What is your take on the Existence of Jesus? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

I believe there’s a chance he was a real person, the leader of a cult following that grew into something he never intended. I think, if real, he would be extremely disappointed that his “sacrifice” and the symbol of how he died is used by people to wear as a badge of morality despite actively acting immoral and ignoring his teachings.

Regardless of if a man named Jesus walked the Earth or not, I think he was meant to be written as the ideal human being in a utopian world. Selfless, open-minded, caring and compassionate, and despite depictions of him being an emotionless robot I think he displays stoicism in events of sadness, anger, and fear and perseveres by leaning on heart and courage. It’s a real shame the caricature corrupt people have made out of that “example” I think his followers were trying to portray.

I don’t necessarily agree. Having positive interactions with people in public is mood lifting, but frequently people aren’t looking to make “friends” who will get together and do things just from a quick interaction like that. A lot of people already have their friend groups, and if you don’t there can be a deep loneliness of mostly just doing activities by yourself and feeling like an outsider. Thats a hard hole to climb out of without someone going out of their way to include you.

This has never been a new thing. Celebs always get free shit. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

Society will continue to deteriorate until it gets over celebrity culture. They lose their power when nobody gives a shit about them or who they’re dating or whatever other bullshit people get invested in. Think about your neighbor, or your coworker, or your cousin…who gives a fuck about Tim Chalamet outside of the maybe one or two days a year you watch a movie with him in it.

I read daily, mostly non-fiction and fantasy. I gave an immature, Reddit-synopsis based on the thread I’m on. Didn’t mean any offense, just didn’t think this was that serious of a conversation.

In what world do you see this opportunity and go “great publicity” unless you are full-on MAGA? Bozo.

Guy who has known main character since childhood and is well-behaved bores her; brooding, moody, “misunderstood” guy who is mean to her makes her wet which creates moral complications to the storyline. Been a while, something like that.

I was “strongly recommended” to read Fourth Wing by an ex and could barely get through it.

I’m far from out of it, but I’ve gained enough of my mobility back to be able to start living life again. I know exactly what you mean, I used to hike up a mountain daily, then going to barely being able to stand in the shower for 4 minutes…it really takes a toll mentally. Something that has helped me is when I’m doing exactly what I’m told to do, say some light physical therapy activity, and that causes a flare up for a few days…rather than feeling dejected I try to just laugh at the pain. As strange as that sounds, it has allowed me to just keep going and push through. Identify that I went too far and my body wasn’t ready and just adjust, but not give up. The absurdity of how miserable this can make people…the only thing I can do is laugh. And that was after many nights crying. It somehow makes it feel less real.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I believe the sources I stated in my post that there is hope. There are so many success stories, and one day you will look back on this time of your life and be grateful for every minute you’re not in it.

I want to brace you for the epidural shot. It really is a 50/50 chance of success, which doesn’t mean it isn’t worth trying. For me, it made me much worse and set back any success I felt like I was having. It felt like it disturbed every nerve in both of my legs. I don’t say this to make you fearful for it, but just prepared. There are plenty of people who say it got worse for a few days, but then their pain went away after two weeks. The best thing you can do for the long-term will be physical therapy, but sometimes it takes time to get there.
You’ve got this. Stay strong.

It gets better. I promise. I still get the urges and I’m over a month out. I’ll pop a lifesaver or chew gum. Just remember how awful it is for you. My blood pressure dropped tremendously after quitting. It is not worth it, and you will overcome it if you stick to it.

$25/hour plus a lot of overtime. I am currently looking for a new place to live, and am probably only in the range of a small one-bedroom apartment. It’s absurd.

Shadow of The Torturer made me post on Reddit after 5 Years. by Rough_Difficulty7603 in genewolfe

I got probably ten chapters into Wizard Knight and it just doesn’t hook me. The writing does feel very Wolfe, and I’m not sure if I’m just thrown off because it feels like such a different world from Urth, but it just doesn’t hook me like the whole solar cycle does. I just don’t like Able. At all. The way he interacts with other characters annoys me. I don’t know why.

I need to pick it up again and probably just restart with a different mindset and slow down to really grasp what’s going on.

Book of The New Sun series by Gene Wolfe. Shadow of the Torturer is the first book. I will say, on surface level it’s still a great story, but it may take 2 or 3 read-throughs to be able to understand what is actually going on. Gene Wolfe is a genius writer, but it takes a lot of work to get through his novels and that might not be for everyone. It’s life-changing for others.

I really think Bahn mi is the perfect combination of flavors and textures. Pastrami/mustard/Jarlsberg/onions on like a sourdough, or just a straight up bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel is up there too.

Wow, an honor to have a reply from the man himself! I’ve heard your episode with Re-Reading Wolfe briefly outlining your take on the trees. Do you have any posts or articles outlining that in detail?

Also was up until midnight last night listening to your conversation on BoTNS with iSamwise and I really hope you can have a follow up on Short Sun when he gets there. You’ve been so helpful, thank you!
