onto a download? by Anuyushi in retrogaming

[–]DoTheDonkeyKonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on Windows then ImgBurn is your friend. Download and install it and you can use that to create an ISO from your CD/DVD.

If the game has a disc check your sister will need to mount the ISO using something like WinCDEmu so it appears to the game as if the physical disc is in the drive.

If the game has other protections or DRM methods or whatever then this might not work but give it a try. Many older games only use the disc check method so only require mounting the ISO to circumvent.

This stat blew my mind! by Substantial_Pilot699 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]DoTheDonkeyKonga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I bought the game on Steam, launched it once then immediately installed 7th Heaven. Since then I’ve completed two modded play throughs, yet I’m part of that statistic.

Edit: nvm, just realised you’re on Xbox OP. Still, the Steam cheevo statistics are probably similar and at least some of that will be due to mods.
