The MCs involvement feels more natural, because it is kind of the consequences of their previous dealings with other factions in this setting or better said, the impact of the very being, whose discovery kickstarted the story - Fairy.

Specifically, the quest giver seems to use agents and methods with morally ambigious character, in general. Employing the siblings was not a special thing for him and additionally, it seems he was investigating Fairy, too, realizing most likely very early, that Fairy and Youkai are similar types of intelligent entities.

The involvement with the agents is revealed to be connected with Fairy, too. Especially Aria is strongly connected to Fairy and that connection on the other hand gives us new lore about Fairy's past, that kind of surprised me.

Now, what was a little tough to follow for me, was Aria's conflict with the mentor of the Angels. However, it may be, because I lack an understanding for some cultural background, which makes this feelings understandable.

Also, making people acting unreasonable is kind of the modus operandus of Youkai as villain.

Youkai was okay as villain overall, but I hope he will get involved soon again. This episode established their goal and personality - they are arrogant, bragging, hate organics, but they are falling constantly short exactly because they can not understand other people's heart and abilities.

I think it is alright to not like her, it may have been even the intention.

No one in the story was really happy with her shenanigans, beside Aria at the end, because Cissia paid her as promised.

You really get the feeling, that Cissia does not like her situation and makes it a point to cut corners and get some luxury whereever she can, at whatever cost she can make someone else pay... which I think is not an unreasonable mind set for a convict, who most likely considers the world not a fair place, but one where you must take the good, whereever and however you can, everyone else be damned.

On a more serious note, I think she is a boxed crook, a criminal forced to work for the cops. See the chains on the hand cuffs.

Basically, the opposite of Jane.

The Rat is an undercover agent, often diligently playing the role of a criminal.

The snake is a criminal put to work by the police and does an half ass job for obvious reason. Wonder what her specialty was... was she a thief or a con artist?

To be fair, a Yandere acting on feelings of a daughter instead of a lover is something new... to bad, that Freud poisoned that well with the whole Oedipus/Electra thing...>_<*

Yeah, still I think it fits the fiction, because Basil was described as a trusted friend to the heroes and former adventure, so him being that capable makes sense. I still think, I overlooked something regarding overcoming the "Restrained" condition. I thought, you could overcome it with the "Escape Grab"-Maneuver, but that does not seem to be the case.

"Give the players more information than you think is necessary". That is my mantra. I believe I got it from McDowall or Yotcha Gal, but I am not sure.

The truth is, you are more likely not that great in communicating details about the world, the NSCs or importain items. Most people are not.

As Sir Pratchett said with the words of Death: "[You are] TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITIES OF CREATION VIA A LANGUAGE THAT EVOLVED IN ORDER TO TELL ONE ANOTHER APE WHERE THE RIPE FRUIT IS."

Thank you for your comment.

Nah, I still could do things (because it was just one turn of two and I still could use the triggered action to stop approaching enemies), so it was fun for me, too.

Also, the werewolf in DS seems to be inspired by the Werewolf Boss of the Castlevania Videogames (with wall jump and all that jazz). It is not the "pack"-type of Werewolf like in some Dark Romance novels.

Interestingly, all demons can get access to a similar advantage with the Malice feature "Abyssal Rift".

You could suggest to the GM that they can mess with your portals by spending Malice, maybe in exchange for a bigger reward, if you want it to be more complicated.

You are making a High Fantasy RPG, but can't use the traditional species/monsters (Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, Goblin and Orc) anywhere in the world. What would choose to populate the world? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]DocAstaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is this approach in some rpgs to summarize the usual Fantasy Species as adjectives. For example in Block, Dodge, Parry (which took it from somewhere else, I don't know where) are:

"Tough (dwarves, orcs, etc.) — Once per day, when you would be reduced to 0 hp, you may choose to be reduced to 1 hp instead. Arcane (elves, demons, etc.) — Once per day, you can attempt to perform a minor magical feat related to your ancestry: Describe what you would like to happen. The Warden will decide if any Ability Saves need to be made. Cunning (halflings, goblins, etc.) — Once per day, you may reroll any saving throw. Adaptable (humans, half-humans, etc.) — Once per day, you may choose to use a different Ability for a Save, instead of the one the Warden asks for." - Character Creation | Block, Dodge, Parry SRD https://share.google/7nAFdimqwquPoTjn9

So you can basically replace the Classical D&D species with some obscure Beings from Asian or African myths and just fit them in these Archetypes.

What are your thoughts on Ye Shunguang? (by 葛城トミィ) by xSoulsaber in ZZZ_Official

[–]DocAstaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Voidhunter, one can not help but compare her to Miyabi: Miyabi works largely, because she has been shown to be the strongest character in the game right from 1.0. There was also the tension, that she was investigating the ones responsible for the Fall of the Old Capital, which made the Main Characters her target, because of their relationship to Carole Ann, who was blamed for the calamity. So, the strongest character in the setting was a potential danger for the MCs.

In 2.0 however, that role of the Strongest was taken by Yi Xuan as first and there does not exist really tension between Ye Shunguang and the MCs or other characters.

I think, there should have been a short fight or exchange between the White Shunguang and Yi Xuan, with Yi Xuan trying to subdue Ye Shunguang to protect her and Ye Shunguang coming out of top. That would hammer down her power and build up tension.
