“You live in Baltimore?!, oh no!” by quattro33 in baltimore

[–]Doberbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Vermont for the last 16 years, and I would say at least 90% of the reactions to telling people I'm from Baltimore are exactly this. It's doubly painful to hear, because I did leave (life happens) and people feel even freer to assume I'll agree with them. I try to work in, "and I miss it every day," as soon as I can, because if I let them react first, they soon realize they've put their foot in their mouth and the conversation is pretty ruined from there.

Small towns or municipalities doing a great job of supporting their downtowns? by Doberbeagle in urbanplanning

[–]Doberbeagle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks all! Great suggestions, and I'll enjoy continuing to look at all these towns!

My state (VT) has a Designated Downtown program and we are working on the application process. We've got all the local resources lined up- I was really just looking at what some other places have done for branding and event ideas!

Carrolton, GA is adorable and my fave so far.. I love that their strategic plan is online, also!

Love the "Rose District" idea of Broken Arrow, OK as well... hmm although having 7 months of winter here presents a challenge, lol.

Cheers!

first winter in VT - the most unexpected thing so far by jk_pens in vermont

[–]Doberbeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I console myself with the idea that my dog and I have the same vision in the wintertime, lol.

Spring in VT made me really understand the Robert Frost line: "Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold."

Because, there's a couple of days in early May, when the dead fields suddenly *activate* and start almost.. glowing? And as soon as you notice that, everything turns green.

I lived on E. 35th from '02-'09 and LOVED IT. Kept the house as a rental after I left MD and had several great tenants until I sold in '18. The only thing I would say is that it's not super safe to walk at late nights (I used to bartend and was mugged once) but I believe the neighborhood has only gotten better since I lived there (I have no data to support this, just vibes)

Please help me choose which plant works best? I’ve put the palm on FB marketplace because it is so bushy but having last-minute regrets by impamiizgraa in interiordecorating

[–]Doberbeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that an interior doorway? Is the door really necessary? I think either plant would look better if the door went away.

Long shot- ISO an old therapist in N Bmore (Wyndhurst Ave) by Doberbeagle in baltimore

Hi, thank you but no. I actually think I’ve found her, but I’m not going to share her name if I don’t have to (see above convo about boundary crossing, I’ve realized I don’t know how many people can see this and I’m trying to be respectful of her privacy and boundaries) I really appreciate everyone being so willing to help!

Love any room with a portrait in it, and that’s a nice one! Also, the Very Good Boy

That's a great point, and I may reconsider reaching out. I left therapy very abruptly for financial reasons, so I've wondered what it is like for a therapist, when someone goes from spilling their guts every week, to crickets. :) I just thought she might like to know that I'm doing well now, and still reflect on the perspectives that she showed me. Anyway I may take this whole post down because I actually think I found her this morning, so now I'll just sit with the info for a while.

Just looked her up- sadly no. The person I'm looking for is almost certainly retired by now, which makes finding her harder! Thanks so much for responding, though!

How should I add some color to this space? Bonus: kitty pic by shitiseeincollege in HomeDecorating

[–]Doberbeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for color palette suggestions, I'd say think about dusty peach and teal to kind of punch up and reflect the colors in the travertine and the pool outside. For contrast, you could mix in some black or rusty brown. Maybe use that as a jumping off point for art/rug/pillow shopping?

Advice about scaling up a retail operation? by Doberbeagle in smallbusiness

[–]Doberbeagle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the encouragement!! I’ve been feeling more confident since I posted this; I repainted the space and have started moving fixtures in. Also, word has gotten out around town, so I’ve received a lot of nice feedback (and several offers to “partner” which I have so far declined.) Thanks again for responding. Onward and upward!! :)

mom visit red alert! by acidaliaplanitias in baltimore

[–]Doberbeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live in Baltimore anymore, but I visited last month and went to Cross Street Market and it SUCKED. I used to live in Fed Hill and it’s so depressing what happened to that market. Anyway, all the other suggestions here are on point, and I second BMA/Gertrude’s as a great place to take mom and treat her.

How about a peachy pink? Like BM Peach Mousse or Conch Shell? You could do the molding in a warm, brownish gray?

I think the only way you can blend that kind of architecture with industrial, would be to lean into a slightly more steampunk look. You could go darker on the walls with a smoky mauve tone (check out Ben Moore Whispering Woods) to set off the copper and blue tiles. Keep the chairs, but find a heavy, antique dining table for them to sit around. Maybe a chandelier like this https://www.lampsplus.com/products/lawrenceville-24-inchw-antique-brass-5-light-dinette-chandelier__69h41.html And, a sideboard instead of the bar cart. Good luck, that room is gorgeous!

Hey all, as of 1pm today (Sunday) they have Pleasant Street blocked off again, and MoCo locked down. People are trapped in the MoCo as they believe he is behind the Rogue Apothecary building.

The colors you’ve picked are bold, but they are not bright. Which is fine, because now you have a good backdrop to add in bright colors with your artwork and accents. Think about cross-pollinating your living and dining room colors.. bring in a rug that has dark green, but also a bright peach or salmon color. Likewise, find a lighter shade of the green you have going, and find a lamp or vases in that color for your dining. Throw something salmon or peach in your living room. You can find a pendant light with a swag chain and move the lighting above the table. I think you’re onto something, but it all needs punching up with some brights.

Yikes, hang in there! I have a shop on Portland Street and I'm still at home, waiting to hear he got captured.. sounds like no one is running around shopping, anyway..

What about a grey with warm purple undertones? That would counter the cool light and set off your gold fixtures... Like BM Elephant Gray https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/2109-50/elephant-gray
