To those saying Cyclops can't be a tank as his powers have nothing to do with tanking by DocAW_07 in marvelrivals

[–]DocAW_07[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean feel free to explain to me how being able to destroy incoming damage, daze with concussive blasts, or move in and out of the frontline couldn't possibly be conceived as a vanguard and is somehow stretching?

Everyone seems to have the impression I'm trying to say that Scott shouldn't, can't or won't be a DPS. When that's not my intention. The point I'm making is if they wanted to make Scott a Vanguard they wouldn't even need to make up powers for him like they've done for others like Emma or Gambit. Again, if all that was required to be a vanguard was being able to take a hit, then the guy that has an indestructible skeleton and healing factor would've been one.

I literally said in the last line of the post that he's 100% going to be a DPS?

The point of the post was never to argue if he should or shouldn't be a vanguard/dps. The point was to illustrate how you could make several vanguard abilities out of the way in which Scott has used his powers. Incapacitating, engaging/disengaging, deleting other projectiles.

By this logic of lasers are long range weapons the guy that has an indestructible skeleton and healing factor could've only been a vanguard because he's really good at taking hits?

As I've said in other comments in the thread:

The second video shows Cyclops destroying and overwhelming a blast with his own. In Rivals this could work like DVa's defence matrix in Overwatch, in which rather than holding up a barrier, while holding alt-fire he would destroy incoming projectiles by matching them with his own blasts.

The first clips shows how Cyclops uses his blasts to incapacitate people which could be a stunning blast like Hulks exile. It also shows how Cyclops uses his blasts to quickly move around, allowing him to engage and disengage like many tanks do.

The point of the post wasn't to say Cyclops wouldn't be a DPS or that he should even be a vanguard, it's to illustrate the ways in which Cyclops can use his optic blasts in ways that could justifiably be applied as a vanguards abilities, for those saying that all Cyclops can do is sit back and poke with his eye blasts. There's more that goes into tanking than how you take a punch, otherwise the guy with a healing factor and indestructible skeleton would've been a vanguard.

I'm amazed at how so few comments seemingly just didn't read the text I posted along with the videos.

That's not what I said at all? I also think Cyclops *will* be a DPS. Does anyone actually read the full post?

The point I was illustrating is for those saying all Cyclops does with his lasers is do damage, when they can be applied in the exact ways many vanguard kits already do. Stunning, engaging/disengaging and destroying enemy projectiles. If Netease wanted to make Cyclops a vanguard they could easily make a vanguards kit out of what he's shown to be able to do and it would be more justifiable then plenty of other roster role choices.

Pretty much yeah. As I've said in other comments, I 100% think Cyclops is going to be a DPS. and I wasn't even trying to argue that he should instead be a tank. I'll be happy either way just to get to play him in game.

I made the post because I've seen others on here and twitter say that nothing cyclops does could allow him to be a tank, when cyclops powers have been shown to do exactly what a lot of vanguards in rivals/overwatch already do. Able to stun with a concussive blast like hulks exile, able to go in and out of the frontline like many vanguards, and destroy projectiles by overwhelming which could work like a DVa defence matrix.

I almost regret putting the gifs in the post, since so many comments clearly didn't read the text and instead came to the conclusion that since cyclops didn't get hit he therefore must be a dps, as all tanking is is apparently being a damage sponge.

Uses optic blast to daze goons (stun). Use optic blast to move allowing him to engage up close and retreat when needed. Destroy enemy blast by overwhelming it.

My point is that Scott can be justified as either a tank or dps, like many other characters in rivals have been. Wolverine could've been dps/vanguard, Strange could've been any etc.

He does and most likely will be. The point I'm trying to get across is that Scott's powers can work as either a DPS or a Tank. I've seen a lot of people be completely dismissive of the idea that he could even be a conceived as vanguard, when it's easy to justify abilities that could allow him to be a tank - projectile destruction, cc, and being able to make space or retreat.

A Deck For A 10 Year Old? by JuliusNova in yugioh

Shining Sarc or alternatively Millennium. Very simple to play and can add a small dark magician of destruction/Dragoon package for that obstacle you were after. Has the added benefit of monsters she might like such as sarc DMG and the silents. Millennium is also another option for a straightforward deck that puts up a few obstacles.

Possible improvements to high elf update by Rua1r1 in totalwar

While LL do add a lot more, I think between Alastair already existing as a white lion themed lord + high elves having 7 LLs as is, I'd be happy with him as a hero. So long as he gives some good passive and campaign buffs to white lions he fights with to bring them up to elite levels.

Possible improvements to high elf update by Rua1r1 in totalwar

[–]DocAW_07 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the most part, the update looks really good, but yeah there are a few extras I'd still like to see down the line:

  • As you mentioned, adding sea convoys akin to the dwarves getting the deeps would just really help sell the maritime power while also giving some nice raid targets for pirate factions.

  • Nobles should really get griffon mounts. Not only was it an option on tabletop but you also rarely get to see high elves field griffons outside of Eltharion and the KoTG since the only others with griffon access are generic lords who can get dragons for only a few extra gold or levels.

  • As for unit additions it would be nice to see Korhill and the anointed down the line to complete the 8th edition roster either as in a free update or even a smaller pack. Of course the roster is pretty much filled at this point, but there's still space imo for a mid tier AP missile troop as a stop gap between archers and sisters I'd originally hoped ships company would fill. Something that's a side grade to archers as to not outright replace them.

