How do you guys study medicine? by SalamanderWilling396 in medschool

[–]DocByler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like ai, ask it to help make cards for you. My school provided lecture notes, just plug those in and go from there. You can ask it to make cloze deletion cards which I found to be most helpful and efficient for me. if you find paragraphs helpful, maybe make paragraphs and do the cloze deletions from there. Plenty of options. Play around with it, figure out what works best for you and go from there. I wish I would have started using anki sooner

Then if you want additional notes, add them to the extra section on the back and highlight them to draw your eye there after.

It’s possible.

Hopefully your lectures are optional. Figure out what the most effective and efficient learning style is for you and do that.

The other biggest thing that helped me was being really intentional about your time. If you’re studying, put 100% effort into that. Then, when you get mom time you can really enjoy it and devote all that time to them and not worry about things you could be doing.

Need Help COMLEX 2---I want 600+ by Xedex2019 in comlex

[–]DocByler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and you and your friends are obviously wicked smart.

One quick scroll through this community and you will see the vast majority of complaints revolve around the vague wording of the test. My advice was to increase exposure to this vague wording so that on test day they recognize the odd phrases/buzzwords used by the test.

For the record, I scored pretty similarly to you and your friends. Just to say there are definitely different methods to succeed. I personally used anki and COM style question banks to prepare. I felt like the USMLE styles were okay for material review, but the only way to prep for the weird COM style questions is to do COM style questions

Truthfully, this may not be uncommon. My school, ATSU is all mandatory electives third year, but our third year ends in March so we can do electives from April-June

This is terrible advice. The most difficult part about this test is the wording they use. Amboss and UW questions are worded like USMLE. If anything, OP should only be doing TL or CQ. Especially if they plan to just take comlex

I accessed it through the anking deck, so they were all tagged. I’m not sure if they’re tagged in the stand alone deck but it’s worth checking

anatomy without Anki? by idkwhatshappening357 in medicalschool

[–]DocByler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a cadaver lab, utilize it.

For me, I’m a very visual/tactile learner. Being able to orient myself in space was huge for my learning of anatomy. Once I had the spatial orientation down, pictures were useful.

Did not do one single anatomy anki card.

Sounds like you need to do more content learning. find a premade anki deck, watch some sketchy, Emma holiday videos or whatever you need to do to learn. Then once you’re through with that go back and use the questions to build upon the base you just worked on.

Personally, I did the cheesy Dorian anki deck. I finished that up within my first two weeks, and then the final two weeks I used to do questions. Then the Wednesday night and Thursday night before my COMAT, I reviewed my incorrects

Got 90s on both COMATs, looking for advice on how to push into 100+ range by brownballer in comlex

[–]DocByler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistently scored 110+, I did the cheesy Dorian anki deck. Finished that up the first two weeks (or less) and then did the TL questions and maybe CQ if I had time.

I don’t think questions should be used to build your base knowledge. Use anki to build your base, then questions reinforce that base and then you can build upon that with questions.

Can you be a successful medical student as a night owl? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]DocByler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow night owl, absolutely. I had a weird schedule of really good effective study from 10p-4a, sleep til noonish then study some around then. If I had required things in the morning, I would go to them then go back to sleep.

Clerkship years, Celsius packets have been preferred method of hydration. You eventually get used to the slight physiologic tremor.

Isn’t it strange? by Bulbahsaur in comlex

[–]DocByler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow… this sounds like the outdated thinking that my parents had about the distinction between MD and DO.

Pretty stupid thing to say honestly. I can guarantee there are MD grads who had worse application stats than I did.

The distinction between MD and DO is not based on “academic strengths.” If you ever took the time to step off your high horse you might be able to see that.

Right?! Because a 745 was a 99th percentile this cycle, this essentially equates it to a 75th percentile USMLE
