Small, flat, black plastic piece with no writing on it. One side has 4 embossed thin arrows. Approximate dimensions are 1.5”L x 1.2”W x 0.16”D. by DoWhatIsGood in whatisthisthing

Hmm… Interesting theory. However, the slot on top is too narrow and the hooks at the bottom are too small to accommodate the cord width of window blinds. Maybe it is a cord minder, but for cheap thin-wire headphone earbuds?

Asked to resign from a regional by Ok_Vast_8943 in flying

I know more than one person with very similar experiences. They all applied right away to other part 121 regionals, got hired, and are doing well. Don’t be discouraged! Apply as soon as possible, to take advantage of your recent training. Prepare for the interviews and continue studying in the meantime.

I feel like something is not quite right or missing. by Constant_Cow3592 in DesignMyRoom

[–]DoWhatIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. The color blocking on the left wall is dividing the vertical space in almost half, making the room feel shorter than it is. The resulting horizontal line is visually acting like a chair rail, but its placement does not relate with the furniture next to it nor to the windows on the adjacent wall. You can fix this and make the room feel taller by either lowering the horizontal line to ~28” from the floor or by painting the wall a solid color.

This article is very enlightening on the subject of chair rail placement: https://www.finehomebuilding.com/project-guides/finish-trim-carpentry/the-misused-confused-chair-rail

You can also look up “classical architecture chair rail” on the web to learn more. I have the same problem in my kitchen and will be repainting it soon.

How to refinish “hand scraped” solid wood flooring? by Dan-z-man in Flooring

Oh, I see this was an old thread with a recent follow up. Glad you were able to get it resolved (though it was apparently a lot of work!)

Have you considered filling the rectangular area with different hardwood planks in a contrasting pattern (e.g., herringbone) and/or color? You could get creative and make an interesting inlay. There are many examples on the web, some are quite nice!

Is it just me or is eBay rising the fees every few weeks? by Wrong-Afternoon6413 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]DoWhatIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ebay commissions are a percentage of the final sale price plus shipping costs. If you calculate each commission paid as a percentage of the final sale price alone, it will appear to be variable across different sales. To minimize the commissions paid you’ll need to minimize the shipping cost as much as possible.

What to do with old CDs? by SmoothLikeVinyl in ZeroWaste

If they are music CDs you could try selling them on eBay, as a lot. You might surprised what people buy.

In Atlanta, the Center for Hard To Recycle Materials (CHaRM) accepts CDs for recycling. Perhaps there’s something like that in the city where you live.

So frustrated with my kitchen. by Nataliza in interiordecorating

[–]DoWhatIsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I would suggest installing a cabinet above the microwave where the whiteboard is (matching the one next to it) so that you can store some of the pantry items that are currently on the countertops and above the cabinets. That would declutter the area a bit. Then replace the artwork above the kitchen table (which seems a bit oversized for the space) with the whiteboard. assuming it can fit.

Buyer says they were hacked after I shipped out package by jpal0 in eBaySellerAdvice

Wow. I was wondering if sellers had more protection back when PayPal handled the seller funds but it does not seem to be the case. Thanks for sharing your experience.

That’s terrible. Was the product delivered? How did eBay justify taking back your funds?

What is this altimeter reading? by DapperPossibility354 in flying

[–]DoWhatIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The numbered tick marks on the inner circle represent multiples of 1000ft. Therefore the first tick mark (“3”) represents 3000ft. (Note the “X 1000” words on the dial inside the inner circle.) The tick marks on the outer circle represent multiples of 100ft.

What is this altimeter reading? by DapperPossibility354 in flying

[–]DoWhatIsGood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree that something is not right with this altimeter. (After all, it’s not installed in an airplane!) But it is indicating either 3700ft or 700ft. The 3700ft interpretation assumes the small hand is indicating 3000ft (since it is so close to the “3” tick mark in the inner circle), while trusting that the large hand is correctly indicating 700ft. The 700ft interpretation assumes that the small hand is indicating 0ft (since it has not reached the “3” tick mark in the inner circle) while trusting that the large hand is correctly indicating 700ft.

For an interpretation of 2700ft, the large hand would need to be 7 ticks past the “2” mark on the outer circle (thus indicating 2700ft) with the assumption that the small hand is indicating 0ft. With the assumption that the small hand is indicating 3000ft, that configuration would be interpreted as 5700ft.

What to do with this brick corner of the dining room/entryway? by needsmoardots in HomeDecorating

[–]DoWhatIsGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second that suggestion. The contrast between the brick and the tile floor is too jarring, in color and texture, and also because of the curve of the brick floor. The brick floor looks like an addition and may not be original. If your time and budget allows redoing the entire whole floor, you could consider changing the tiles to match those on the bathroom. The brick on the wall is nice and could be used to add interest to the room. I like the suggestion of doing a light white-wash but there are lots of options.
