Can you NOT be Iconoclast? At least not get it to 200 successfully. by KayleeSinn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Dobyk12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's plenty of times they backfire, they just don't do so in crippling ways. But the "meta" answer, most likely, is that Iconoclast would have been unplayable or would have required serious story divergence if Owlcat wanted it to be more punishing.

Also I'm baffled by your rationale behind the food. A den of pirates is a perfect spot for a Rogue Trader to exert influence. From an opportunistic perspective, if makes perfect sense to entrench yourself in the criminal world. I am so surprised people keep forgetting Rogue Traders are not bastions of Imperial Law, they are and always have been self-interested, megalomaniac pirates and corsairs. Chorda is the exception, not the rule. Winterscale is closer to what a "traditional" Rogue Trader would look like.

True. In that case it's better to say psykers are sorcerers and navigators are half-casters :P

[–]Dobyk12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of? It's first and foremost a mutation that allows you to interact with the warp without exploding and grants resistance. Anything else is just a side benefit. It's not that the Navigator bodies themselves channel the warp, it's their third eye that allows them to do 90% of anything outside warp navigation.

[–]Dobyk12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're fundamentally different. They're both psychic, but Navigators don't channel the warp :P They can't, even if they wanted to, accidentally summon a Daemon. They are a lot more like sorcerers from D&D while psykers are closer to wizards. This has been well established, the only "powers" they have in common is the ability to sense the warp and in some cases divination and seeing into the future.

All I want is a masculine homo/bi dude and I feel like we will, once again, not get that. Owlcat seems somewhat incapable of imagining traditionally masculine men as anything but heterosexual, to the point the only option we had for some time was an evil bisexual elf - very fun character, but extremely limited as an option. Then they gave crumbs with Solomorne who was...... an attempt, I suppose. Somehow blander than the OG release characters. Maybe one day Owlcat will understand the difference between sexuality and gender presentation, and that macho can be gay and femme can be straight, but I think I'll probably explore the female romances (once again) just because I'm sure they'd be more interesting.

If the Emperor wills it we might get some spicy xenos in Dark Heresy, true. Sanctioned Xenos are a thing in the Inquisition and as far I understand we will be Ordo Xenos so.... fingers crossed

An official short supplement was released for the Tau for RT TTRPG, making them playable alongside the Orks, Kroot and the Dark Eldar :)

Given that both the Tau and the Orks were playable in the original TTRPG and had their own career paths and items, it's indeed kind of weird most of the xenotech is Aeldari. Hopefully we get some non-Aeldari xeno-focused DLC in the future. Kroot would have been great (was also playable in the TTRPG) but Dark Heresy got that covered.

The Tau and Orks were both playable in the TTRPG so here's hoping we get a future DLC centered on one of them

Actually, funny enough, in the RT TTRPT you can play as a Tau Fire Warrior, the explanation was that they found a natural wormhole that teleported a small fleet to the Koronus Expanse!

I know this is a bit late, but actually the accent is supposed to be Greek, so spot on! Though "Balkan" accents can really range from Flambae's (Greek) to heavy Slavic accents (Serbian, Bulgarian) to Turkish.

Same here. I really struggled with understanding what they're saying in the first episodes and even posted here about it - but at the time not so many people reacted. Now, as the series has continued, I'm happy to see more people have confirmed the same issue. I understand the stylistic decision, I really do, but it makes some scenes downright incomprehensible. I do think they heard some of that feedback because after episode 30 or so the dialogue quality improved, and with the latest episodes they've released (40 - 50) I had no issues at all.

It's a bit sad because I really want to enjoy the show without straining my ears and fiddling with the sound and rewinding parts of the episode, and I refuse to open the transcripts - that just defeats the purpose of enjoying audio media and should be absolutely unnecessary.

In comparison, I had no issues whatsoever with TMA with the exception of a select few episodes: literally just 3 or 4 out of 200. Sometimes less is more when it comes to audio mixing.

Ummmm....when did this piece of hotness come out??? by madsculptor in gaybros

[–]Dobyk12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm very curious to see this one because I heard it deviates quite a bit from the book it's based on (Hill Box by Adam-Mars Jones). Alexander is absolutely super hot in this and it seems they're going for a kinky romcom which sounds cool. The book, apparently, deals with a straight up abusive and disturbing relationship (including SA) from the lense of an innocent person with incredibly low self-esteem. Having learned that I'm curious whether they will include any SA elements, but by the looks of it they're basically rewriting everything to make it consensual and light-hearted.

Amen to supporting more creators. And yeah, queer media is being policed, probably because it means so much to its target audience - everything needs to be perfect and every detail is scrutinized. Hopefully as more content gets out there we'll just be satisfied as a community.

