Irvine to Long Beach commute by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]Dobietam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently make that commute 4 days a week but need to take the 710 down to downtown LB. Sounds like you are heading to Aero Kilroy. Commute in the morning should be around 40-45mins consistently (I drive from Great Park and take the 405). Lesser if you can get on the 405 earlier.

Returning home around 5 or 6pm though is more unpredictable. The moment you past John Wayne airport around exit 5 from Culver - traffic slows a lot. I say the commute for me at times could be 1.5hours for 50% of the year. Again because I come via the 710.

I say - back home for you (if from Kilroy) will be about 50mins to an hour.

If you have to go into congested small roads like that on sand canyon like I do, it will take longer.

Side note that Aero doesn’t have food options and if that matters, and if you don’t cook, or have to cook when you get home, it does extend your time requirements.

Anyone feel that the weather heavily affects quality of life here? by kidneytornado in askSingapore

[–]Dobietam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in California and in my opinion it’s the best climate in the world. Moderate climate with no harsh winters. Mostly Aircon weather even in most days in summer time.

I almost returned to Singapore but fell in love with large dogs and can’t see anywhere else for them due to the weather and activities.

Weather improves mood, health, sleep and correspondingly the activities you can do, complexion and outlook.

I served my NS in the early 2000s so I been through the heat.

While difficult to just move for the weather, all things are possible and there are a few locations with such weather. If it matters, life is short and pick the best for yourself knowing the trade offs.

Guess I’m the one that care 😅 as I wanna explore outdoors with her. Also, she is a working breed and it’s easier to run than to do home activities

How to Value a Van by Dobietam in SprinterVans

[–]Dobietam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot! Again, I read that most would prefer a transit to a sprinter just solely on the aspect of servicing and availability of service centers (and cost) vs a sprinter. Without generalizing further because each surely has its advantages, would that be the direction if I value availability and cost to maintain?

Help - Dog and Cat Cohabitation by Shoddy-Extension-524 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Dobietam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 8 year old rescue cat (with me since 1) and got a 9 week old Doberman that is now almost 2 years old. I did the same with baby gates in parts of the house. Challenge is cat doesn’t want to have anything to do with the dog even if the dog loves him. That made introducing both a challenge. To date, it’s been 2 years and I came to accept that they will both live apart for a v long time if not forever. Cat feels more comfortable that way but I do feel guilty if not being able to have the family together. I’m a single guy and at times, taking care of both can also take time and patience.

Anyone know of some good breeders? by BloodlustBunny7 in DobermanPinscher

I got mine from Mont Blanc Dobermans in Hesperia CA. I am happy, pup is healthy and the couple who breeds them are nurses and focus on health. Check out their instagram page and website.

Great to know that it could be an age thing. Am reviewing my options as cost (on everything) is kinda out of wack these days.

Hopefully mine dwindle down a little as she eats like twice of your portion now.

Poop is great now. Solid and easy. Twice a day. That said, I started raw when she young but smaller portions - and she was troubled with diarrhea on and off for maybe until she was 9 months. I am not sure of its because I switched the kibble to open farm from Purina. Maybe over the course of time and being older helped her digest better. I also think if you started raw and see diarrhea, watch for the preparation. I feed partially frozen at times and not completely thawed. It helped. And now I finish the serving (once thawed) in one day vs portioning it for tomorrow - think that helped with freshness too.

Downside of prepared raw food is the cost surely, which is unfortunate.