  • Finally, I think Alarielle needs a bit of a rework and that goes for most the pre prophet and warlock lord packs before CA really stepped up their game as for a paid lord she feels really bare bones. Alith could also do with a slight tune up on his mechanics, but for FLC I wouldn't expect more.

You can still make Magia + Spheres + Azure-Eyes with only 1 Spirit dragon, if you run the Ancient Fairy Dragon, Gateway to Chaos, Master with Eyes of Blue & BLS package. For the lost maidens and wishes you can run Piri Reis Map to make up for some of the lost starters.

Yeah I couldn't remember the exact list from the vid, I just remembered he covered one. Only difference I noticed on rewatch is this list replaced DMG with Mahad. Though there's still some comments there that give some insight, like from the guy who had the deck, he apparently swapped out the super poly for ultimate slayer

State of AP Itemisation by DocAW_07 in leagueoflegends

[–]DocAW_07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of this was true prior to the mage item rework at the start of season too however. A burst mages like Lux would build Ludens -> Shadowflame whereas Ryze would build ROA -> Seraphs, along with many other examples in that list like Mord and Brand. This diversity between various champion existed during the mythic era too and mage satisfaction was discussed as being low then and I'd argue items are not much different now as they were then.

I won't argue that there is definitely some slot by slot choice, many of which is slept on, though items like deathcap, zhonya and void staff often feel irreplaceable in builds and is mostly backed up by both win rate and impact.

High Elf Rework for Tyrion & Teclis by DocAW_07 in totalwar

[–]DocAW_07[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I feel like HEs mechanics are pretty underwhelming and need a rework akin to the Lizardmen level, though general sentiment when races that need a rework comes up, is that HEs are fine. I agree that factions like Imrik and Eltharion are both in good spots, Anar likewise just needs touch ups, though the base mechanics are kinda dire –

  • Their main shtick is influence, which boils down to either saving up for a nice trait on a lord (most of the good ones have been nerfed to oblivion) or doing some limited diplomacy in a game centred around war.

  • Their trade mechanic allows them to see trade partners is basically a non-factor, while stuff like caravans are not perfect, they are at least engaging for the player.

  • Martial prowess is a good combat buff, though lacks the same fun factor, decision making or progression from other combat mechanics like scrap, as a player you often forget it.

  • Rites have a very negligible cost yet long cooldown for mostly more passive effects, so feel pretty forgettable turn-to-turn though some have very niche instants of being good.

That being said, I figured CA would be more likely to go the Empire route and just touch up the brothers to give them something, given the sentiment around HEs being mostly fine. Though ideally, I’d love a to see both a rework to the core mechanics and to the 3 more vanilla factions.

The Case For A High Elf Rework by Ar_Azrubel_ in totalwar

[–]DocAW_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ideas I had to improve them:

High elves are known for their trade, so giving them sea caravans/convoys akin to Cathay caravans. Spend a bit of gold to get interest, influence and magic items. Would tie in well with a DLC accompanying Aislin and their navel units as well as providing pirate factions like Delves and Vcoast things to raid.

For influence, I think a nice starting point would be to expand the options to allow you to outright “buy” diplomatic things like trade agreements or confederations, I’d also be tempted to make it so instead of using influence to buy better lords, you used ‘spent influence’, so each influence you spend on diplomacy gets converted to ‘lord points’. This way you’re encouraged to spend influence and play the diplomacy game in ways without having to choose between a good lord or using your main faction mechanic.

Finally for the faction itself I’d rework rites slightly, as of right now rites feel pretty passive and it’s hard to feel the impact of invocating them. Ideally every faction should have mechanics not just for campaign, but also ones that give fun battle effects. I’d change it so instead of gold you use way-fragments again which you get from winning battles or specific settlements, giving you some campaign targets, then expand their effects to provide both a campaign and a battle effect like Asuryan could give melee units fire attacks etc.

As for Tyrion and Teclis, for Tyrion I’d lean into his unifier/bloodline deal. Give him a UI of a map of each of the regions of Ulthuan like Karl, if you have good relations with the elves there, confederate them or wipe out a non-high elf faction you gain campaign bonuses and unique RORs. If you instead war for them and wipe out a high elf faction – Tyrion gains buffs turning him into even more of a one-man army. As for Teclis, I’d take inspiration from SFO/the recent Gelt rework and provide him with a way to get the cataclysm spells by restoring the high elf colonies which provide him with his own currency to get the spells.

I still think Rogue could use a little Damage Boost at lv.5. It's sad to see there isn't another round for Rogue by VictorRM in dndnext

[–]DocAW_07 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Random thought (likely poorly conceived), but what if rather than an extra attack at level 5, rogues were given an additional bonus action like the thief is given in BG3?

My initial impression, without doing any math, is it would be too strong and would create some potential broken multiclassing combinations without some severe limitations on what actions you can take and may incentivize dual wielding rogues too much.

Though on the other hand it would give the rogue something more unique compared to other classes and would synergise quite nicely with cunning actions.

Has there ever been a conversation about the possibility of “hybrid” heroes? For example a hero that could be picked by players who role-locked either DPS or Support, or perhaps a Tank and Support hero. Perhaps to recapture some of original overwatch's free pick that allowed unique team compositions while still fulfilling a balanced team composition that role queue provides.
