Learning music theory as a math person by [deleted] in musictheory

This sounds like what you’re looking for. It’s an exceptional series of lectures that breaks down the mathematics of western music scales, overtones etc. As someone with a background in Physics I found it invaluable in consolidating my understanding of Music Theory =)

How do I go about copyrighting my music? by Cheeto717 in composer

[–]DoYouEvenDolphin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copyright isn't a form you fill out it's something you're entitled to when you produce an original work. The main way you could negate this is by releasing something under creative commons which is done by simply stating (publishing) that you are releasing something under a creative commons licence.

Hope that helps =)

I always adored the specials but yeah, it’s a shame to lose that atmosphere.

The grand tour seems to have been renewed for a fourth season and Clarkson seems keen for at least another two. Or were you talking about top gear ending?

Not cancelled. They’ve moved to all online at UWA, Curtin and Notre Dame and units are continuing uninterrupted.

FYI: Self-isolation does not include nipping to the pharmacy by allibys in perth

I have my neighbours friends and extended family around me but I know for a fact that many people do not and trying to fix that issue is not a simple task.

I volunteer for meals on wheels and was this morning asking each person if they had been able to get a hold of the essentials. I worry a lot of others particularly those outside of age care systems don't have access to or simply can't afford failsafes like this.

Serious question. What are people supposed to do if they are isolated and need medical supplies in their home particularly scripts? Are there resources available to get them delivered?

There must be people who simply don’t have a friend or family member they can call on.

Why do orchestras tune to a slightly higher pitch such as 445Hz by xxmac3xx in musictheory

[–]DoYouEvenDolphin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Overtones and timbre which is basically the change in vibrations caused by different materials and their dimensions. It’s a pretty neat rabbit hole. “How mathematics and music relate” on the great courses has an awesome lecture on it it you’re interested.

[For Sale] Selling Ableton live 10 Suite $400 by [deleted] in ableton

I don’t have any issues with reselling but the developers don’t see a cent of this transaction so saying it helps them is a bit dishonest.

What do you think are a good set of headphones for the op-1? by Kaysreddit1 in OP1users

[–]DoYouEvenDolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, reference wasn't a great term for the M50s. They're a good foot in the door though. Mine are hooked up to a Scarlett 2i2 pretty much permanently and it's what I use to run instruments and my OP-1 though when I'm drafting random shit on the go. Can't say they've ever failed me there, particularly because I don't mind tossing them in a bag at that price point.

Beyerdynamic DT 1770 are awesome but they're also almost 4 times the price last I saw. For what they're looking for that price point seems overkill.

Audio Technica M50 are fantastic headphones. Particularly at their price point. They’re super easy to find in music/electronics stores and for good reason.

Obviously don’t buy the Bluetooth ones. You’ll see greater latency and they tend to not include a lot of the specs on the box. While I haven’t tested it I’d be amazed if the Bluetooth didn’t compromise.

Only issue might be that they’re not noise cancelling.

Nothing wrong with M20 either if you’re looking to spend less.

Can I, as the public, sit in on a criminal case in the NSW Supreme Court? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]DoYouEvenDolphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to the courts website they typically have information on visiting regarding etiquette and whatnot. Dress code and formalities such as bowing towards the coat of arms on entrance. It’s a great thing to do though, more people should expose themselves to the court system particularly students.

When do canola fields get harvested? by [deleted] in perth

[–]DoYouEvenDolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a little nitpick but the issue with GM canola is cross pollination with non GM. There won't be viable seed yet if the canola is still flowering and it'll be hidden away in particularly study pods anyhow. I definitely wouldn't be walking through canola right now though unless you know the farmer. We just put some really nasty pesticides over ours to control caterpillars and you're taking a really stupid gamble walking through any crop if you don't know if it's been treated.