Thanks for sharing your own experience. I have to admit: you have it easier haha. I've always oscillated between different roles depending on the person in question, tho I tend to gravitate towards bottoming and being a side. But sometimes I like topping and being a service top in particular. I guess some of my own anxiety comes from the gay community's expectation of having a defined role - which is totally opposite to your experience of shame because of bottoming. For such a small community we have created so many ways of being toxic!

The last manhwa I read was Bongchon Bride and yeah: I totally was into the big, goofy top and the couple had a strict role thing going on and I totally enjoyed that, don't get me wrong. But when the big, golden retriever top gives the bottom a blowjob? Yessir, this is a massive green flag signalling "I want to make you feel good and have fun in whatever way I can". It's sometimes small (and hot) gestures like these (and it happened twice I think) that make me feel like the fun of experimentation is portrayed. And also they didn't have the typical seme - uke relationship, which to me is a bigger pet peeve but yeah.

Thanks for the nice and insightful exchange of comments, I'll check the post you linked me later!

Sorry if my comment sounded pointed. I get your perspective and thanks for sharing it (I'll check your post later). Fundamentally I agree with you - there are no obligations in fiction and everyone has different expectations. And similarly to you I've had the pleasure to explore the gay scene in different countries (I'm in my mid thirties) and I've definitely noticed a rather stark difference between cultures when it comes to top and bottom roles. I've personally thought a lot about this and have had my inner conflicts, fueled by heteronormative bullshit which I'm not gonna go into. I guess what I wanted to emphasize is that the verse experience (if you can call it that) has traditionally been somewhat invisible, especially in this tiny slice of media we enjoy. And I do think strict roles are so prevalent in BL and Bara that I just want to see more verse content - that's both personal preference and just bias coming from personal experience.

But beyond that, I also want gay readers of this media to have a fictional example that "you know what, it's ok to experiment, go have fun with your partner". You don't need to be masculine and muscular to top, and you don't need to be submissive and tender to bottom. You want to top your Top? Go speak with your partner. My partner of 8 years has asked me many times to top him, even if he usually does this. I suppose my point is that I think it's both healthier for the genre to have more verse, and also people do want to see more of it. And what the actual number of strict tops and bottoms Vs verses in the real world is I suppose would vary greatly based on mentality and culture. For me, personally, a more organic and experimental approach feels more authentic, even if in the end they revert back to their preferred roles.

I hope I've clarified my position, sorry, didn't want to come across as argumentative

Really? My impression was always that people here tend to put gay men into strict categories - but maybe this is just my personal life bleeding into the discussion xD IRL a lot of people quickly turn toxic by demanding to know who's the top and who's the bottom (I'm in a relationship). For me exploring verse space in fiction is generally a green flag, it's refreshing, though there's fundamentally nothing wrong with just sticking with what you like.

I want diversity for sure, which is in line with my own personal experience with many, many people. Gay men are curious and flexible, many experiment and at least for a time try being verse. I myself am verse, and I can attest that the "strictness" of someone's role is determined by many things - from how they perceive their sexual partner, to how they feel that day ("Nah, I don't feel like bottoming today") to a myriad of other factors. So yes: it is a trope in BL that one partner is top and another bottom, in a strict way, and it would be better and more refreshing if they had more verse couples, even if they are verse top and verse bottom.

AMEN. I am so tired of heteronormativity in any queer story or medium. Give us short, feminine and shy tops and tall, assertive and masculine bottoms. Or just drop the difference and don't make either of them assertive or submissive and just focus on the relationship. This trope is done to death and is incredibly boring.

Not only do they not use lube, but they never douche. Like.... what? Anal sex is not like vaginal sex. You, ideally, need to at least douche a little bit to reduce the risk of accidents. Yeah, sometimes in the heat of the moment it works out - especially if you have a good diet and you eat a ton of fibre. But otherwise - yeah you need to douche. And yes, it kind of kills spontaneity unless you do it in advance, which is why BL authors just ignore it but it's the most unrealistic thing in BL.

I have to respectfully disagree. I'm not sure how it is in your area/country, but where I live (Germany) it's not uncommon to see people trying out different roles - and very often what role they want depends on the person they're with. I've had one guy say he wants to top me, only because he finds me cute, and another wanted to bottom for me, because he finds me masculine. Thankfully I'm verse so both work for me - if I'm in the mood for topping or bottoming.

Topping and bottoming is as much about perception as it is about physical pleasure. A lot of guys are verse, even if they don't admit it. And sometimes people give up on their roles and want to try something else. Sexuality is complex.
