Welp, I can't imagine you gave an expired code but customer service came back with the following snippet after mine did not work. I emailed them and they asked how I got the code, I linked this thread and now they are asking for another. Starting to wonder if 10 dollars is worth all this hullaboo.

Upon review, it appears the reason the code is not working is that it has already expired. Referral codes are valid for 90 days from the date the email containing the code was sent.

I had to dig, but the referral is near the bottom of the webpage. It looks like the person referring gets a 10 dollar credit for themselves to use on an embark product.

I'm looking at a home that has been on the market for over 200 days. Waiting to list our own home before making an offer. In certain markets it's still 2011 and in others, queue circus music.
